Beats Studio Buds+ vs. Beats Solo Buds: Which Should You Buy?

Studio Buds+ adds ANC, Transparency, spatial audio, and case-supported listening time. Solo Buds has a smaller, lighter case and simpler charging options.

Choose Beats Studio Buds+ if you want active noise cancellation (ANC), Transparency mode, Dolby Atmos spatial audio, or a case that can recharge the earbuds away from power. Choose Beats Solo Buds if you do not need ANC and value a smaller, lighter case or the option to charge the earbuds directly from a phone, tablet, or laptop. The battery figures are not directly equivalent: Studio Buds+ has a case-supported total, while Solo Buds is rated for up to 18 hours of playback and its case must be connected to power to recharge the buds. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results.

What is the main difference between Studio Buds+ and Solo Buds?

Noise control is the clearest dividing line. Beats says Solo Buds do not have ANC; Studio Buds+ offers both ANC and Transparency mode. Beats describes the snug Solo Buds ear tips as providing passive noise isolation, which is different from electronic ANC. A physical seal may reduce some outside sound, but it is not a substitute for active cancellation.

Transparency mode is also distinct: it is designed to let outside sound through while you listen. If you regularly want to reduce environmental noise or hear more of it without removing an earbud, Studio Buds+ has the more flexible feature set. Beats states the distinction directly on its Solo Buds support page.

How do their battery life and charging compare?

Beats publishes different battery conditions for the two models, so the headline figures should not be read as an even comparison.

Model Manufacturer-stated playback What the case does
Beats Studio Buds+ Up to 9 hours from the earbuds and 36 hours total with the case when ANC and Transparency are off; up to 6 hours from the earbuds and 24 hours total with the case when either mode is on. Beats states the case provides additional charges. A five-minute Fast Fuel charge is listed as providing up to one hour of playback.
Beats Solo Buds Up to 18 hours of playback, according to Beats. The case charges the earbuds when connected to USB-C power; it does not provide extra battery charges while disconnected. Beats also lists a five-minute Fast Fuel charge for up to one hour of playback.

All figures are Beats’ “up to” claims, not independently measured endurance. The distinction that matters day to day is that Studio Buds+ can use its case to extend listening between access to power, whereas Solo Buds’ case needs to be plugged in to recharge the buds. Beats also says Solo Buds can be charged directly from a phone, tablet, or laptop.

Included charging accessories

  • Studio Buds+: USB-C charging and a USB-C-to-USB-C cable are listed; the power adapter is sold separately.
  • Solo Buds: USB-C cable and power adapter are not included. The case can connect to USB-C power, and the earbuds can draw charge directly from a phone, tablet, or laptop.

Which model has more listening features?

Beats lists ANC, Transparency mode, and Dolby Atmos spatial audio for Studio Buds+. Its product listing also specifies IPX4-rated sweat- and water-resistant earbuds. The Solo Buds listing emphasizes its custom acoustic architecture and does not list spatial audio or specify an IP rating. That is a difference in published feature information, not proof of a difference in sound quality or a basis for assuming an unstated Solo Buds water-resistance rating.

Both models are listed as compatible with Apple and Android devices. Native platform features may vary, so compatibility across both ecosystems should not be taken to mean every platform-specific feature is identical.

Which has the smaller case, and how do they fit?

Beats lists the Solo Buds case at 22 g and 6.6 × 3.5 × 2.4 cm; the Studio Buds+ case is listed at 49 g and 7.2 × 5.1 × 2.55 cm. By those specifications, Solo Buds has the smaller, lighter case.

Both sets include four silicone ear-tip sizes: XS, S, M, and L. Beats describes Solo Buds as having ergonomically angled acoustic nozzles, but specifications cannot establish which pair will be more comfortable or secure for a particular listener.

How should you compare their prices?

The official Beats pages retrieved for this comparison show different markets and price types: the US Studio Buds+ page displayed an original price of $169.99, while the UK Solo Buds page displayed a sale price of £79.99. These figures are not a like-for-like comparison and should not be used to calculate savings or declare a cheaper model. Check current prices for both earbuds in your own region before deciding.
