Best verified deal: a white USB-C Backbone One 2nd Gen PlayStation Edition was listed at Best Buy for $79.99, down from $99.99, in an August 2026 price check. A Lightning 2nd Gen appeared at Walmart for about $64.95–$67.99, but those offers were marketplace listings. The right bargain depends first on your phone’s connector: Lightning and USB-C Backbone One models are not interchangeable.
Backbone One prices checked in August 2026
There is no single universal Backbone One sale. Color, edition, generation, connector, condition, seller and inventory all change the price. The following snapshots show how to read the market rather than treating every listing with “Backbone One” in its title as the same product.
| Model and listing | Condition and seller | Observed price | List/reference price | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Backbone One 2nd Gen USB-C, white PlayStation Edition | Best Buy listing; verify fulfillment at checkout | $79.99 | $99.99 | $20 discount; the clearest retailer sale in the snapshot |
| Backbone One 2nd Gen USB-C, black | Best Buy | $99.99 | $99.99 | Normal list-price territory, not a meaningful sale |
| Backbone One 2nd Gen Lightning, black | Walmart marketplace offers | About $64.95–$67.99 | About $99 | Potentially strong value, but seller, condition and warranty vary |
| Backbone One 2nd Gen USB-C, white PlayStation Edition | Walmart listing; marketplace offers also appeared | $79.95 shown | $99.99 | Similar discount, with fulfillment details requiring inspection |
| Backbone official USB-C PlayStation page | Backbone direct | $99.99 on one indexed version; another showed $79.99 or “Sale Sold out” | Varies by page state | Confirm live stock and checkout price before relying on it |
Prices and stock can change quickly. Treat these as dated snapshots, not guarantees. A new 2nd Gen at $79.99 or less is a meaningful discount; around $60–$70 is attractive for a Lightning model only when the listing is genuinely new and the seller offers acceptable returns and warranty coverage.

| Your phone | Correct family |
|---|---|
| iPhone 14 or earlier with a Lightning port | Backbone One Lightning |
| iPhone 15, 16 or 17 series with USB-C | Backbone One USB-C |
| Most compatible Android phones | Backbone One USB-C |
A Lightning controller cannot be converted into a USB-C model. USB-C is the practical choice for current USB-C iPhones and Android, but Android support still depends on the individual phone’s dimensions, port position, operating system and case. Use Backbone’s compatibility information on the official product page before ordering.
Cases and camera bumps
Thick, rugged or unusually shaped cases can keep the phone from seating fully or put strain on the connector. Check case-clearance guidance, remove the case if necessary, never force the phone into the grips, and test every button and connection while the return window is open.
Is the discount actually good?
- $99.99: ordinary list-price territory for many 2nd Gen versions.
- $79.99–$89.99: a decent retailer discount.
- $59.99–$79.99: a strong deal when the unit is new and the seller is reputable.
- Below $60: potentially excellent, but check generation, condition, seller, warranty and returns carefully.
These are buying guidelines, not manufacturer price claims. An open-box or refurbished unit is not equivalent to new retailer stock if the savings are only a few dollars.

What the Backbone One does—and what it does not
The Backbone One is a wired, phone-mounted gamepad. It draws power from the connected phone, so the controller has no conventional battery to recharge. Pass-through charging lets you charge the phone while playing, and relevant models include a 3.5mm headset jack. The wired connection avoids Bluetooth pairing and is designed for responsive control, but the phone remains physically attached and the controller is not a general wireless gamepad.

Supported uses
- Controller-compatible iOS and Android games, including supported titles such as Call of Duty: Mobile and Roblox.
- Cloud services such as Xbox Game Pass, Apple Arcade, GeForce NOW and Amazon Luna when the service and game support your device.
- PlayStation Remote Play, Xbox Remote Play and compatible PC streaming software.
Compatibility is determined by the individual game or service. The Backbone app can organize supported games, but it cannot add controller support to a touch-only title. Buying the controller also does not include a cloud-game library, console ownership or a third-party subscription.
Do you need Backbone+?
No subscription is required for basic controller operation. Backbone+ may add app features, perks or content organization, and trial terms can change. Separate subscriptions or purchases—such as Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Apple Arcade, GeForce NOW or Luna—remain separate. PlayStation Direct states that declining a trial does not prevent software updates or basic future compatibility management; see its listing for current terms.

2nd generation, editions and Backbone Pro
Backbone One 2nd Gen
Retailer descriptions identify magnetic adapters, a reshaped D-pad and improved accommodation for some cases compared with the first generation. Fit is still not universal, so a 2nd Gen label does not override your phone and case checks.
Standard versus PlayStation Edition
The standard version has neutral button styling and suits mixed mobile, Xbox, PC and cloud use. The PlayStation Edition changes the appearance and labels to match PlayStation hardware. It does not provide PlayStation games, replace a console or make Remote Play work without a compatible PlayStation setup. Both editions can be found with Lightning or USB-C connectors.
Xbox Edition
The Xbox Edition is primarily for buyers who want Xbox branding and a convenient fit with Xbox Remote Play or Cloud Gaming. Reliable current pricing for this specific edition was not established, so verify live stock before paying more than a standard model.

- 1000Hz Polling Rate on PC: Experience ultra-responsive gaming with a 1000Hz polling rate on PC, available through both wired and 2.4G wireless connections. This ensures instantaneous input registration, reducing lag and optimizing your performance for the most competitive gameplay.
- GameSir Nexus App: The G7 Pro is compatible with the upgraded GameSir Nexus app, which brings a significant upgrade over the original. It introduces powerful new features such as gyro settings, stick curve adjustments, and button-to-mouse mapping, giving you deeper customization and more control than ever before.
1st generation clearance
A 1st Gen unit can make sense when it is substantially cheaper, your phone is confirmed compatible and the warranty and return policy are clear. If the price gap is small, the 2nd Gen’s fit and D-pad refinements are the safer choice.
Backbone Pro
The Backbone Pro is the premium alternative for shoppers who want wireless functionality and more advanced features. A recent comparison placed it at approximately $169.99 versus roughly $99.99 for a Backbone One 2nd Gen and identified Bluetooth LE as a distinguishing feature. See Tom’s Guide’s comparison and Backbone’s official site. It is an upsell, not the default choice for a low-cost wired-controller deal.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. When the Backbone One is a good buy
- You want a compact controller that mounts directly to your phone.
- Your phone matches the exact Lightning or USB-C version.
- You mainly play controller-supported games or stream from a console, PC or cloud service.
- You value simple wired setup and pass-through charging.
- The new price is near or below $80.
When to skip it or choose another style
- You need a wireless controller that also works away from a mounted phone.
- You have a very large phone or thick rugged case.
- You want full-size ergonomics, Hall-effect sticks or one controller for tablets, TVs, PCs and consoles.
- Your favorite games lack reliable physical-controller support.
- The Backbone price is close to a newer, more capable competitor.
A cheaper wired controller may reduce cost but can give up fit refinement, app integration and support. A full-size Bluetooth controller with a phone clip offers broader device use and larger-hand comfort, at the cost of pairing, charging and a less compact setup. Premium mobile controllers can offer stronger ergonomics, adjustable grips or wireless operation, but usually cost more and weigh more.

- Confirm your phone model and Lightning or USB-C connector.
- Confirm 1st or 2nd generation and whether the listing is standard, PlayStation or Xbox Edition.
- Check new, open-box or refurbished status.
- Read the actual seller name and whether the retailer or a marketplace vendor fulfills the order.
- Verify warranty, return window and included adapters or accessories.
- Check case compatibility and test the controller immediately after delivery.
- Compare the final delivered price, not only the headline discount.
Carrying cases may be separate accessories; Best Buy’s Backbone catalogue listed cases at $24.99, with availability varying by color. See the brand catalogue for current stock.
Who should buy this sale?
iPhone 14-or-older owners: the Lightning 2nd Gen around $65–$70 can be a strong buy if the marketplace seller and warranty check out. USB-C iPhone and Android owners: the $79.99 USB-C 2nd Gen PlayStation Edition is a legitimate discount and the clearest value in the snapshot. PlayStation owners: choose the PlayStation Edition for styling and Remote Play convenience, not because it includes games. Budget shoppers: consider a verified 1st Gen clearance unit only when the savings are substantial. Wireless or full-size-control shoppers: skip the Backbone One and compare a Bluetooth controller or Backbone Pro instead.
