Check the current policy documents and your owners corporation’s building policy before relying on cover for any specific item.
What Bank First publicly says Contents Plus includes
Bank First arranges home insurance under the CGU brand; Insurance Australia Limited is the insurer. Bank First describes general contents as belongings kept in and around the home that are not permanently attached to the structure. Its page gives accidental breakage of a television as an example of accidental damage cover. Bank First’s Home and Contents page says this benefit is optional with Contents Standard and automatically included with Contents Plus.

Bank First says works of art, collections, jewellery and watches share a total $2,500 coverage limit within general contents, unless the customer selects the Valuable Contents additional benefit for higher amounts. Check the current PDS and certificate for the applicable terms and any item-specific requirements.

Portable contents
Portable contents is optional. Bank First states a limit of up to $10,000 per item unless an item is separately listed for more. The page also notes geographic limits outside Australia and New Zealand and exclusions, including for certain sporting equipment while in use. Confirm the current wording for destinations, activities and listed items before taking belongings away from home.
Items in storage
Bank First says general contents in storage may be covered only if CGU is told before the items are moved and its acceptance criteria are met. Valuable contents are not covered in storage, according to the page. Contact the insurer and check the policy wording before arranging storage.

What the strata accommodation statement means
For an owner-occupier whose home is part of a strata or similar scheme, Bank First says CGU covers reasonable temporary accommodation costs, subject to further limits, exclusions and conditions. This is a stated accommodation benefit; it does not establish that the policy insures the building, all fixtures or every improvement made to a lot.
How to check fixtures and improvements in a strata lot
There is no reliable way to infer responsibility from the general label “contents.” The public page describes contents as items not permanently attached to the structure, but it does not resolve how a specific fixture or improvement is treated under this policy or the owners corporation’s building insurance.

- Get the current Bank First/CGU PDS and your certificate or schedule. Identify the policy version and effective date, insured address, cover selected, limits and listed items.
- Ask the owners corporation or strata manager for the building policy and relevant definitions. Check how it treats the item or improvement you are concerned about.
- Compare both policies’ wording for the same item rather than assuming one policy begins where the other ends.
- If the documents leave the boundary unclear, ask Bank First or CGU and the strata manager to clarify it in writing before relying on cover.
What to verify before deciding
- Eligibility and whether the policy suits your circumstances.
- Premium, excess, exclusions and claims conditions.
- The limits and options for valuable contents, including any requirements to list items.
- Portable contents limits, geographic restrictions and activity exclusions.
- Temporary accommodation conditions and limits for strata owner-occupiers.
- Whether a specific fixture or improvement is covered, checked against the strata building policy.
Bank First’s disclosure page lists a Home Insurance PDS, a Premium, Excess & Discounts Guide, Key Facts Sheets for Home Building and Home Contents, and a Target Market Determination. It says documents for policies issued before 27 May 2025 should be requested from CGU. The current PDS version and its wording should be confirmed directly; the public summary is not a substitute for it. Bank First’s insurance disclosure information also says Bank First arranges cover under its own AFSL and an agreement with CGU, not as the customer’s agent, and receives commission when selling CGU products.
