ATLOCK v5 is not publicly available. Its developer, Akhouri Anmol Kumar, says the project is still in development and identifies ATLOCK v4 as the current public release. The v5 post outlines an ambitious security redesign, but its cryptographic features and protections should be read as developer-described plans—not independently verified behavior.

What is ATLOCK v5, and can you use it now?

ATLOCK is a Windows security project by Akhouri Anmol Kumar. In a September 28, 2026 post titled “I’m 13. I Had One Laptop. So I Built a Security Suite,” Kumar says that v5 remains under development; v4 is the public version. The project’s GitHub profile also labels v5 as planning. A separate development preview says the design may change before release.

The title’s HP 240 G9 is the laptop Kumar says he used to develop the project. It is background to the story, not a recommended configuration, a system requirement, or evidence that ATLOCK is secure. As Kumar puts it, “Age isn’t a security property.”

What does the developer say v5 is intended to change?

Kumar describes v5 as a redesign of ATLOCK’s cryptographic core and protected-file container. The post names these planned design elements:

  • FULL HD IPS DISPLAY - Enjoy vibrant, crystal-clear images with 178-degree wide-viewing angles
  • AMD RYZEN 3 30 PROCESSOR - Everyday performance you can count on; Multitask, stream, game casually, and edit photos smoothly with responsive power and vibrant HDR visuals
  • ENJOY UP TO 14 HOURS AND 15 MINUTES OF BATTERY LIFE - HP Fast Charge restores battery from 0 to 50% in approximately 45 minutes
  • AMD RADEON 610M GRAPHICS - Experience smooth entertainment; Built for streaming and multitasking, enjoy realistic visuals and efficient performance for work and play
  • STORAGE AND MEMORY - 512 GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD offers fast speed and efficient storage; and 8 GB LPDDR5 RAM memory boosts performance with higher bandwidth
  • Password-based key derivation: Argon2id.
  • Key separation: HKDF-SHA256, intended to derive separate keys for different uses.
  • File encryption: chunked AES-256-GCM, with authentication associated with the encrypted data.
  • Container protections: authenticated metadata, per-chunk authentication, key commitment, and integrity verification before plaintext is released.

These details explain the architecture Kumar says he is building. They do not establish that a public v5 implementation is available, that its protections work as described in practice, or that the design has passed independent review.

Planned authentication options

The developer also lists FIDO2/WebAuthn, Windows Hello, TOTP, and TPM-backed key wrapping as planned or in-progress areas. They are not features users can assume are supported by a current public v5 release. No specific security key or hardware compatibility is established.

The perfect combination of performance, power consumption, and value helps your device handle multitasking smoothly and reliably with four processing cores to divide up the work.

A capacity change is not a security verdict

Kumar reports that the project’s MAX_GUARDED value changes from 10 in v4 to 31 in v5, describing this as an increase in the number of protected files the program can manage. This is his 2026 comparison of the project source, not an independently checked measurement. A higher capacity may affect usability, but by itself it does not show that encryption or the overall product is more secure.

What has—and has not—been verified?

Kumar says v5 has not had the level of independent security auditing associated with established security products. The sources available for this account provide no named external audit, independent test report, or independent performance study. The cryptographic architecture and any built-in self-test claims therefore remain developer-reported rather than independently established.

The developer also describes ATLOCK as pure Python and acknowledges important limits: an attacker with enough privilege to execute code in the user’s context could inspect or modify the process, and Python’s memory handling cannot guarantee that secrets are erased. These are relevant caveats for software handling sensitive files; a list of cryptographic components does not remove risks in implementation, the operating system, or the running process.

No reproducible performance figures yet

Kumar says a proper performance benchmark remains future work. He outlines controls he wants for a fair comparison—using the same machine, Windows build, test files, file sizes, and configuration, with multiple runs and median or percentile reporting—but gives no measured results. There is no supported basis here for claims about ATLOCK v5’s speed or its performance relative to other tools.

How v4 and v5 differ in what readers can rely on

Version Availability described by the developer Architecture and features described Verification status in the cited accounts
ATLOCK v4 Named as the current public release. The v5 announcement reports a MAX_GUARDED value of 10 in v4. The cited announcement does not provide a complete v4 feature specification. The developer invites people to test v4; that invitation is not evidence of independent validation.
ATLOCK v5 In development; not publicly released. The developer describes planned Argon2id, HKDF-SHA256, chunked AES-256-GCM containers, and additional authentication options. He reports MAX_GUARDED = 31. The described design is developer-reported. The developer says independent auditing and reproducible performance benchmarking have not been completed.

What can interested readers test today?

Kumar invites readers to test v4 and report weaknesses. The areas he calls out include:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • File-guard behavior and the vault.
  • Lockdown behavior and authentication.
  • Recovery paths and handling of large files.
  • Windows-specific behavior.

Testing can uncover bugs, but an invitation to test is not a safety assurance. Anyone evaluating v4 should avoid placing irreplaceable or highly sensitive files at risk and should treat findings as useful feedback, not as a substitute for independent security review.
