If a Karlach or Astarion scene is missing in Baldur’s Gate 3, there is no universal fix: the likely explanation depends on the exact scene, act, character’s role, save conditions, and whether mods are installed. Larian has documented fixes for several specific scene-trigger bugs, but those historical fixes do not prove that every absent scene is currently bugged.
Spoiler notice: This guide refers to character scenes and the Avernus epilogue without detailing their plot outcomes.

First identify which scene is missing
Before changing your save or repeating in-game actions, narrow down the symptom. Note the character, act, whether the scene is romantic or non-romantic, and whether Karlach or Astarion is your player character or a companion. Those details matter because Larian’s patch notes describe distinct triggers and conditions, not one general failure affecting every scene.
- Which scene did you expect, and in which act or epilogue?
- Is it a romance scene, a camp scene, a final scene, or another story moment?
- Is the character the player avatar or a companion?
- What happened immediately before the expected trigger?
- What platform and game version are you using, and are any mods installed?
Why is my Karlach scene not triggering?
Larian’s patch history records fixes for particular Karlach scenes, but they should not be treated as fixes for every missing Karlach moment.

A final scene that did not trigger
Hotfix 3 fixed an issue that prevented one of Karlach’s final scenes from triggering. The note does not say that every Karlach ending or scene was affected. If this is the scene you mean, check that your game is updated; if it still fails, report the exact scene and save context to Larian rather than assuming the old fix covers your case. Larian’s Hotfix 3 notes.
The Avernus scene
Hotfix 15 addressed an availability issue for Karlach’s Avernus scene, so it could appear whether Karlach was the player avatar or a companion. That is a specific historical correction, not confirmation that any present-day absence has the same cause. Larian’s Hotfix 15 notes.
Other Karlach moments
Patch 2 added Karlach scenes in Acts 1 and 2 and a new epilogue scene. If you are looking for one of those additions, identify the particular moment and where it belongs in your playthrough; the patch announcement does not provide a universal method to force a scene after its story conditions have passed. Why am I missing Astarion’s camp scene?
Astarion’s “bitey” camp scene and his romance scenes are different cases. Larian’s Hotfix 3 notes say the camp scene could still occur if the player discovered his secret by another means. If your missing scene is that specific camp moment, the fix may be relevant; it does not establish that every Astarion camp or romance scene should trigger under the same conditions. Larian’s Hotfix 3 notes.
Patch 5 separately fixed a bug in which Astarion’s romance scene could trigger across two consecutive Long Rests under certain conditions. That note describes a particular timing bug; it is not advice to repeat Long Rests until a missing scene appears. Larian’s Patch 5 notes.
Did Baldur’s Gate 3 stop adding new scenes?
Larian said on April 15, 2025: “Outside of minor bug fixing, Patch 8 will be the last game patch to introduce new content.” That means players should not expect a later game patch to add new narrative scenes, but it does not mean maintenance ended. Larian’s official support listing includes Hotfix 36, dated March 26, 2026. Check the live listing for any newer entry and confirm that your installed version is current. How to report a persistent scene bug
Give support enough detail to distinguish your case from the older bugs Larian already fixed. Include your platform, installed game version, exact scene, act, whether the character is avatar or companion, mod status, and the steps immediately before the expected scene. The official notes establish that specific Karlach and Astarion scene-trigger bugs existed and were fixed. They do not give a current count of unresolved scene bugs or a universal way to restore a scene that was skipped because a story condition was not met.
