The best alternative depends on what you want to improve: the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 is a current Samsung option, while Google’s Pixel 10 Pro Fold keeps you in Google’s foldable lineup and adds an 8-inch inner display. The older Galaxy Z Fold 7 may be worth considering at a substantial discount; the 2023 OnePlus Open is a value option only if local support and availability are solid.

| Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold | An 8-inch inner screen, Google’s foldable software experience and the durability features highlighted by TechRadar | Google lists an 8-inch inner display and a US starting price of $1,799. | Its price is still flagship-level; TechRadar’s roundup names the Z Fold 7 its best overall foldable, not the Pixel. | Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 | A prior-generation Samsung option if discounted | TechRadar’s guide, updated July 24, 2026, calls it its best overall foldable and reports an 8-inch main screen and 6.5-inch cover screen. | Its US launch price was $1,999.99, and the guide flags the high price and lack of S Pen support. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8: choose Samsung’s current foldable environment
Tom’s Guide reports a 5.5-inch cover screen, 7.6-inch inner display and 201 g weight for the Z Fold 8, with a reported starting price of $1,899. It also lists a 4,800 mAh battery, 45 W wired charging and 20 W wireless charging. These are review-reported specifications and pricing, not a live quote or a manufacturer specification page.

Its appeal is Samsung’s software and multitasking environment in a current foldable. The compromises matter if you are switching from a Pixel: the base model is reported to lack a telephoto camera, and its IP48 rating offers less dust protection than the Pixel 10 Pro Fold’s IP68 rating. An ingress rating is not a promise that a phone is immune to damage. The 5.5-inch cover screen is also shorter than the Z Fold 7’s reported 6.5-inch cover screen; diagonal size alone does not establish which is more comfortable for typing.
Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold: stay with Google and get a large inner display
Google lists an 8-inch OLED inner display with 2076 × 2152 resolution and a 1–120 Hz refresh rate. The product page gives folded dimensions of 6.1 × 3 × 0.4 inches, weight of 9.1 oz and a US starting price of $1,799. These are Google’s published specifications and starting price; actual offers and configurations may differ by market.
#1 Best Overall
- Unfold extraordinary with Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold; with Pixel’s largest screen and Gemini, Google’s most advanced AI, it’s made for multitasking and entertainment[1]
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan[2]; it works with Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers
- Get a head start on syncing your data before it even arrives: After you purchase your new Pixel, look for an email that explains how to transfer your photos, videos, passwords, and more in just a few quick steps[14]
- The gearless, high-strength hinge makes it durable enough to handle about 10 years of folding[3]; plus, Pixel 10 Pro Fold is built with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and has an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance[4]
- The brighter-than-ever 8-inch Super Actua Flex display is Pixel’s largest screen yet[12]; and you can use Split Screen to plan a trip, drag and drop images, and open multiple apps at once[5]
TechRadar’s 2026 roundup calls the Pixel 10 Pro Fold its most durable foldable selection, citing IP68 protection, magnetic charging, a larger battery and a 5× telephoto camera. That is a priority-based recommendation, not a claim that it wins every category: the same roundup names the Galaxy Z Fold 7 its best overall pick.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7: consider it only at the right price
TechRadar’s guide, updated July 24, 2026, reports an 8-inch main display, 6.5-inch cover display, 200 MP main camera, Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chipset and 12 or 16 GB of RAM. It gives a US launch starting price of $1,999.99. The guide highlights a thin, light design and camera hardware, but notes the high price and lack of S Pen support.

A newer Z Fold 8 review is available, so treat the Z Fold 7 as a previous-generation choice rather than Samsung’s newest model. Its case depends on current stock and a sale price that makes the older generation worthwhile.

TechRadar describes the OnePlus Open as a 2023-era phone with 7.82-inch and 6.31-inch displays that may cost less than newer flagship foldables. The same guide flags its age, durability, lack of stylus support and fewer features than Samsung. Consider it only after checking local availability, software support, warranty coverage and repair options; a low price is less compelling if service is difficult to obtain.

Decide what matters when the phone is closed
Cover-screen diagonal is only one part of comfort. Width, aspect ratio and keyboard space affect typing, and the available reported measurements do not establish which model feels best in hand. If possible, try each phone closed before choosing.
Compare the inner screen and portability
The Pixel 10 Pro Fold has an 8-inch inner display on Google’s specification page. TechRadar reports 8 inches for the Z Fold 7, while Tom’s Guide reports 7.6 inches for the Z Fold 8. These figures come from different sources; check the exact model specifications when comparing. For carry comfort, Google lists the Pixel 10 Pro Fold at 9.1 oz, while Tom’s Guide reports 201 g for the Z Fold 8. Android Authority’s earlier comparison gives 215 g for the Z Fold 7 and describes its folded profile as thinner. Android Authority

Choose cameras by lens, not headline megapixels
If zoom photography matters, check whether the exact model has a telephoto lens and what optical reach it offers. TechRadar cites a 5× telephoto camera on the Pixel 10 Pro Fold; Tom’s Guide says the base Z Fold 8 has no telephoto camera. The Z Fold 7’s reported 200 MP main camera is a resolution figure, not by itself a verdict on camera quality.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsUnderstand the protection rating
TechRadar reports IP68 for the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, while Tom’s Guide reports IP48 for the Z Fold 8. These ratings describe ingress protection, not immunity to drops, hinge damage or every dust and water exposure. Consider the rating as one factor alongside warranty and repair access.
Check the real local cost and support
The listed prices are dated US starting-price references, not guaranteed current offers: Google lists $1,799 for the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, Tom’s Guide reports $1,899 for the Z Fold 8, and TechRadar records the Z Fold 7’s $1,999.99 US launch price. Verify the exact regional model, carrier compatibility, trade-in terms, warranty, repair access and current sale price before buying. For the OnePlus Open, local availability and support are especially important because it is an older model.
