Bridge Data Centres (BDC), which is owned by Bain Capital, was reported to be in talks with lenders about a potential loan of up to US$6 billion to fund expansion in Thailand. The available reports do not verify the US$6.6 billion figure in the original headline, and the borrowing had not been reported as closed. The amount and terms remained preliminary as of the March 23, 2026 reports.

How much is Bridge Data Centres borrowing?

The Business Times and Data Center Dynamics, relaying Bloomberg reporting on March 23, 2026, said BDC was discussing a potential facility of up to US$6 billion. Both accounts attributed the information to people familiar with the matter. The reports describe an upper limit under discussion—not a final facility size or a completed loan. The Business Times report said the talks were ongoing and that details could change; it also reported that BDC declined to comment. Data Center Dynamics carried the same reported amount and purpose.

A subsequent summary published by The Edge Malaysia on April 2, 2026 also described the discussions as being for up to US$6 billion, not US$6.6 billion. The Edge Malaysia summary does not establish a higher amount or confirm that the transaction closed.

Has the loan been upsized to US$6.6 billion?

The available reporting does not verify a US$6.6 billion loan or an increase to that amount. It supports only reports of ongoing discussions for a potential loan of up to US$6 billion. Until a source confirms a revised figure and the transaction’s status, US$6.6 billion should not be treated as an agreed or completed financing.

What would the borrowing fund?

The reported purpose is BDC’s expansion in Thailand. The reporting does not identify a final allocation of the proposed loan among individual projects, nor does it establish that the borrowing has funded construction.

QHI01 near Bangkok

Data Center Dynamics reported that BDC’s QHI01 campus near Bangkok broke ground in July 2025. It described the site as approximately 16 hectares, with expected capacity of up to 200MW at full build-out and an estimated investment of roughly US$1.2 billion. These are reported project plans and estimates, not confirmation that the full capacity has been delivered or that the proposed loan is financing QHI01.

What loan terms are known?

How does this differ from BDC’s 2025 financing?

In March 2025, BDC announced a separate US$2.8 billion senior secured bank financing to accelerate development in high-growth markets including Malaysia and Thailand. That announced financing is historical context; it is not the same as the potential Thailand loan reported in March 2026, and it does not show that the later borrowing was completed. BDC’s 2025 financing announcement describes the earlier facility.

Is the loan connected to a possible BDC stake sale?

Not according to the reports available. Bloomberg Law reported in January 2026 that Bain Capital was working with Citi and JPMorgan on an early-stage review of BDC that might lead to a stake sale, but said it might not result in one. That ownership-options review is separate from the reported loan discussions and does not confirm the loan’s size or status. Bloomberg Law’s report covers the separate review.
