Arma Reforger Server Requirements: CPU, RAM, Storage and Player Counts (2026)

Bohemia Interactive has not published official dedicated-server specs. Use these practical CPU, RAM, storage and network ranges to size an Arma Reforger server for your player count and mods.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

There is no verified, official Bohemia Interactive hardware specification for an Arma Reforger dedicated server. The practical figures available today are community estimates, and they vary with player count, AI, mods, scenario type and game patches. For a small private server, prioritize a modern high-clock CPU, at least 8 GB of RAM and SSD storage. A public 32–64-player server should be planned around 16 GB of RAM, stronger single-thread CPU performance, fast storage and at least 100 Mbps upload capacity.

Use the ranges below as planning targets rather than guarantees. Measure your actual server under its intended scenario before committing to a large public instance.

What is officially known about Arma Reforger server requirements?

Bohemia Interactive provides dedicated-server tools and supports hosting locally or through third-party infrastructure, but no official hardware specification list is established in the available documentation. The official BIKI server-hosting material is the appropriate reference point for installation and configuration details; its hardware guidance should be checked for changes before deployment.

That distinction matters. Numbers commonly repeated online are from undated community guides, forum posts and hosting discussions rather than a Bohemia-published benchmark. They are useful for budgeting, but they are not minimums that guarantee a particular frame rate, tick rate or player capacity. A patch, a heavily scripted mod or a scenario with many AI entities can move the requirement substantially.

Target population CPU planning target RAM planning target Storage target Upload guidance Best fit
Under 16 players Most modern CPU; prioritize high clock speed and strong single-thread performance 8 GB is a sensible starting point; startup can be around 3 GB before player and AI load At least 20 GB on an SSD About 50 Mbps for a small, stable server Private groups and short sessions
16–32 players About four strong modern cores; high per-core speed matters more than a high total core count Common estimate: about 8 GB; other guides put modded or AI-heavy sessions at 6–10 GB About 25–40 GB free on SSD storage 50–100 Mbps, depending on activity and headroom Regular community servers with moderate mods
32–64 players Six to eight modern, high-clocked cores are a safer target 16 GB is the usual planning figure; 12–16 GB is cited for 40–64 players on Campaign or modded servers 50 GB or more free space At least 100 Mbps is common guidance; more is preferable for a public server Large public or heavily scripted sessions
64+ players No dependable universal figure; use the fastest practical single-thread CPU and test the exact scenario 16 GB may work for a light configuration, but 32 GB provides substantially more operating room; one community user considers 64 GB more than enough 50 GB+ and additional headroom for mod updates, logs and backups 100 Mbps is a floor in many guides; 1 Gbps is a better target where available Large public operations requiring capacity testing

The ranges overlap because player count alone does not determine load. AI density, physics activity, scripts, map complexity and mod behavior can make a 32-player Campaign server consume more resources than a lightly populated 64-player test.

Arma Reforger server CPU requirements

Why single-thread speed matters

Community administrators consistently favor strong single-thread performance over simply adding more cores. Game-server simulation often has a main update path that benefits from high instructions-per-clock and high sustained frequency. Extra cores still help with operating-system work, networking, asset processing and auxiliary tasks, but they do not automatically compensate for a weak primary thread.

For approximately 16–32 players, guides commonly suggest around four strong modern cores. For 32–64 players, six to eight modern cores with high clock speed provide safer headroom. These are planning profiles, not official limits. A newer processor with fewer faster cores can outperform an older chip with a larger core count.

How AI and mods change the CPU budget

Bots and AI are a major source of simulation work. Increasing AI numbers, running complex behaviors or enabling scripts can raise CPU use quickly. Reducing bot counts or disabling AI-heavy features can allow a weaker machine to host the same number of human players. Mods that add persistent systems, logistics, advanced damage models or frequent scripted events can have a similar effect.

For a group of fewer than ten players, most current desktop or server CPUs should be workable if the scenario is modest. That statement does not cover an unusually dense AI mission or a large collection of poorly optimized mods.

Practical CPU selection checklist

  • Choose a recent desktop or server processor with strong per-core performance.
  • Favor sustained clock speed and adequate cooling over a large but slow core count.
  • Leave spare capacity for the operating system, voice services, monitoring and mod-management tasks.
  • Test with the highest AI count and busiest scenario your community will actually run.
  • When renting a virtual server, ask whether CPU cores are dedicated or shared; a nominal core count does not reveal the underlying single-thread performance.

How much RAM does an Arma Reforger server need?

Baseline and common player-count estimates

One community report observes roughly 3 GB of use at startup before players and AI add load. The most frequently repeated planning figures are about 8 GB for around 32 players and 16 GB for around 64 players. Another guide estimates 6–10 GB for 32 players, depending on mods and scenario, and 12–16 GB for 40–64 players on Campaign or modded servers.

Those estimates conflict because they describe different workloads. Treat 8 GB as an entry point for a modest 16–32-player server, not as a universal ceiling. For a public 32–64-player server, 16 GB is the safer baseline. If you expect extensive mods, high AI counts, long-running sessions or multiple instances on one machine, 32 GB gives useful headroom. A single Steam-community commenter described 64 GB as more than enough and 32 GB as sufficient for one large instance; that is an individual experience, not a controlled benchmark.

What consumes memory?

  • Connected players and the state that must be synchronized for them.
  • AI entities, vehicles, inventories and persistent world objects.
  • Loaded maps, Campaign data and mod assets.
  • Server logs, update caches and any additional services sharing the host.
  • Multiple server instances, which require their own working memory rather than sharing one simple pool.

How to avoid memory-related instability

  1. Start with enough physical RAM that the operating system does not need to swap during a busy session.
  2. Run the intended mod collection and scenario, then observe memory after players, AI and vehicles are active—not only immediately after startup.
  3. Leave room for mod updates and temporary extraction files.
  4. If memory usage climbs throughout a session, check logs and mod behavior before assuming that adding RAM alone will solve the problem.

Storage: SSD capacity and speed

Community guides generally expect an SSD. A frequently cited minimum is about 20 GB, while other estimates recommend 25–40 GB free for a 16–32-player server and at least 50 GB for larger deployments. Because these figures vary by mod collection and update history, plan a range rather than treating one number as an official requirement.

NVMe storage is preferred when affordable because it offers higher throughput and lower latency than a basic SATA drive. The server may not saturate an NVMe device continuously, but fast storage can reduce delays while loading maps, installing or updating mods and writing logs.

Do not allocate only the initial game footprint. Keep free space for workshop or mod downloads, patch staging, crash dumps, rotating logs and backups. A drive that is nearly full can turn an otherwise adequate server into an update or startup failure.

Network requirements: upload speed is the constraint

Bandwidth targets

Community guidance commonly places a small stable server around 50 Mbps of upload capacity and treats 100 Mbps upload as a practical minimum for a public server. Some users report that 100 Mbps up and down can support roughly 50 players, but that is an individual observation rather than a guaranteed limit. Where a public server must absorb bursts and several concurrent users, 1 Gbps is a more comfortable target.

Upload capacity is especially important when hosting at home because many residential plans provide much less upstream bandwidth than downstream. Download speed helps with updates and administration, but it does not compensate for an inadequate upstream link to players.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Network checks before opening a server

  • Confirm the advertised upload rate is the sustained rate available to the host, not only a best-case headline figure.
  • Use a wired connection and avoid sharing the link with large uploads, cloud backups or video broadcasts during events.
  • Check latency, packet loss and jitter as well as raw Mbps; an over-subscribed connection can feel poor even when its speed test looks high.
  • Verify that your router, firewall and ISP allow the ports and inbound traffic required by the server configuration.
  • Test at peak household or datacenter usage, not only at a quiet time.

Do you need a graphics card?

No dedicated GPU is normally required. A dedicated server runs headless, so CPU performance, memory capacity, storage and network quality determine practical capacity. Integrated graphics are fine if the operating system needs basic display output, but spending on a gaming GPU does not substitute for a faster CPU or more RAM.

Supported operating-system choices

Community hosting guides list Windows 10 or Windows 11, Windows Server 2019 or newer, and current Ubuntu LTS releases. Choose the platform that matches the server tools, your administration skills and your provider’s image options. Keep the operating system patched, but schedule updates so a reboot does not interrupt an event.

Windows can be convenient for administrators who prefer a graphical desktop and familiar firewall tools. Ubuntu LTS can reduce overhead and is common in rented virtual servers, but it requires comfort with service management, permissions, logs and firewall configuration. Whichever platform you use, run the server under a dedicated account with only the permissions it needs.

Self-hosting at home versus renting a server

Home hosting

Self-hosting can work well for a private group when the ISP supplies sufficient upload bandwidth and the host machine is not being used for demanding desktop tasks. You control hardware, storage and upgrade timing. The trade-offs are power use, residential outages, changing public IP addresses, router configuration and the risk that another household activity affects latency.

Rented hosting

A rented virtual or dedicated server avoids most home-network limitations and usually provides a datacenter connection, monitoring and backup options. Compare the provider’s actual CPU model or dedicated-core policy, RAM allocation, SSD type, traffic limits, geographic location and restart controls. A plan advertising many shared vCPUs may perform worse for Arma Reforger than a smaller plan with a faster, less-contended processor.

Do not select a plan solely from a provider’s player-count label. Ask what scenario, AI load and mod set that label assumes, and whether additional instances share the same CPU and memory.

A sizing and validation procedure

  1. Define the workload. Write down the maximum simultaneous players, expected AI count, Campaign or scenario type, mod list and number of server instances.
  2. Select the conservative tier. Use the table above, choosing the next larger RAM and CPU tier when the server is public, modded or AI-heavy.
  3. Install on SSD storage. Reserve space beyond the game files for mods, updates, logs and backups; NVMe is preferred.
  4. Measure the network. Verify sustained upload capacity, latency and packet loss from the actual hosting location.
  5. Load-test realistically. Reproduce a busy mission with representative AI, vehicles, scripts and mods. A startup-only test is not meaningful.
  6. Watch the limiting resource. Record CPU main-thread saturation, total memory, disk space, network use and server-side symptoms during the busiest period.
  7. Adjust one variable at a time. Reduce AI or remove a costly mod to identify a software bottleneck before buying hardware.
  8. Keep operational headroom. Avoid running permanently at the edge of CPU, RAM or upload capacity; leave room for patches, player spikes and background services.

Common failure symptoms and fixes

Stutter or delayed simulation while CPU is high

Check whether one CPU thread is saturated even though overall processor usage appears moderate. Reduce AI and scripted activity, remove the suspected heavy mod, or move to a processor with stronger single-thread performance.

Crashes, swapping or steadily rising memory use

Check RAM during a full session, not just at launch. Stop unnecessary services, reduce the mod and AI load, restart between long events if appropriate, and add physical RAM when the workload itself is legitimate and stable.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Players disconnect despite adequate CPU

Investigate upload saturation, packet loss, jitter, firewall rules and router behavior. Pause competing uploads and test from the host’s real network. A high download speed does not repair insufficient upstream capacity.

Updates fail or the server will not start

Check free SSD space, permissions and whether an update was interrupted. Keep a clean backup of configuration files and avoid filling the drive with unrotated logs or old mod versions.

Bottom line

For a small private Arma Reforger server, start with a modern high-clock CPU, 8 GB of RAM, at least 20 GB of SSD space and roughly 50 Mbps upload capacity. For a 32–64-player public or modded server, plan on six to eight fast cores, 16 GB of RAM, 50 GB or more of free SSD storage and at least 100 Mbps upload. Move to 32 GB of RAM, faster CPU hardware or 1 Gbps networking when AI, mods, multiple instances or public demand justify it. Because Bohemia Interactive has not published a verified hardware list in the available material, validate the exact scenario under load before treating any community estimate as a guarantee.
