What a 24/7 YouTube stream requires
YouTube supports encoder-based live streaming. An encoder converts the video into a format YouTube can receive; it may be software, dedicated hardware, or a cloud service. Hardware is optional. For a prerecorded channel, the source must repeat or move through a playlist while the encoder continues sending the feed.

Before building the workflow, make sure your channel can go live. YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. The person streaming must be at least 16. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so do not leave activation until the planned launch time. Set up a prerecorded stream in YouTube Studio
- Enable live streaming. Verify the channel and request activation if needed. Allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation, according to YouTube’s stated maximum.
- Prepare the content. Choose a video or playlist you have the right to broadcast. Configure your playback or service to repeat it continuously; do not assume YouTube Studio itself supplies a loop for an encoder input.
- Create the broadcast. In YouTube Studio, open Go Live and create a stream. Follow the current Studio prompts for its title, visibility, and other broadcast details.
- Connect the encoder. Copy the server URL and stream key shown for the stream into the encoder. Treat the key as a secret credential: anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your broadcast. YouTube’s encoder page explains the connection workflow.
- Start and verify the feed. Start the encoder and check YouTube Studio’s live preview and stream status before treating the channel as live. Confirm that the expected video and audio are present, then keep a way to detect a stopped feed and restore it.
YouTube’s help pages establish the connection sequence, not a universal bitrate, resolution, frame rate, or keyframe interval that suits every source and network. Use the encoder and YouTube’s current recommendations for your chosen output rather than relying on a fixed setting without considering the source and available upload bandwidth.

Monitor and recover
YouTube explains how to connect an encoder but does not promise an uninterrupted broadcast. A long-running channel should have a way to notice when the feed stops and a recovery plan—such as restarting the encoder or using a service with a documented recovery feature. Test the complete setup, including what happens after a network interruption or encoder restart; no arrangement should be treated as failure-proof without evidence.

Do not assume a full-day archive
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That does not establish that a stream running 12 hours or longer will have a complete replay. If you need a dependable recording, arrange a separate recording or divide programming into shorter broadcasts, then confirm the current archive workflow in Studio. The current threshold and caveat are described in YouTube’s encoder streaming guidance.
Clear every part of the programming
Use material you own, have licensed, or are otherwise authorized to broadcast, including music and any third-party footage. YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. A match can replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it. Even licensed material may be interrupted if the rights holder has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams and resolve permissions before going live.
