For most Windows 11 users looking beyond Edge, Firefox is a strong starting point for tab organization and an independent browser option. Choose Brave for built-in ad and tracker blocking, Chrome for Google account continuity and Chrome Web Store extensions, Vivaldi for customization, or Opera for bundled conveniences such as Flow and an in-browser VPN feature. There is no universal winner: the right choice depends on what you want from a browser.
Which browsers are worth considering?
| Browser | Best fit | Documented features |
|---|---|---|
| Firefox | Tab organization and an alternative to the major browser ecosystems | Vertical tabs, tab groups, sidebar access and PDF editing |
| Brave | Built-in ad and tracker blocking | Brave says its browser blocks ads and trackers |
| Chrome | Google services and Chrome Web Store extensions | Account-linked access to bookmarks and saved passwords, autofill, Password Manager, Safe Browsing and Safety Check |
| Vivaldi | Customization | Extensive settings and Windows downloads for Intel/AMD 64-bit and ARM64 |
| Opera | Bundled features and package choice | Opera promotes an ad blocker, free in-browser VPN feature and Flow file sharing; Windows downloads include 64-bit, 32-bit and ARM packages |
How to choose by priority
Choose Firefox for organizing busy browsing sessions
Mozilla’s Windows page highlights vertical tabs, tab groups, sidebar access and PDF editing. These tools may suit people who keep many pages open or want browser features beyond basic tab-and-window navigation. Mozilla also describes Firefox as built to put users in control; that is the company’s positioning, not an independent audit. See Firefox for Windows.

Choose Brave if built-in blocking matters most
Brave says it blocks ads and trackers and lists Windows 10 or later as a system requirement, which includes Windows 11. Treat blocking as a documented browser feature, not proof of a blanket privacy or speed advantage. Check Brave’s download page.
Choose Chrome if you rely on Google services
Google lists Password Manager, Safe Browsing, Safety Check, autofill and extensions among Chrome’s features. When signed in, users can access bookmarks and saved passwords across devices. Chrome Web Store extension access and Google account continuity make it a natural fit for existing Google users, but those features do not establish that Chrome is the fastest or safest browser. See Google Chrome.

- 1.1 GHz (boost up to 2.4GHz) Intel Celeron N5030 Quad-Core
Choose Vivaldi for extensive customization
Vivaldi offers many browser options and downloads for Intel/AMD 64-bit and ARM64 Windows systems. Its claims about privacy defaults are Vivaldi’s own positioning rather than a comparative independent assessment. Check Vivaldi’s Windows downloads.
Choose Opera for bundled conveniences
Opera’s Windows page lists packages for 64-bit, 32-bit and ARM systems and promotes an ad blocker, free VPN feature and Flow file sharing. Its browser VPN feature should not be confused with a full-device VPN service. See Opera’s download options.

Check Windows 11 S mode before installing
Windows 11 in S mode only allows apps from Microsoft Store and keeps Edge as the default browser. Microsoft says that installing a browser unavailable through the Store and choosing another default requires switching out of S mode. The switch is free but permanent: it cannot be reversed. Check whether the PC is in S mode before following a browser’s download instructions. Microsoft’s S mode guidance.
What this comparison can—and cannot—tell you
The feature distinctions above come from browser makers’ own product and download pages. They can help match a browser to your workflow, but they are not independent comparative tests. No comparable Windows desktop benchmark is established here for speed, memory use, battery consumption or privacy performance, so this list does not rank a fastest or most private browser. For those priorities, look for recent tests that use the same device, browser versions and conditions.
