Audible announced three AI-enhanced listening experiences on October 1, 2026: Character Guide, Interactive Story and Visual Explorer. The company says they are rolling out in limited beta to U.S. and UK customers, not across the entire catalog. Audible has named Dracula and 1984 for Character Guide, and Dracula as the first Interactive Story; it has not published a complete list of eligible titles.
What the three new Audible features do
The features serve different purposes: one helps track who is speaking, one adds a conversation beyond the audiobook’s original narrative, and one surfaces visual context while listening.

What limited beta means for listeners
Audible says each experience is rolling out in limited beta for customers in the United States and United Kingdom. That establishes the announced territories, but not that every customer in either country—or every audiobook—will have access. The announcement does not give a full eligibility checklist or a wider release date. It also does not report user-study findings, accuracy rates, response-error rates or independent evaluations, so those aspects of the experience remain unestablished.

For Interactive Story, Audible says creators shape key elements, including the scenes, turning points and character persona. The company frames further rollout as a collaboration with creators and publishers, rather than a feature automatically attached to all titles.
How these differ from Audible’s other AI features
Audible has announced other AI-related tools, but they are separate from these three listening experiences. Their existence does not mean a given title supports every feature.

Ask a Question: in-playback answers on eligible books
In October 2025, Audible described an in-app beta for U.S. listeners covering thousands of eligible classic and public-domain titles. It lets listeners ask about character backgrounds, plot details and historical context while the audiobook continues. The title must be purchased or available through the listener’s membership, according to Audible’s announcement. This is a question-and-answer tool, not the character-led interaction announced in October 2026.
Maven: conversational audiobook discovery
Maven is for finding audiobooks through natural-language recommendations, rather than interacting with a story during playback. Audible’s examples include requests such as “I’m looking for an uplifting fiction novel with a female protagonist” and “show me fantasy audiobooks that I can complete on an eight-hour road trip.” In August 2026, Audible reported that conversational discovery was 17 percent more successful than traditional keyword search. That is a company-reported result; the cited announcement does not explain the measurement method or provide independent validation. The figure is not evidence of the new features’ quality.

AI collections, descriptions and narration initiatives
In July 2025, Audible described using AI for personalized homepage collections and more descriptive recommendation headers. It also discussed plans for AI narration and translation with select publisher partnerships. These are discovery and production initiatives, not features that every audiobook necessarily includes. Details appear in Audible’s July 2025 announcement.
ACX narrator voice replicas
In April 2025, Audible said its ACX platform had invited a small group of U.S. narrators to a beta for creating and monetizing AI replicas of their own voices. Audible said participating narrators retained control over which projects they auditioned for and whether to use a replica or live performance. That production-focused beta is distinct from the new listener-facing tools; see Audible’s announcement.

What Audible has—and has not—established
The October 2026 announcement describes the intended functions and gives examples, but does not publish a complete list of compatible titles or devices. It also does not provide independent expert review, user-study results, or measured accuracy and error rates for Character Guide, Interactive Story or Visual Explorer. Those details should be treated as unknown, not inferred from Audible’s separate Maven search statistic or from the presence of AI in other parts of its service.
