The right AI customer service agent depends less on a universal “best” and more on the support system you already use, the work you want automated, and how each vendor bills. Zendesk is a natural first fit for teams already using Zendesk; Intercom Fin combines knowledge-based support with customer actions; Freshworks Freddy AI spans customer automation, agent assistance, and insights; Salesforce Agentforce targets Salesforce-connected workflows; and Ada offers an enterprise customer-experience platform across voice, messaging, and email.
This guide compares those five products on their stated capabilities and pricing models. Vendor descriptions and prices are not independent performance tests, and the available information does not establish a universal winner. Product pages and commercial terms can change; the current-page descriptions below reflect information accessed October 4, 2026.

AI customer service agents compared
The table summarizes vendor-described capabilities and the pricing figures published in Intercom’s 2026 comparison. A resolution, outcome, conversation, and session are different billing events; prices in those units are not directly comparable. Pricing figures are vendor-published and should be confirmed with the supplier before purchase.

The pricing comparison is published by Intercom, not an independent pricing study. Its scenario calculations and savings examples are vendor-modeled, not buyer results. Zendesk’s July 23, 2026 “12 top AI agents of 2026” page is also vendor content; its product descriptions are useful for orientation, but its performance claims and “best for” labels are not independent comparative findings.
#1 Best Overall
How to choose an AI agent for a support team
Start with the intended work, not a headline automation percentage. A system that answers from help-center content is not equivalent to one that can change an order, issue a refund, or update a case. The latter needs access to the relevant systems, explicit permissions, and a safe way to handle exceptions.
1. Match the product to your support stack
List the help desk, CRM, knowledge sources, and customer records the agent must use. Zendesk describes its AI layer within its support suite. Intercom describes Fin and Helpdesk as sharing records, knowledge, and an inbox, while also positioning Fin for use with an existing help desk. Salesforce’s examples are relevant when the service workflow depends on Salesforce context. For each configuration, identify required licenses, data access, and implementation work rather than assuming these are included.
2. Define what the agent may do
Separate three levels of work: answering from approved support content; assisting a human agent with suggestions, summaries, or translation; and taking actions in connected systems. Freshworks describes examples such as processing refunds and changing subscription plans, while Salesforce describes order management and case resolution. These are vendor examples, not a guarantee that every action is available in every plan or integration. Specify the exact action, data it can read or change, and cases that must go to a person.

3. Confirm channels, languages, and handoff behavior
Ask which channels are included in the configuration being quoted: web, messaging, email, or voice. Do not infer channel coverage from another product tier or a broad platform claim. Intercom’s product page states 45-plus languages; Zendesk’s July 2026 comparison lists 80-plus. These are vendor-stated availability figures, not a measure of answer quality in each language. Test the languages and customer journeys your team actually supports.
In a demonstration, follow a conversation from the first automated response through a failed answer and human handoff. Check whether the human receives the conversation history, customer context, attempted actions, and reason for escalation. Ask which actions need approval and how supervisors review incorrect answers or actions.

4. Compare the whole bill at your expected volume
Model a representative month using the billing event in each quote. Include successfully resolved issues, unresolved conversations, repeat contacts, multi-step actions, human-agent seats, required help-desk or CRM licenses, platform fees, and overages. A conversation fee can apply even when the issue is not resolved; session costs may recur across one customer issue; action-based charges can vary with workflow complexity; and outcome charges depend on the supplier’s definition of a billable success. Compare monthly and annual totals for the same workload, not just the headline rate.
5. Treat performance claims as claims, not forecasts
Vendor pages may display resolution percentages, testimonials, or modeled savings. Intercom’s current product page displays a 76% average resolution rate, and Ada’s page displays an 84% automated resolution rate. The reviewed pages do not establish sufficiently clear, comparable methodology for treating those figures as cross-vendor benchmarks. Before using a percentage in a business case, ask for its definition, time period, denominator, exclusions, and measurement method, plus customer examples that resemble your own support operation.

What it does
Zendesk describes AI capabilities for administrators, human agents, and customer-facing AI agents. Its Suite includes generative search, quick answers, ticket translations, suggested macros, writing help, article and ticket summaries, and intelligent triage. Zendesk says more robust Copilot assistance is separately purchasable, so check entitlement for the exact plan and region rather than treating every capability as included.
Zendesk’s July 2026 comparison also lists an AI-agent builder, hybrid flows, integrations and actions, reasoning controls, QA, analytics, omnichannel support, and 80-plus languages. Those are vendor-described capabilities; confirm which are available in your intended package and how they work with your workflow.
Pricing and trade-offs
Intercom’s 2026 comparison lists Zendesk AI at approximately $1.20–$1.50 per verified resolution on committed volume and about $2 pay-as-you-go, alongside platform and seat costs. These figures are vendor-published comparison values, not a complete quote; confirm the resolution definition, commitment, and plan-specific costs with Zendesk. This option is most straightforward to evaluate when your agents and support data already live in Zendesk. Teams on another help desk should include migration or integration effort in the comparison.

2. Intercom Fin: knowledge answers plus customer actions
What it does
Intercom says Fin uses company knowledge, follows policies and procedures, takes actions on customers’ behalf, and provides insights into missing knowledge and performance. The current product page states that Fin operates in 45-plus languages. Intercom presents Fin and Intercom Helpdesk as separate products sharing records, knowledge, and the inbox; it also says Fin can be used with an existing help desk.
Pricing and trade-offs
The current product page and Intercom’s 2026 comparison show $0.99 per outcome. That is a vendor-stated price, and billable outcome definitions and contract terms should be confirmed. It is not the full cost if a team also needs Intercom Helpdesk, seats, or other platform components. Evaluate the agent charge separately from help-desk and seat costs, and test how the outcome rule applies to escalations, repeat contacts, and partially completed requests.
3. Freshworks Freddy AI: agents, copilot, and insights
What it does
Freshworks groups Freddy AI into agents, copilot assistance, and insights. Its product page describes prebuilt agents deployable across chat, messaging apps, and email, including tasks such as updating records, processing refunds, and changing subscription plans. Copilot capabilities include suggested responses, summaries, and translation; Insights is described as trend and performance analysis.
These features make Freddy worth evaluating when a team wants both customer automation and assistance for human agents in a Freshworks workflow. Ask the vendor to demonstrate the specific knowledge sources, connected systems, actions, escalation route, and plan entitlements relevant to your use case. Freshworks product examples do not establish that every integration or action is available in every configuration.
Pricing and trade-offs
Intercom’s 2026 comparison lists Freddy AI at $0.10 per session. A session is not the same unit as an outcome, resolution, or conversation, and the session rule determines how repeat activity is charged. The comparison also notes platform or seat costs. Have the vendor price a sample month that includes both completed and escalated requests.

4. Salesforce Agentforce: for Salesforce-connected service workflows
What it does
Salesforce describes Agentforce as a 24/7 agent platform used across web, phone, and apps. Customer-service examples include answering questions, resolving cases, managing orders, and troubleshooting. The same page includes contact-center examples such as routing incoming calls and retrieving customer history. These examples make it relevant to teams assessing service workflows connected to Salesforce, but they do not specify the context, licenses, data permissions, or implementation effort needed for a particular deployment.
Pricing and trade-offs
Intercom’s 2026 comparison lists $2 per conversation or Flex Credits/action-based charging, and notes that platform fees also matter. The conversation and action models are different ways to bill, not directly comparable units. Ask Salesforce to model the same representative mix of simple questions and multi-step actions under the proposed configuration, including platform costs and required licenses.
5. Ada: enterprise customer experience across channels
What it does
Ada presents an enterprise customer-experience platform with voice, messaging, and email products. Its product materials also describe integrations, measurement and testing, safety features, and playbooks for complex procedures. Ada highlights use cases in ecommerce, financial services, gaming, insurance, SaaS, and travel, making it a candidate for organizations assessing enterprise or industry-specific support deployments.
Pricing and trade-offs
Intercom’s 2026 comparison lists Ada as custom-priced, so the available figure does not support a public unit-price comparison. Ada’s current page displays an 84% automated resolution rate, but does not provide a sufficiently clear publication date or comparison methodology in the reviewed material. Treat it as Ada’s own claim, not a forecast or a comparable performance result; request case-level definitions, time periods, denominators, and measurement methods.
What to put in an AI-agent evaluation
Use the same support scenarios with each vendor so the demonstration reveals differences in workflow rather than differences in the demo script. Include routine questions, a policy exception, an ambiguous request, a multi-step account change, and a case that should be escalated.
Best Value
- Knowledge: Can the agent identify the approved answer source, follow policy constraints, and respond appropriately when the content is missing or conflicting?
- Actions: Which connected records can it read or change? What permissions and approvals are required, and what happens if an action fails partway through?
- Handoff: What customer and conversation context reaches the human, and can the human see what the agent already tried?
- Operations: What tools are available to inspect answer quality, errors, escalations, and usage over time?
- Commercial terms: What event is billable, how are repeats handled, and which platform, seat, setup, or usage charges sit outside the quoted rate?
Ask each supplier to distinguish features demonstrated in the proposed package from features shown only in broader product materials. Published case studies and testimonials can help identify questions to ask, but they are not controlled comparisons of products operating under identical conditions.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between an AI customer service agent and an agent copilot?
A customer-facing agent responds to customers and may take actions in connected systems. A copilot helps a human support agent, for example with suggested replies, summaries, or translation. Some platforms offer both, but their availability and plan requirements differ.
Why can’t I compare the listed AI prices by their dollar amount alone?
The vendors use different billing events: outcome or verified resolution, conversation, session, and action or credit. A quote also may exclude seats, help-desk or CRM licenses, platform fees, or other usage charges. Compare the estimated total for the same workload and contract period.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDo the published resolution percentages predict what my team will achieve?
No. Intercom’s 76% and Ada’s 84% figures are vendor-published claims, and the reviewed pages do not establish a sufficiently clear, comparable methodology. They should not be treated as independent forecasts for another team.
What should a support team test before allowing an AI agent to take account actions?
Test the exact action and connected record, the permissions required, the behavior when information is missing or the action fails, and the escalation path. Confirm whether a human approval is required and what context is preserved when a request is handed off.
