Before You Add a Dependency, Check These 13 Baseline 2026 APIs

Baseline 2026 currently lists 16 JavaScript and Web API entries. This 13-item shortlist follows the official order and explains how to judge whether a native feature fits before removing a dependency.

Baseline 2026 currently lists 16 entries under “JavaScript and Web APIs,” not 13. This shortlist takes the first 13 in the order shown on the official list; it is not a ranking, and it does not establish that any entry can replace a particular library. Treat each as a reason to check whether a native feature fits your project—not as an automatic instruction to remove a dependency.

What Baseline 2026 tells you—and what it doesn’t

Baseline is a browser-support signal for web-platform features. MDN describes the core browser set as Apple Safari on iOS and macOS, Chrome on Android and desktop, Edge on desktop, and Firefox on Android and desktop. “Newly available” means support in the latest stable versions across that set; “Widely available” reflects a consistent support history of at least 2.5 years. web.dev describes the latter milestone as arriving 30 months after a feature becomes newly interoperable.

That distinction matters when deciding whether to adopt a browser API. Newly available does not mean compatible with older browsers or devices. And Baseline alone says nothing about whether a feature meets your needs for accessibility, performance, security, usability, or assistive-technology support. As MDN puts it, “Baseline is a summary of browser support.” MDN Web Docs: Baseline (compatibility) explains the browser set and the limits of the signal; web.dev’s Baseline overview describes the stages and their use in development workflows.

13 entries from the JavaScript and Web APIs list

The official Baseline 2026 list labels this feature set as the latest and currently developing set. The 13 entries below follow its published order. The list establishes Baseline membership, not an API’s detailed behavior or a one-for-one substitute for a library.

  1. Intl.Locale info
  2. ToggleEvent source
  3. JavaScript modules in shared workers
  4. Shared worker
  5. Math.sumPrecise()
  6. Iterator.concat()
  7. Readable byte streams
  8. Reporting API
  9. CSP violation reports
  10. WebTransport
  11. Trusted types
  12. Branch hinting (WebAssembly)
  13. Map getOrInsert()

The official JavaScript and Web APIs section currently has three more entries after this shortlist: Zstandard compression, JavaScript modules in service workers, and Navigation API. Those are not included here because the title calls for 13; they are not excluded because Baseline considers them less important. The same page lists HTML and CSS features separately, so they are not part of this API count.

How to decide whether a native API replaces a dependency

Start with the specific job your dependency performs. A Baseline label cannot show that native functionality covers the same features, ergonomics, or fallback behavior as your installed package. Check the API’s documentation and compatibility details against the dependency’s actual use in your application before changing code.

  • Compare scope: identify which package features your application uses and whether the native API covers each one.
  • Check your support floor: confirm support for the browsers and older devices your users need, rather than relying only on the newly available milestone.
  • Plan for unsupported browsers: decide whether progressive enhancement, a fallback, or continued use of the dependency is appropriate.
  • Evaluate the whole feature: assess accessibility, assistive-technology behavior, security, usability, and performance separately; Baseline does not certify them.
  • Weigh maintenance: compare the work of implementing and maintaining the native path, including any fallback, with the package you would remove.

Only after those checks can you make a project-specific case for removing a dependency. Baseline is useful evidence about browser availability; it is not proof of bundle savings, better performance, lower maintenance, or a universal replacement.

Check the list again before adopting a feature

Because the 2026 set is still developing, its membership and support status can change. Recheck the official list and the compatibility information for the feature when making an adoption decision. Baseline-aware checks can fit into development workflows, but they do not replace testing against your own browser requirements and product needs.
