ASUS ZenWiFi ET9: Wi-Fi 6E, Coverage and Test Results

The ASUS ZenWiFi ET9 brings Wi-Fi 6E, a 2.5G/1G WAN port and AiMesh support, but independent testing flags less consistent latency through a satellite.

The ASUS ZenWiFi ET9 is a tri-band Wi-Fi 6E mesh system with a 2.5G/1G WAN port, three LAN ports and a 6 GHz radio. Its headline appeal is broader band access for compatible devices; the main performance caveat is that independent testing found less consistent latency through a satellite node. ASUS advertises coverage of up to 7,800 square feet, but that is a manufacturer claim, not an independently verified range result.

What the ZenWiFi ET9 is—and what its Wi-Fi rating means

ASUS identifies the ET9 as an AXE7800 tri-band Wi-Fi 6E system. Its US listing specifies a 2.4 GHz 2×2 radio, a 5 GHz 2×2 radio and a 6 GHz 4×4 radio. AXE7800 is a combined advertised class rating; it does not mean one device will receive that total rate. Actual connection speed depends on the client device, signal conditions, network traffic and internet service. ASUS’s US product listing gives the product specifications.

The 6 GHz band is the defining difference from a Wi-Fi 6 mesh system, but only devices that support 6 GHz can use it. If most of your household’s devices lack 6 GHz support, that part of the ET9’s capability will not benefit them. The ET9 is Wi-Fi 6E, not Wi-Fi 7.

How it performed in independent testing

RTINGS tested a two-pack in dual-mesh mode. Its review, published November 15, 2024, says the test bench was updated September 11, 2026. RTINGS found wireless latency adequate for browsing, video calls and casual gaming, but reported that latency degraded noticeably when traffic went through a satellite: spikes were larger and more frequent than on most mesh systems it tested. Repeated testing and resets produced similar results. RTINGS’ ET9 review describes its setup and findings.

ASUS ZenWiFi Whole-Home Tri-band Mesh WiFi 6E System (ET9 3PK), Coverage up to 7,800 sq.ft, 7800Mbps, new 6GHz band, AiMesh, Lifetime Free Internet Security, Parental Control, EasySetup, Instant Guard
  • Ultrafast WiFi 6E Technology - Harnesses the enhanced network capacity available in the 6GHz band, providing superior WiFi performance and a more stable backhaul connection with speeds up to 7800 Mbps
  • Banish WiFi Dead Zone - Tri-band mesh WiFi system with unique antenna placement delivers strong WiFi to every corner of your home, providing WiFi coverage up to 2,850 sq.ft.
  • One-click sharable Secure VPN - Ensures the safety of your personal privacy while connecting to public WiFi by creating a secure encrypted connection among your device, the public WiFi and your ASUS router
  • One-Tap Security Scan - The subscription free network security powered by Trend MicroTM makes sure your privacy on connected devices is protected by just one tap.
  • Advanced Parental Controls - Keep your kids safe when they explore the internet with more flexible customizations, including Kid-safe Preset, Content Filter and Safe Browsing.

That result is relevant if your intended setup relies on a wireless satellite link, especially for latency-sensitive use. It is not a guarantee that every home will see the same outcome: node placement, interference and the client’s connection all matter. RTINGS also says it removed its Wi-Fi coverage tests while evaluating how to present results more helpfully, so its review does not establish a precise independent coverage area.

Coverage: what the 7,800-square-foot claim tells you

ASUS’s US listing says “Coverage up to 7,800 sq. ft.” Treat that as the manufacturer’s stated maximum, not a promise that a particular home will receive usable Wi-Fi throughout that area. Walls, floors, materials, interference, node placement and the number of units affect real-world coverage. Confirm how many nodes are included in the listing you are considering; the system is sold in different pack sizes, and coverage claims do not tell you what one unit will deliver in your layout.

Ports and setup

The ET9 has a 2.5G/1G WAN port, three LAN ports and a USB 3.2 Gen 1 port. The WAN connection gives a wired path from your modem, while the LAN ports can connect wired devices such as a desktop PC or switch. ASUS’s three-pack quick-start guide labels the WAN port “2.5G / 1G WAN port” and instructs users: “Connect your optical modem to this port with a network cable.”

  1. Connect the modem to the ET9 WAN port with a network cable, following the guide’s setup diagram.
  2. Connect a computer or other wired device to one of the LAN ports if needed.
  3. Configure the ET9 as the AiMesh router, then place compatible nodes where they can extend the network. The guide depicts ET9 units serving as router and node.

ASUS presents the ET9 as an AiMesh system, and RTINGS says ASUS AiMesh-enabled access points are compatible. That offers a route to expand an existing compatible ASUS setup, but check the model’s AiMesh support and configuration details before buying an additional unit.

ET9 versus ZenWiFi XT9

The substantiated generation difference is straightforward: the ET9 is Wi-Fi 6E, while the ZenWiFi XT9 is Wi-Fi 6. The ET9’s 6 GHz capability may matter if you own compatible clients and want that band; the generation label alone does not prove the ET9 is faster or better overall. Consider the same practical factors for either system: node count and placement, wired backhaul and port needs, satellite latency consistency, management preferences and the current price for an equivalent pack. RTINGS’ ET9-versus-XT9 comparison identifies the Wi-Fi generation distinction.

Who should consider the ET9?

  • Consider it if you want a mesh system with 6 GHz for compatible devices, need a 2.5G/1G WAN connection, or value AiMesh expansion options.
  • Look closely at your layout if you need a satellite to carry traffic wirelessly to a distant area or have latency-sensitive use there; RTINGS’ satellite test is a notable caution.
  • Compare alternatives if your devices do not support 6 GHz or if price, wired backhaul and satellite consistency matter more than Wi-Fi 6E.

Price and pack configuration are retailer-dependent and change over time. Check the live listing for the number of units included and the current price; do not assume a displayed promotional or reference price is a stable product value.
