There is no single best AI photo editor for every iPhone and Android user. Choose Lightroom for photography controls, Photoshop mobile for layered and generative edits, Canva for images headed into designs, or Google Photos for convenient edits in your photo library. The right choice depends on the job, your phone, and which tools are included in the app’s current free or paid plan. The apps below are a task-based shortlist, not a verified ranking; feature and plan information was checked in October 2026.
How to choose an AI photo editor for your phone
First decide what you want to make. A photo editor may focus on exposure and color, use generative AI to remove or add content, retouch portraits, or turn a picture into a designed social post. Those are different jobs, so a tool that excels at one may not be the best fit for another.

- For photography adjustments: prioritize control over light, color, and a consistent editing workflow.
- For removing or adding content: look for object removal, background tools, or generative fill, and check whether they are paid or limited.
- For portraits and quick fixes: choose a streamlined editor with retouching and one-tap adjustments.
- For social content: consider whether you need a finished design, text, or a generated background as well as an edited photograph.
Also check the exact iOS or Android listing before installing. Feature parity is not guaranteed, and some tools depend on phone model, operating-system version, region, or plan.

Best options by editing task
Adobe Lightroom: best for a photography workflow
Lightroom mobile is available for iOS and Android. Adobe says its free version includes presets and basic editing, while Premium adds tools such as Generative Remove, Lens Blur, and Adaptive Presets. Adobe also describes syncing across devices in the Lightroom ecosystem, which can suit someone who edits on a phone and continues elsewhere. Check the current plan details before relying on a specific tool: “free” does not include every feature. See Adobe Lightroom mobile.
#1 Best Overall
- Vibrant 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display with OLED technology. Action mode for smooth, steady, handheld videos.
Adobe Photoshop mobile: best for generative edits and compositing
Adobe’s feature comparison, last updated April 22, 2026, lists Generative Fill and Generative Expand on both iPhone and Android. It lists Curves and Light and Color on iPhone but not Android. That makes Photoshop mobile a strong candidate for generative and layered work, but not a promise of identical controls on both platforms. Check Adobe’s comparison for the current differences before choosing it for a platform-specific workflow. Compare Photoshop features on iPhone and Android.
Adobe Photoshop Express: best for quick touch-ups and collages
Photoshop Express is the more streamlined option for fast edits. Adobe describes one-tap filters, layering, and AI-powered retouching; its Google Play listing also describes collage creation, an AI image generator, and background erasing. These descriptions do not establish that every feature appears in both app versions or is available without limits, so check the listing for your phone. Read Adobe’s Photoshop Express overview and check its Google Play listing.

- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
Google Photos: best for quick library edits
Google Photos puts editing tools alongside the images you already keep in the app. Google’s Android help describes Magic Eraser, AI Enhance, and other editing options. Many tools require Android 8.0 or later and at least 3 GB of RAM; some require 4 GB or 6 GB, and some are Pixel-only. Those are not universal requirements for every feature: check the specific tool and your phone’s eligibility in Google’s help. Review Google Photos editing features and requirements.
Canva: best when the result is a designed post
Canva is useful when the goal extends beyond correcting a photo. Its AI photo editor describes prompt-driven Magic Edit, generated backgrounds, object removal, and background removal, alongside design work. Canva offers a free tier, but that alone does not establish which individual AI capabilities are free in every region or app version. Check access inside the app before building a workflow around a particular feature. See Canva’s AI photo editor.

Picsart: best for creative effects
Picsart lists object removal, background generation and removal, retouching, effects, enhancement, and color correction. That range makes it a candidate for creative and social-oriented edits. The feature list is not an independent comparison or a guarantee that every tool has the same access terms on iPhone and Android; confirm what your app version offers. See Picsart’s AI photo editor.
Snapseed: best as a manual-first editor
Snapseed is worth considering if you want detailed manual adjustments more than prompt-based generation. Google Play identifies the app, while a 2026 editorial roundup characterizes it as a free manual editor with detailed controls. The available information does not establish a current AI feature set, so treat it as a manual-first option rather than choosing it for a specific AI edit. Confirm that the current listing is available for your device; the Google Play link only covers Android. View Snapseed on Google Play.

Can you remove people or objects on a phone?
Yes, several apps in this shortlist describe object-removal or generative editing tools: Google Photos lists Magic Eraser, Canva describes object removal, and Picsart lists object removal. Lightroom Premium includes Generative Remove, while Photoshop mobile lists Generative Fill on iPhone and Android. A feature’s presence does not guarantee the same result on every image, or that it is free, available on every device, or identical across platforms. Check the specific app’s current feature access before starting an edit.

Which app is free, and what may cost extra?
“Free app” and “all features free” are not the same thing. Adobe explicitly identifies Lightroom’s basic editing and presets as free, with some named tools in Premium. Canva describes a free tier but the available information does not establish the access terms for each AI tool. For the other apps in this guide, the current evidence does not settle the cost or limits of every feature. Before committing, check the app-store listing and the in-app plan or credit details for your region; AI availability can change.

What to check before installing
- Confirm the platform listing. Search for the app in your iPhone’s App Store or Android’s Google Play and verify the publisher and supported device.
- Check the feature, not just the app name. Confirm that the exact edit you need—such as object removal, generative fill, or background creation—is currently offered on your platform.
- Check eligibility and access. Look for device, operating-system, region, subscription, and credit limits. For Google Photos on Android, consult Google’s per-feature requirements.
- Try a representative photo. Use a copy or a nonessential image to assess whether the result suits your purpose before editing important originals.
App-store listings and product pages can change. Availability and plan details here were checked in October 2026; verify the current listing and your device’s eligibility before installing or paying.
