The AT&T amiGO Jr. Tab 2 is a children’s Android tablet with an 8.7-inch matte display, included bumper case and stylus, and 5G/LTE support. Its strongest appeal is the combination of drawing-friendly hardware and parent-managed limits for screen time, apps, websites, communication, and location. AT&T lists it at $239.99; the advertised $4.99 monthly price requires a qualifying new line, bill credits, and a 36-month installment agreement. Tom’s Guide’s reviewer liked the screen and controls, but found the case loose at the edges and misplaced the stylus within days.
What is the AT&T amiGO Jr. Tab 2?
It is an 8.7-inch tablet running Android 15, designed for children and paired with AT&T’s amiGO parent app. The tablet supports Wi-Fi as well as AT&T 5G and LTE, so it can connect away from Wi-Fi when activated with compatible service. The included bumper and crayon-like stylus are notable extras; parents should weigh the cellular service and app setup against a Wi-Fi-only tablet.

AT&T lists the display resolution as 1340 × 800 and the processor as a MediaTek MT8755 octa-core chip, with two cores at 2.4 GHz and six at 2.0 GHz. Other listed specifications include 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of storage, and microSD expansion up to 2 TB. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent performance measurements. AT&T’s full listing is on its amiGO Jr. Tab 2 product page.

AT&T lists a 6,000 mAh battery, but that capacity alone does not establish how long the tablet lasts in a child’s day. The cited materials do not provide standardized battery-runtime results, speed benchmarks, or long-term durability testing.

What does the hands-on review say about the screen, stylus, and case?
Tom’s Guide reviewer Amanda Caswell tested the tablet with her five-year-old. She praised the matte finish for reducing reflections and making fingerprints less noticeable than on a glossy surface. She also found that the screen had a little more drag under the stylus than slick glass, which she liked for drawing, coloring, tracing, and writing practice. Those are her observations, not controlled display or usability test results. Read her Tom’s Guide review for her account.
The same review identifies two practical drawbacks: the bumper’s edges came away from the tablet too easily in her experience, and the included stylus was lost within days. She later used an unnamed third-party crayon-style stylus purchased on Amazon; that anecdote does not identify a specific listing or establish compatibility for every replacement. AT&T says the box includes an 18 W charger, USB Type-C cable, quick-start guide, nano-SIM, and SIM tray tool, and its overview lists the bumper and stylus as included.

What can parents control, and what setup is required?
Parents manage the child’s experience through AT&T’s amiGO app on a compatible iOS or Android smartphone. AT&T says the app supports limits for screen time, apps, websites, communication settings, and location features. It is a companion-app system, not a set of controls that can be fully managed without pairing the parent’s phone and the tablet.

Pair the parent app with the tablet
- Install the amiGO app on a compatible iOS or Android phone and create or sign in to an account.
- On the tablet, follow the initial setup flow to choose the child’s age range and enable amiGO web protection and app control.
- Grant the permissions requested during setup so the selected controls can function.
- Pair the phone and tablet by scanning the displayed QR code or entering the manual pairing code in the parent app.
AT&T’s initial setup guide recommends creating a separate Gmail account for the child rather than using a parent’s personal account, reducing the chance that personal content appears on the child’s tablet. Caswell reported that setup felt easy and that she could manage permitted apps and screen-time limits; she also said Google or apps could be restricted. Treat that as one reviewer’s setup experience, while AT&T’s stated control categories define the documented feature set.

Does the tablet need an AT&T plan, and how much does it cost?
Wi-Fi is supported, but the tablet’s cellular connectivity requires compatible AT&T service if you want it to use 5G or LTE away from Wi-Fi. AT&T lists a $239.99 retail price. Its separate $4.99-per-month offer is conditional: AT&T’s product page displays it after credits over 36 months, and the launch announcement says it requires a qualifying new line, qualifying wireless plan, and installment agreement. If service is canceled, AT&T says the remaining device balance is due. Check the current terms before buying because promotional pricing can change.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesIs the amiGO Jr. Tab 2 worth it?
It is most compelling for a family that wants an included stylus and matte display, needs cellular connectivity, and is comfortable managing controls through AT&T’s amiGO app. The reviewer’s positive impressions of the screen and straightforward controls are balanced by a case that loosened at the edges and an easy-to-lose stylus. Families who do not need cellular service should compare the full cost and control setup with Wi-Fi-only alternatives before choosing it; this evidence does not support a definitive ranking against other kids’ tablets.

For a child likely to misplace accessories, plan for the possibility of replacing the stylus and verify fit carefully before buying any case or replacement accessory.
