Check permissions and your connection before logging out or reinstalling. Missing the two-minute notification does not automatically stop you from posting; BeReal says you can post late, and friends will see that it was late.
Identify where BeReal is failing
“Not posting” can mean different things, and the first fix depends on the symptom:
- The camera will not open, or appears black, blurred, or frozen: check camera access and whether another app is using the camera.
- You can take the photo, but it stays on “posting” or “uploading”: check the connection, then retry.
- The app freezes, shows an error, or returns to the feed without a post: reopen BeReal, update it, and check whether other app functions are also failing.
- Your friends’ posts are missing: you may need to publish your own BeReal first.
- You did not receive the notification: open BeReal directly; no alert does not necessarily mean you have missed your chance to post.
Try the least disruptive checks first: confirm the connection, check permissions, close and reopen BeReal, restart the phone, and update the app. Save logging out or reinstalling for later, since either can require you to sign in again.
Can you post after the two-minute timer?
Yes. BeReal’s Time to BeReal guidance says you can still take and publish your daily post after the two-minute window; friends will be told it was late. The timer is not a cutoff that automatically makes posting impossible.

Open BeReal and look for the option to start the day’s post. You can retake the photo before publishing. If a post is failing during capture or upload, treat that as a technical problem rather than assuming the timer caused it. If a new daily notification has arrived since the failed attempt, the available recovery may differ; the help page does not establish that every failed post can be recovered across a new daily cycle.
If BeReal’s camera is black, blurred, or frozen
Check camera and related permissions
BeReal needs camera access to capture its front-and-back-camera post. Its privacy policy also describes camera and photo-library access as necessary for taking, uploading, and sharing photos, though that policy covers an earlier period and does not establish today’s exact menu labels. Microphone access may be requested for features in the current app version; notifications affect the alert, not whether you can open BeReal and try to post.
- iPhone: Try Settings → Apps → BeReal, then check Camera and, if relevant, Microphone, Photos, and Notifications. Depending on iOS version, permissions may instead appear under Settings → Privacy & Security or Settings → Notifications. Search Settings for “BeReal” if the labels differ.
- Android: A typical route is Settings → Apps → BeReal → Permissions. Allow Camera and any relevant Microphone or Photos and videos access. Check notifications separately in BeReal’s app settings. Menu names vary by Android version and manufacturer.

Rule out a camera conflict or phone-level fault
- Close video-call, scanning, social, or camera apps that might be using the camera.
- Force-close BeReal and open it again.
- Test the phone’s native Camera app. If it fails there too, the issue may be with the phone rather than BeReal.
- Restart the phone and install any available BeReal update.
- If the native camera works but BeReal still cannot open its camera, contact BeReal support rather than repeatedly reinstalling.
If BeReal is stuck on “posting” or “uploading”
A captured photo that never finishes uploading points to a different problem from a camera that never opens. Possible causes include an interrupted connection, an app-session problem, image processing, or a temporary service issue; the symptom alone does not identify which one. Do not repeatedly tap the post control, since that will not resolve the underlying connection or app state.

- Check whether another app or website can load.
- Switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data, or from mobile data to Wi-Fi. Move somewhere with a stronger signal if needed.
- Close and reopen BeReal, then retry once the connection is stable.
- If the feed or other parts of the app are also slow or stale, wait briefly and try again; a temporary service problem is possible, but not confirmed by a single failed upload.
- Update BeReal. If it still fails, collect the details listed under contacting support.
When the post appears to complete but the feed remains stale, the issue may be synchronization rather than capture. Reopen the app and check the post status before assuming it failed.
If the daily BeReal notification is missing
BeReal says its daily notification arrives at a random time and is sent to users in the same time zone at the same time; the company says it does not know in advance when it will be sent. A missing alert is therefore not proof that you cannot post. Open BeReal directly and look for the posting option.

- Allow BeReal notifications in your phone’s settings.
- Check whether Focus, Do Not Disturb, notification summaries, or Android battery and background restrictions are suppressing alerts.
- Check any notification controls within BeReal and make sure the phone has an internet connection.
- Update the app if alerts have stopped arriving.
Notification permission controls alerts; it is distinct from the camera and media permissions used in the posting flow.
If you cannot see your friends’ posts
Missing friends’ posts do not necessarily mean your own upload failed. BeReal’s official guidance says users may not see friends’ BeReal posts or the Friends of Friends feed until they have posted their own BeReal.
- Confirm that today’s post was actually published, rather than left on an upload screen.
- Close and reopen BeReal and check the connection.
- Consider whether those friends have posted yet. If they have and your feed is still missing, the app may be delayed or having a loading problem.
Could BeReal be down?
A single failed upload does not establish an outage. Look for several problems happening together—such as uploads failing, feeds staying stale, login trouble, and loading screens—and ask a friend whether they are seeing the same issue. Try both Wi-Fi and mobile data; if the problem follows the app across connections or affects multiple people, a service-side problem becomes more plausible.

BeReal’s Help Center and Troubleshooting section provide support routes, but the inspected pages do not provide a public authoritative live-status indicator. Wait and retry if multiple app functions are failing. Community posts can illustrate symptoms, not confirm the cause or scope of an outage; for example, users reported loading, upload, and login trouble in an August 2026 Reddit discussion.
Log out or reinstall only after safer checks
Logging out or reinstalling can turn a posting issue into an account-access problem. Before either step, make sure you know the sign-in method linked to the account, can receive any verification code, and can identify the correct account. Reinstalling should be a last resort, not the first troubleshooting step. If you are considering clearing app data, note that its effect can vary by device; it is not a universal BeReal fix.
Do not change your phone’s time zone to try to force a new posting window. BeReal has a Troubleshooting section that addresses time-zone changes, and manually altering the setting can make the daily cycle harder to interpret.
Contact BeReal support
If the camera works in other apps but not BeReal, or uploads keep failing after the checks above, use the BeReal Help Center and its Contact us route. Include enough detail to distinguish a camera, network, account, or service problem:
- Username and phone model
- iPhone or Android version and BeReal app version
- Date and approximate time of the failure
- Whether you were on Wi-Fi or mobile data
- What happened: black camera, frozen screen, upload stuck, exact error, or app crash
- Steps already tried, plus a screenshot or screen recording if available
If a streak was affected, explain that to support rather than assuming it can or cannot be restored; BeReal’s Troubleshooting section includes guidance for streak loss caused by a bug.
