No primary announcement located for this story confirms that Bakkt selected Thredd to power a credit-card-as-a-service program settling in stablecoins. The available filings and company announcements show related projects at both companies, but they do not establish a Bakkt–Thredd agreement, launch, market, supported stablecoins, settlement route or cardholder terms.

What is actually confirmed

The closest verified development is a September 23, 2026 announcement from Thredd about a partnership with Velocity. Thredd said the relationship would add stablecoin-powered money movement to its global payments platform. The initial business focus included B2B and B2B2B applications such as stablecoin-backed card programs, cross-border payouts, treasury flows and on-chain settlement.

That announcement names Velocity, not Bakkt. Mention of stablecoin-backed cards describes an intended use case for the Thredd–Velocity relationship; it is not evidence that Bakkt selected Thredd for a particular card program.

What Bakkt has disclosed

Bakkt’s Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2026 described three product configurations in development:

  • a modular neobanking-as-a-service stack;
  • white-label card and credit-card programs; and
  • agentic cross-border transfers.

The filing did not identify Thredd as the processor or other provider for those products. Bakkt’s August 10, 2026 second-quarter results release said initial partner products powered by Bakkt Agent, including co-branded card programs, were targeted for commercial launch in the fourth quarter of 2026. “Targeted” is a future objective, not confirmation that a named card program had launched or that Thredd was involved.

What Thredd’s platform can do in general

Thredd describes its issuer-processing platform as supporting prepaid, debit and credit cards in both virtual and physical formats. Its general platform material also describes stablecoin-backed card and settlement capabilities. Those statements establish a broad technical capability, not the design of an unnamed Bakkt product.

A processor’s ability to support stablecoin settlement should not be confused with the way a cardholder would use the card. The available material does not say whether a customer would spend stablecoins directly, whether a balance would be converted to fiat before authorization, who would provide credit, or how repayment would work.

Evidence at a glance

Question What the available sources establish
Did Bakkt select Thredd? Not verified by the located primary sources.
Did Thredd announce stablecoin card work? Yes, as an intended use case in its September 23, 2026 partnership with Velocity.
Does Bakkt have card products in development? Yes. Its June 30, 2026 quarterly filing listed white-label card and credit-card programs in development.
Was a Bakkt co-branded card launch scheduled? Bakkt’s August 10, 2026 release targeted initial Bakkt Agent partner products, including co-branded cards, for Q4 2026.
Which stablecoins, networks or countries are supported? Not stated for the alleged Bakkt–Thredd program.
How would settlement and repayment work? Not stated for the alleged program.

Why the distinction matters

“Card-as-a-service” can cover several separate responsibilities: licensing or sponsorship, issuer processing, card-network connectivity, ledgering, compliance, credit underwriting, funding and customer servicing. Stablecoin settlement may refer to a business-to-business movement of funds between providers rather than a consumer paying a bill in a digital token.

Without a program-specific announcement, it is impossible to determine whether Bakkt would underwrite credit, whether another institution would fund receivables, or whether Thredd would provide only processing. It is also impossible to establish fees, interest, limits, dispute rights, consumer protections, conversion rates or repayment currency.

What a confirmed announcement would need to disclose

A reliable confirmation should identify the parties’ roles and provide operational details, including:

  • which company issues the account and performs credit underwriting;
  • the card network, launch markets and eligibility requirements;
  • the supported stablecoins and blockchain networks;
  • the path from a stablecoin balance to an authorized card transaction and back to settlement;
  • whether settlement is real time, batched or converted through a fiat intermediary;
  • the launch date and availability by country; and
  • consumer fees, repayment terms, disclosures, chargeback handling and safeguarding arrangements.

Until those details appear in a primary announcement or regulatory filing, reports should describe the Bakkt–Thredd connection as unconfirmed rather than as a launched stablecoin credit-card product.

Bottom line for readers

There are two real but separate developments: Thredd announced stablecoin-enabled money movement with Velocity, and Bakkt disclosed card and credit-card products in development, with some partner products targeted for Q4 2026. The sources do not connect those developments. No launch date, geography, supported token, settlement mechanism or cardholder terms can responsibly be attributed to a Bakkt–Thredd program at this time.
