What Khaneja’s video compares
Reports by Hindustan Times and NDTV identify the creator as Aditya Khaneja, an Indian man living in Australia. Hindustan Times says he stated that he had lived there for 10 years.
The Australian examples attributed to the clip are the AFL Grand Final, Melbourne Cup Day, the Royal Queensland Show holiday and Picnic Day in Darwin. Khaneja sets them against Indian occasions including Independence Day and Diwali, framing the contrast as a joke about making room for fun. Hindustan Times reproduces his line: “There’s one thing the rest of the world can learn from this – the fun shouldn’t stop.”
The examples are selective, not a complete calendar for either country. Khaneja’s closing Hindi line, as translated by Hindustan Times, says this is the reason people may have heard Australians are laid-back. That is the video’s playful interpretation, not evidence of a national personality trait.

Why the Australian examples do not apply everywhere
Australian public holidays are set across different state and territory jurisdictions. A day associated with an event or local show may apply in one place and not another; it should not be read as a day off for every Australian. Both news reports describe this as a point of contention in the comments, including an objection that some of the cited holidays do not apply in New South Wales.
NDTV also notes that weekend substitution depends on the applicable state or territory arrangements. The clip and news reports do not establish that every holiday falling on a weekend automatically creates a Friday or Monday day off.

How viewers reacted—and what the “13” means
The reported response was mixed. Some commenters agreed with the laid-back framing, while others challenged the comparison or argued that India has more holidays. A commenter asked, “Overall how many PH in a year??” Hindustan Times reports that Khaneja replied, “Not many. 13.”
That figure is his reported reply, not a verified national total. The two reports do not compare official calendars for a defined year and location, so the exchange cannot establish how many public holidays people in either country actually receive.

What a fair holiday-count comparison would require
To compare total days off, a reader would need to choose a particular year and place, then distinguish national holidays from state, territory or local ones. A careful comparison would also need to account for who observes each holiday and how the relevant jurisdiction handles dates that fall on weekends. The examples in the viral clip illustrate different kinds of occasions; they are not enough to calculate which country has more public holidays.
