AT&T calls the home Internet and Fiber box a Wi-Fi gateway. It connects your home to AT&T broadband and provides Wi-Fi. If you have AT&T Internet Air, the corresponding device is called an All-Fi Hub. The exact model depends on your service and installation, so check the label on your device rather than assuming every AT&T customer has the same box.
What is the AT&T Internet box called?
For AT&T Internet and AT&T Fiber, the general name is a Wi-Fi gateway. AT&T describes it as the connection between your home and its broadband network, as well as the source of your home Wi-Fi. For AT&T Internet Air, AT&T uses the name All-Fi Hub. AT&T’s equipment guide covers these service-specific names.

“Modem” and “router” are sometimes used informally for home internet equipment, but “Wi-Fi gateway” is AT&T’s term for its Internet and Fiber device. Use the model name only when you have confirmed it on the device label or in authoritative AT&T information.

Look for the model number printed on the gateway’s label. AT&T lists the BGW320, BGW210, Pace 5268, NVG599, and NVG589 among common Wi-Fi gateway models, while noting that customers may have other models. Do not assume that a BGW320 is standard for every Internet or Fiber customer.

| Service | AT&T device name | Connection context |
|---|---|---|
| AT&T Internet or Fiber | Wi-Fi gateway; model varies | Depending on the installation, the gateway connects to a fiber jack or to an external ONT over Ethernet. |
| AT&T Internet Air | All-Fi Hub | AT&T identifies this as the device for Internet Air; the equipment guide does not establish a single model label for all customers. |
AT&T’s BGW320 setup page also calls that particular model an “All-Fi Hub.” That wording does not mean all All-Fi Hubs are BGW320s, or that all AT&T customers receive one. The BGW320 setup instructions explain the model-specific installation.
Is the gateway the same as an ONT or fiber jack?
No. These are separate parts of a fiber installation:

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Wi-Fi gateway: Connects the home to AT&T broadband and supplies Wi-Fi.
- Optical Network Terminal (ONT): Converts the fiber’s light signal into an electrical signal, then sends it to the gateway over Ethernet.
- Fiber jack: An installed connection point for AT&T Fiber. Depending on the setup, a green-tipped fiber cable may run from the jack to a BGW320.
In another BGW320 arrangement, a red-tipped Ethernet cable connects the gateway to an external ONT. The equipment and cable arrangement depends on the installation. AT&T says installed ONTs and fiber jacks should not be removed; do not unplug or remove service-side equipment based on a generic description of the “internet box.”
What does the gateway do, and what does the app do?
The physical gateway provides the home’s connection to AT&T broadband and Wi-Fi. For supported customers, the Smart Home Manager app can show the Wi-Fi password, change the network name, display connected devices, run a speed test, set parental controls, and help troubleshoot. Those are app features; they are not functions performed solely by the gateway itself. See AT&T’s Smart Home Manager information for eligibility and app details.

BGW320 ports, placement, and extenders
These details apply specifically to the BGW320, not to every AT&T gateway. AT&T’s BGW320 FAQ says its yellow Ethernet ports support up to 1,000 Mbps and its blue ports up to 5,000 Mbps. The red ONT Ethernet port is for connecting the BGW320 to AT&T Fiber; it is not a customer-device port.
The same FAQ says the BGW320 can be moved only within reach of its fiber or Ethernet service cable. Moving it beyond that reach requires a technician appointment. For coverage in hard-to-reach areas, AT&T confirms that a Wi-Fi extender can be used with the BGW320; check service eligibility and exact extender compatibility rather than assuming any extender will work.

AT&T says its Extended Wi-Fi Service, when added to an eligible Internet plan, includes an AirTies 4971 extender. Older AirTies 4920 and 4921 units may also be present. This does not establish universal compatibility among third-party extenders.

How to set up a BGW320 safely
- Check the device label to confirm that you have a BGW320.
- Identify the installed connection: a green-tipped fiber cable to a fiber jack, or a red-tipped Ethernet cable to an external ONT.
- Follow the steps in AT&T’s BGW320 setup guide using the Smart Home Manager app and your AT&T account.
- Keep installed fiber-jack and ONT equipment in place, and do not treat the red ONT connection as a port for a computer or other customer device.
The correct setup path depends on the equipment already installed in your home. Do not infer the connection type from the general label “AT&T internet box.”

What do BGW320 lights mean?
Use AT&T’s BGW320 LED guide for the exact light pattern. Its examples include:
- Solid red service light, WPS off: The gateway may be overheating; place it on a flat, ventilated surface.
- Solid red service and WPS lights: A possible hardware issue. The guide advises rebooting and seeking a replacement if the problem remains.
- Fast-blinking red: May indicate a network service issue.
- Slow-blinking red: Indicates no broadband connection; check for an outage, inspect for a loose or damaged cable, and reboot as applicable.
- Amber: Can indicate startup or an update in progress.
These interpretations are BGW320-specific. A red light alone does not establish that every AT&T gateway has failed.
Do you need to buy a cable or replacement gateway?
AT&T says it supplies Cat 6 Ethernet cables with internet equipment and recommends Category 6 or better if you need a replacement cable. Buying one is relevant only if you need a replacement or an additional wired connection. The equipment guide says supplied gateways and power supplies must be returned when service is canceled, so it does not support treating a used AT&T gateway as a general replacement purchase.
