Best 1440p Gaming Monitors: Match Speed and Screen to Your Setup

Choose a 1440p gaming monitor by matching refresh rate, panel type, room lighting, and input support to your PC or console. These seven picks span OLED, Mini LED, and IPS.

The best 1440p gaming monitor depends on what your PC or console can drive, the games you play, and how bright your room is. For maximum speed with an OLED image, RTINGS’ current top tested pick is the ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG27AQWP-W, which reaches 540Hz at native 1440p. More practical alternatives include a 280Hz OLED, a 180Hz Mini LED, and lower-cost IPS displays, each with different trade-offs.

The recommendations below reflect RTINGS’ 2026 US-oriented guide and model reviews; rankings, local availability, and value can vary by market and street price. RTINGS says it buys and tests more than 30 monitors annually, without cherry-picked units or samples. Read its 1440p gaming monitor guide.

How to choose a 1440p gaming monitor

1440p (2560 × 1440) sits between 1080p and 4K: it delivers more image detail than 1080p without the same graphics-processing demand as 4K. A high refresh rate can make motion smoother, but it is most useful when your system can produce frame rates that take advantage of it. Check the refresh rate at the resolution you intend to play—not a headline maximum that applies only in another mode.

  • Match refresh rate to your games and hardware. Competitive games and a powerful PC can make very high refresh rates more useful; demanding single-player games may not run at those frame rates.
  • Consider the room. Glossy OLED coatings can show strong reflections. Some OLED models also show raised blacks in bright conditions, while a matte screen may be easier to use in a brighter room.
  • Choose image characteristics deliberately. OLED offers fast motion and strong dark-scene contrast, while Mini LED local dimming can create deep blacks beside bright highlights. Mini LED can still show haloing and slower dark-object motion.
  • Check the actual inputs and signal support. Resolution alone does not confirm a monitor can accept the refresh rate or console signal you want. Verify HDMI and DisplayPort bandwidth, VRR support, and the console’s supported output.
  • Check physical fit. These recommendations are 27-inch models. Confirm desk depth, stand adjustment needs, and whether the monitor’s ports match your setup.

LG 27GX700A-B 280Hz Brighter-room OLED option VRR flicker, dark-scene banding, and overbrightened content at high brightness.
HyperX OMEN OLED 27q 240Hz Lower-cost OLED alternative Dimmer image and raised blacks in bright conditions.

Premium speed: ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG27AQWP-W

RTINGS names this its best tested 1440p gaming monitor. Its native 2560 × 1440 mode runs at 540Hz; dual mode reaches up to 720Hz only at 720p. It supports common VRR formats and HDMI and DisplayPort 2.1 bandwidth, making it the most compelling shortlist choice for a buyer prioritizing very high native-resolution refresh and OLED motion. The glossy coating can create mirror-like reflections, so account for windows and lights behind you. See RTINGS’ PG27AQWP-W review.

Upper-midrange speed: ASUS ROG Strix OLED XG27ACDNG

This 27-inch QD-OLED runs at 360Hz at 1440p. RTINGS notes vivid color and fast motion, but black levels can look purple in a bright room. It is a strong alternative if you want a high-refresh OLED but do not need the top pick’s 540Hz native mode. See RTINGS’ XG27ACDNG review.

Acer Nitro 27in QHD 2560x1440 IPS 180Hz Gaming Monitor KG271U N3bmiipx
  • Quality Visuals: The KG271U 27" IPS monitor with 2560 x 1440 QHD resolution in a 16:9 aspect ratio presents stunning, high-quality images with excellent detail. The zero-frame design does away with the thick frames found on conventional monitors freeing up precious screen space.
  • AMD FreeSync Technology: Say “goodbye” to stuttering and tearing. With AMD FreeSync, the monitor’s frames are synced with the graphics card’s frames, which eliminates screen tearing and provide the smoothest gaming experience.
  • Up to 180Hz: The 180Hz refresh rate speeds up the frames per second to deliver an ultra-smooth 2D motion scene. With a rapid refresh rate of up to 180Hz, Acer Gaming Monitors shorten the time it takes for frame rendering, lower input lag and provide gamers an excellent in-game experience.
  • Responsive!!: Up to 0.5ms GTG (Gray to Gray) response time enhanced gamers’ in-game experience. No matter the fast-moving action or any dramatic transitions will be all rendered smoothly without the annoying effects of smearing or ghosting with KG271U Gaming Monitor.
  • New Depths of Color Accuracy: is monitor is ideal for color-critical projects producing accurate colors, supporting DCI-P3 95%. An amazing monitor for graphic designers, photographers, and film editors.

Brighter-room OLED: LG 27GX700A-B

The 27-inch LG runs at 280Hz and has a matte coating, HDMI 2.1, a USB hub, G-SYNC Compatibility, and FreeSync Premium Pro. Its brighter performance and matte surface can suit a room where reflections are a concern. The review also reports distracting VRR flicker, visible vertical banding in dark content, and a tendency to prioritize brightness over image accuracy at high brightness settings. See RTINGS’ 27GX700A-B review.

Lower-cost OLED: HyperX OMEN OLED 27q

This 27-inch, 240Hz QD-OLED offers a glossy coating and good text clarity, according to RTINGS. It is dimmer and less vivid than brighter alternatives, and its black levels rise in bright conditions, making a darker room a better fit. Consider it when OLED is appealing but 360Hz or higher is not a priority. See RTINGS’ OMEN OLED 27q review.

Budget Mini LED: AOC Q27G3XMN

This 27-inch VA display combines 1440p, 180Hz, and Mini LED local dimming. RTINGS highlights good local dimming and HDR brightness for its class: bright highlights can sit against deep blacks. The compromise is slower response and dark-object smearing versus OLED, with some haloing around bright objects. It offers a different route to HDR than OLED rather than a universally better picture. See RTINGS’ Q27G3XMN review.

Basic IPS alternatives: Dell Alienware AW2725DM and LG 27G610A-B

RTINGS lists the 27-inch, 180Hz Dell Alienware AW2725DM as an acceptable basic gaming option, but its HDR behavior is weak and it has less picture-quality capability than the AOC Mini LED. The 27-inch LG 27G610A-B offers 200Hz IPS with FreeSync VRR and G-SYNC Compatibility. Its review notes low contrast and washed-out HDR colors; it uses HDMI 2.0 rather than HDMI 2.1. These models are worth considering when straightforward gaming performance matters more than OLED contrast or Mini LED HDR, but check current prices against the alternatives.

Which monitor makes sense for a console?

Check the console signal the display accepts, not just the panel’s 1440p resolution or maximum refresh number. The LG 27G610A-B review says it supports up to 1440p at 120Hz for PS5 or Xbox Series X|S despite lacking HDMI 2.1. The LG 27GX700A-B has HDMI 2.1 bandwidth that supports most common console signals. For either monitor, confirm the exact input, console output setting, and VRR behavior you plan to use. See RTINGS’ 27G610A-B review.

Bottom line by gaming setup

  • High-end PC, competitive games, and controlled lighting: the ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG27AQWP-W is the speed-first choice, provided you can use high frame rates and manage glossy-screen reflections.
  • Fast OLED without targeting 540Hz: consider the ASUS ROG Strix OLED XG27ACDNG, keeping its bright-room black-level behavior in mind.
  • Brighter room or console connections: the matte LG 27GX700A-B has useful HDMI 2.1 bandwidth, but its review caveats around flicker and dark scenes matter.
  • OLED on a tighter budget: the HyperX OMEN OLED 27q is better suited to darker rooms.
  • HDR brightness without OLED: the AOC Q27G3XMN brings Mini LED local dimming, with smearing and haloing as trade-offs.
  • Basic IPS gaming: the Dell or LG IPS options may fit simpler needs, but neither matches the AOC’s local-dimming HDR capability.
