Verdict: Bendigo Bank’s Building and Contents Plus is a combined home and household-contents policy with a notable headline benefit: up to two years of temporary accommodation if a covered event makes the home unliveable. Its advertised cover also includes flood, storm and storm surge, but not actions of the sea such as tides and waves. Whether the policy suits you depends on the terms and limits in your own quote and policy documents—not the summary page alone.
What this review covers
This is a high-level review of Bendigo Bank Home Insurance’s Building and Contents Plus option, based on Bendigo’s public product information checked on 7 October 2026. It is not a clause-by-clause review of the policy wording: the linked policy documents were listed in Bendigo’s disclosure index, but their files could not be accessed for this review. Your Certificate of Insurance, applicable Product Disclosure Statement (PDS), excesses, limits and exclusions determine what applies to your policy.

The policy is issued by Insurance Australia Limited under the CGU brand and distributed by Bendigo and Adelaide Bank Limited under an agreement. Bendigo says it receives commission included in the amount paid when a customer buys an insurance product through the bank. These are separate from any relationship this publisher may have with the product; no publisher affiliate terms are established here. Bendigo Bank’s product page describes its advice as general, not tailored to individual objectives, financial circumstances or needs.

Bendigo’s disclosure index identifies the current Home Insurance documents as applying to policies purchased on or after 23 June 2025. If your policy was bought before that date, do not assume the current summary describes your cover: earlier customers may have had Gold, Silver or Basic Bronze policies with different terms. Check your purchase or renewal date and use the matching documents. Bendigo’s Home Insurance disclosure index is the starting point for locating them.

What Building and Contents Plus advertises
Bendigo’s combined-cover summary lists protection relating to theft and vandalism, flood, storm and storm surge, fire, rebuilding, emergency repairs, temporary accommodation, visitors’ belongings and liability. These are product-page summaries, not a guarantee that every incident or cost will be paid. Definitions, conditions, exclusions and limits in the policy documents govern a claim.

Temporary accommodation
Bendigo advertises up to two years of temporary accommodation when a covered event makes the home unliveable. “Up to” is a maximum headline, not a promise that every claim qualifies for that duration or amount; the applicable conditions and limits still matter.
Flood and coastal water
The product page says flood cover is automatically included and lists storm and storm surge among advertised benefits. It also excludes actions of the sea, such as tides and waves. Those terms are not interchangeable: check how the policy defines the event that caused the damage, particularly if the property is near the coast or exposed to more than one source of water. See Bendigo’s flood-cover explanation and exclusions.

Liability
Bendigo advertises up to $20 million of liability cover per covered incident. This is a stated maximum for covered incidents, not an indication that every liability claim is covered.
Contents limits and optional benefits to examine
Some benefits depend on the selected cover or optional additions. Confirm the settings on your quote and Certificate of Insurance rather than assuming that every item mentioned on the product page is included in your selected tier.

Other limits apply to items outside Australia or New Zealand.
- Contents in storage: General contents may be covered only if CGU is told before the items are moved and its acceptance criteria are met. Valuable contents are not covered while stored, according to the product-page summary.
- Food spoilage: Bendigo states a maximum payment of up to $500 for Contents Standard and up to $2,000 for Contents Plus, with no excess. The maximum does not mean every spoilage event qualifies.

- Confirm the policy generation. Match the policy’s purchase date to the applicable documents; the current disclosure listing is for policies purchased on or after 23 June 2025.
- Check both sums insured. Make sure the building amount reflects the cost to rebuild and the contents amount reflects what it would cost to replace your household belongings. Do not treat the two amounts as interchangeable.
- Review excesses and item categories. Check the excess for the cover you need and whether valuables or portable items require an optional benefit or separate listing.
- Read the water definitions against your property. Consider whether the relevant risk is flood, storm, storm surge or an action of the sea, and read the exclusions alongside the advertised cover.
- Compare like with like. If you are considering other policies, use the same property and contents assumptions, payment frequency and cover needs. Compare temporary-accommodation limits, event definitions, excesses, item sublimits and claims arrangements—not just the headline premium.
- Get a current quote and read its documents. Bendigo directs customers to request a quote. Premiums depend on the individual risk and settings; the public information does not establish a representative price or prove that the policy is cheaper or better than alternatives.
Claims and complaints
Bendigo says CGU’s claims line is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 13 24 80. Its claims page describes escalation first through the claim consultant, then CGU’s Internal Dispute Resolution team, and—if the issue remains unresolved—to the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA). For current steps and contact details, use Bendigo’s claims information.

What the available information does—and does not—establish
Bendigo’s public pages establish the insurer and distributor, advertised benefits, selected headline limits, policy-generation cutoff and claims contact route. They do not establish a typical premium, comparative value against other insurers or the outcome of any individual claim. The linked CGU PDS, premium-and-excess guide and key fact sheets appear in the disclosure index, but their files were inaccessible for this review. Use the current PDS and your Certificate of Insurance to verify clauses, and treat the public figures as Bendigo’s stated maximums rather than independent assessments of claim outcomes.
