Adjust the projector in the right order
Identify your projector model and the screen’s aspect ratio before following menu instructions. BenQ features, menu names, and adjustment ranges differ by model; for example, lens shift is available only on some models and its range is model-specific. See BenQ’s lens-shift guidance.

Match the source to the screen
Set the connected computer or video player to an active resolution with the same aspect ratio as the screen. If the image remains incorrectly sized, check the source’s output settings rather than relying only on the projector’s image menu. BenQ also advises checking that the desktop and active signal refresh-rate modes match in its screen-fit guidance.

Position the projector as squarely as possible
Align the projector so the image is as perpendicular to the screen as the installation allows. Before using digital correction, leave enough projected image to cover or extend beyond all four screen corners. BenQ notes that a more off-center placement needs more image buffer.

Set image size with optical zoom
If your model has optical zoom, use it to make the image the right size. A test pattern makes the screen edges easier to see; on the W4100i, BenQ’s quick-start guide places this under Advanced Menu > Installation > Test Pattern. The guide covers that model specifically: W4100i Quick Start Guide.

Position the image with lens shift, if available
Use lens shift to move the image without tilting the projector, if your model supports it. The available movement is limited, varies by model, and substantial movement in one direction can affect the remaining range in another. Check your model’s specifications before planning a placement.

Refocus after size or placement changes
Focus the image after setup, moving the projector, or changing zoom. BenQ’s AK700ST manual specifically calls for refocusing after these adjustments.

Correct only the remaining geometric error
If the image is still trapezoidal, use the projector’s keystone controls. BenQ’s golf-projector instructions put 2D keystone correction before Corner Fit, which fine-tunes individual corners when the model provides it. Digital keystone changes the image through scaling and compression, which BenQ says can compromise clarity; use physical alignment and optical adjustments first.

What each adjustment changes

If the image still does not fit
- The image is too large or too small: Check the source’s active resolution and aspect ratio, then confirm that the projector’s placement distance falls within the model’s throw range. If optical zoom cannot achieve the needed size, the placement or lens range may not suit the screen; extreme keystone is not a substitute for correcting size.
- The image is shifted: Recheck physical alignment and use lens shift only if your model has it. Confirm its limits in the model guide rather than assuming it can move the image far enough.
- The image is trapezoidal: Square the projector to the screen as much as possible, then apply keystone correction and, if available, Corner Fit for residual errors.
- Automatic correction fails: Make sure its calibration pattern is visible and unobstructed. For the GV50 specifically, BenQ also recommends checking Auto fit to Screen settings and ensuring the physical screen is smooth and flat: GV50 image-correction troubleshooting.
Auto Screen Fit is model-specific
Do not assume every BenQ projector has Auto Screen Fit. The AK700ST manual describes a function that adjusts focus, zoom, and aspect ratio, followed by Corner Fit. Its setup conditions apply to that model, not to BenQ projectors generally.
For the AK700ST, make the blank image overflow all four screen borders, then adjust distance, angle, or zoom until the adjustment pattern falls inside the border. The manual specifies a border at least 6 cm thick when projection distance exceeds 3 m. At distances within 2.2 m, it specifies maximum projection angles of 10° for 16:9 or 16:10 screens and 20° for 4:3 or 1:1 screens. Consult the AK700ST User Manual for those model-specific steps and limits.
