Base44 has introduced Base Code, a cloud development workspace for teams working on software they already have. A team connects a GitHub repository; Base Code’s agent analyzes the project and prepares a cloud environment, after which teammates can suggest changes in AI chat, review a live preview and submit pull requests. The product is aimed at letting roles such as product managers and designers contribute while engineers retain review and release control.
What is Base Code?
Base Code is a standalone cloud product for collaborating on existing software repositories, rather than a tool solely for generating a new app from scratch. Base44 says teams can access projects through a browser or mobile device without installing software or setting up a local development environment. The company describes shared workspaces where non-engineering teammates can contribute alongside engineers.
Base44 positions Base Code alongside its app builder, Superagents and Base44 Backend. Its app builder is described as serving people building from scratch; Base Code is for product teams starting with an established codebase. Base44’s September 28, 2026 announcement outlines that distinction.
How does Base Code work?
- Connect a repository. The stated starting point is a GitHub repository. Base Code’s agent analyzes the codebase and identifies environment needs; DevOps.com reports that this can include requirements such as the database the application uses.
- Prepare a cloud workspace. Base44 says the product configures infrastructure, databases and sample data until a live preview is ready. The project then runs in the cloud rather than requiring each contributor to configure a local environment.
- Describe and inspect a change. A teammate uses AI chat to request a change and can see the result in a live preview. Base44 says multiple AI models can power the conversation, but the launch announcement does not name them.
- Submit a pull request. Changes are handed off through pull requests, leaving the team’s existing review and release process in place. Engineers remain responsible for that review and release, according to the company’s positioning.
DevOps.com’s October 2, 2026 coverage likewise describes an AI system that analyzes a GitHub-hosted project and creates a sandbox around its discovered requirements.

Who is Base Code designed for?
Base44 describes the target as product companies with established codebases. Alongside engineers, it names product managers, designers, QA, operations and marketing as potential contributors. The model is collaborative rather than a transfer of release authority: a non-engineer can propose or inspect a change, while engineers keep the pull-request review and release responsibilities.
“Base Code opens a new path for PMs, designers, QA, and operations teams to contribute directly to existing codebases, while keeping engineers in control of the review process.”

DevOps.com characterizes the shared workspace as Figma-style and reports the stated goal of reducing friction as designers and developers iterate. That is a description of the intended collaboration model, not evidence of measured productivity gains.

The launch materials describe repository connection, cloud environment setup, AI chat, live previews, shared access and pull-request handoff. Base44 also says workspace owners and admins can limit imports to approved GitHub organizations, and that secrets are encrypted, shared across branches and never committed to the repository. These are company-stated security features; the cited launch materials do not independently verify implementation or establish security certifications.
