The Therizinosaurus is a large herbivore whose value comes from versatile claw harvesting, not just raw combat. Tame one by knocking it unconscious, keeping its torpor high, and feeding Exceptional Kibble for the best documented result. After taming, assign harvesting levels toward either delicate or power gathering, then craft its saddle in a Smithy to ride it for resource runs, transport and combat support.

What to prepare before a tame
Choose a controlled location
Do not begin by firing tranquilizers at the first Therizinosaur you see. The process requires the animal to remain unconscious while you feed it, so a safe area is more important than speed. Isolate the target from nearby threats and from other creatures that could interrupt the knockout or damage it during the tame. A controlled location also gives you room to monitor torpor and move around the unconscious animal without accidentally harming it.
Bring a knockout method and reserve supplies
Use the tranquilizing method available in your progression to knock the Therizinosaur unconscious. The exact weapon, ammunition and quantity depend on your character, settings and the target’s level; the documented material does not establish one universal count. Plan for the possibility that the first attempt will take longer than expected, and keep additional tranquilizing supplies available rather than arriving with only the minimum.

Carry narcotics before you start
Torpor drains quickly enough that narcotic preparation matters. Have narcotics ready before the final knockout so you can respond immediately if the torpor bar falls. The official level-1 example uses 15 narcotics under its displayed settings, but that figure changes with level and server configuration. Treat it as a planning example, not a fixed requirement for every Therizinosaur.
Prepare the preferred food
Exceptional Kibble is the preferred food listed for Therizinosaurs. Therizinosaur Eggs can be used to make Exceptional Kibble, so egg production and kibble preparation are useful parts of a planned tame. If you do not have kibble, crops and berries can work as alternatives, but the documented table shows substantially longer taming times for those choices.

How to tame a Therizinosaurus
- Locate a suitable target. Check the creature’s level and decide whether its expected post-tame role justifies the preparation. Because server multipliers change the outcome, record your own settings if you want to reproduce the tame later.
- Clear or avoid nearby danger. Separate the target from hostile creatures and from anything that could strike it while it is unconscious. Protecting the animal also helps preserve taming effectiveness.
- Knock it out. Apply your available tranquilizing method until the Therizinosaur becomes unconscious. Avoid unnecessary damage: the objective is to raise torpor without reducing the creature’s health more than needed.
- Open its inventory while it is unconscious. Place Exceptional Kibble inside so the creature can eat it when hungry. The tame is not complete when the knockout succeeds; feeding continues during the unconscious period.
- Watch torpor continuously. Torpor can fall quickly. Add narcotics when necessary to keep the Therizinosaur unconscious, using your prepared reserve instead of waiting until the bar is nearly empty.
- Protect the unconscious creature. Stay nearby, keep threats away and avoid attacks that could kill it or reduce the quality of the tame. Taming effectiveness contributes bonuses to some post-tame stats, so unnecessary damage has a lasting cost.
- Wait for completion and verify the result. The animal must finish eating and reach the completed-tame state before you leave. Check its level and new stats, then move it to safety before assigning levels or beginning a resource run.
Food choices and the documented timing example
The official level-1 table provides a concrete reference under the settings displayed on that page:
| Food choice | Documented level-1 quantity or timing | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Exceptional Kibble | 5 kibble; about 8 minutes | Best documented result for the preferred food under the displayed settings. |
| Crops | Much longer than the kibble example; an exact value is not stated here. | Useful when kibble is unavailable, but expect a longer vulnerable period. |
| Berries | Much longer than the kibble example; an exact value is not stated here. | A fallback option that increases exposure and torpor-management work. |
The same table lists 15 narcotics for its level-1 example. None of these figures should be copied directly to a different creature level, taming multiplier or game mode. If your server uses boosted taming, the animal may eat fewer items and finish sooner; reduced rates can require more time and closer torpor supervision.
Taming effectiveness: why the method matters
Taming effectiveness is not merely a display percentage. The official documentation states that it grants bonuses to some post-tame stats. A high-quality tame therefore produces a more useful starting animal than a tame completed after avoidable damage or poor food choices.

Three practical habits protect effectiveness:
- Use Exceptional Kibble where practical instead of defaulting to slower fallback foods.
- Stop attacking once the knockout is achieved; additional damage does not improve the tame.
- Keep wild attackers away while the Therizinosaur is unconscious.
These habits do not create a universal final stat value. Creature level, random stat distribution, server rates and later breeding or imprinting all influence the result.

There is no universal Therizino build
A single “best” stat allocation cannot be stated without naming the ARK version and server settings. Harvesting yield, combat expectations, wild-level distribution and multipliers differ between environments. Use the creature’s intended job and your own resource routes as the deciding factors instead of copying a build designed for another server.
Delicate harvesting affinity
Each level-up gives a harvesting level that can be assigned to either delicate or power harvesting affinity. Delicate affinity is the choice when your work favors the resource category associated with the delicate harvesting behavior. Assign points here when your tribe’s routine depends on that type of collection and you want the Therizinosaur tuned for it.
Power harvesting affinity
Power affinity is the alternative specialization for the other harvesting behavior. Choose it when your regular routes call for power harvesting rather than delicate collection. The important decision is not a universal ranking between the two; it is matching the allocation to the materials you actually gather.
Record your assignment plan
Before spending levels, list the resources you gather most often and decide whether each run benefits from delicate or power harvesting. A general-purpose animal can split points, while a dedicated farm animal can concentrate on one affinity. Re-evaluate after a few runs rather than assuming the same distribution suits every tribe.

Therizinosaurus saddle: unlock, recipe and specifications
Riding requires the standard Therizinosaurus Saddle. The saddle is unlocked at level 69 for 40 engram points and crafted in a Smithy.
| Saddle detail | Documented value |
|---|---|
| Crafting station | Smithy |
| Unlock level | 69 |
| Engram cost | 40 engram points |
| Hide | 285 |
| Fiber | 160 |
| Wood or Fungal Wood | 120 |
| Metal Ingot or Scrap Metal Ingot | 55 |
| Saddle weight | 20 |
| Standard saddle armor | 25 |
Gather the recipe materials before the creature is ready to move. The alternatives in the recipe are edition- or map-dependent material names: use Wood or Fungal Wood, and Metal Ingot or Scrap Metal Ingot, according to what your game provides. The listed armor value belongs to the standard saddle; it should not be treated as the armor of every blueprint or quality tier.
What a Therizinosaurus is good for
Flexible resource harvesting
Harvesting is the creature’s defining practical role. Its claws support broad resource collection, allowing one mount to cover more than a narrowly specialized gatherer. That flexibility is especially useful when a tribe is moving between resource areas and does not want to maintain a separate mount for every material.
Specialized gathering routes
The delicate-versus-power level system lets you tune the animal to your own routine. A delicate-focused Therizinosaur can be reserved for routes where that affinity is valuable, while a power-focused animal can handle the alternative workload. If your tribe runs both kinds of routes, maintaining separate individuals can be more predictable than repeatedly compromising one animal’s level allocation.

Transport and general riding
Once saddled, the Therizinosaurus becomes a rideable creature for moving through the world with gathered materials. Its usefulness here is practical rather than a promise of a specific carry capacity or movement statistic, because those values are not established in the supplied documentation.

Combat support
A saddled Therizinosaur can support ordinary combat and protect a harvesting expedition. That does not establish a guaranteed performance against every boss or high-risk encounter. Combat results depend on wild and bred stats, imprinting, saddle quality, player commands and server settings.
Using one for bosses or high-risk fights
Do not treat a generic Therizinosaur recommendation as a universal boss strategy. A creature’s apparent strength can change substantially with breeding, imprinting, stat distribution, saddle blueprint quality and patch values. The available documentation does not establish a guaranteed boss stat threshold, a universal number of creatures, or a definitive boss meta.
Before committing to a high-risk fight, test the animal in lower-risk encounters and compare its actual survivability with your server’s settings. Confirm that the saddle you own is the quality you intend to rely on, and keep harvesting-specialized animals separate from combat animals if losing a resource mount would disrupt your operation.

Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Comparing a Therizinosaurus with other herbivores
The useful comparison is role-based rather than a blanket claim that one herbivore is always best. Evaluate each candidate against the same questions:
- Harvesting specialization: Does it support the delicate or power resource behavior your routes require?
- Taming burden: Can you supply the preferred food and enough narcotics for the expected unconscious period?
- Saddle access: At what level can you unlock its saddle, and what station and materials are required?
- Combat survivability: Are the animal’s actual stats, imprinting and saddle quality appropriate for the risk?
- Server context: Are your taming, harvesting and breeding multipliers comparable to the values behind any guide you are consulting?
The documented Therizinosaur information supports its harvesting affinities, Exceptional Kibble preference and saddle recipe. It does not provide numeric rankings against every other herbivore, so a comparison that assigns universal winners would overstate the evidence.

Troubleshooting common tame problems
The Therizinosaur wakes up before it eats enough
Your torpor reserve was insufficient for the creature’s level or your server settings. Prepare more narcotics, monitor the bar continuously and begin administering them before torpor reaches a critical point. The level-1 example’s 15 narcotics is not a guarantee for another tame.
The tame takes far longer than expected
Check the food type first. Exceptional Kibble is the preferred choice and has the documented approximately eight-minute level-1 example; crops and berries take much longer in the same table. Also verify that your server multipliers match the settings used by the reference.
The finished animal has disappointing stats
Review taming effectiveness, the creature’s starting level, random stat distribution and any server-specific modifiers. Avoidable damage during the knockout or unconscious period can reduce effectiveness bonuses. Do not judge the animal against a build from a different version or multiplier configuration.
The saddle cannot be crafted
Confirm that your character has reached level 69, spent the 40 engram points to unlock the saddle and is using a Smithy. Then check each recipe ingredient: 285 Hide, 160 Fiber, 120 Wood or Fungal Wood, and 55 Metal Ingot or Scrap Metal Ingot.
Harvesting output does not match your plan
Inspect which harvesting affinity received the level-up points. Delicate and power are separate choices. If points were assigned to the wrong behavior, plan the next levels around the resources you actually gather rather than assuming every point improves every material equally.
Practical preparation checklist
- Target isolated and nearby threats removed or controlled.
- Tranquilizing method and spare supplies ready.
- Narcotics prepared before the knockout.
- Exceptional Kibble available whenever practical.
- Safe position for the unconscious creature.
- Time reserved to watch torpor until the tame completes.
- Smithy access and saddle materials gathered before riding is needed.
- Harvesting affinity selected according to your regular resource routes.
- Combat plans adjusted for your version, server settings, breeding, imprinting and saddle quality.
Version and server-setting caveats
ARK values are not automatically portable between versions, maps or unofficial servers. The preference for Exceptional Kibble is documented since version 290.1, while the cited level-1 food and narcotic counts come from a particular displayed settings profile. Saddle unlock requirements and recipe values are likewise the standard figures documented by the ARK Official Community Wiki accessed in 2026. If your server changes taming speed, food drain, harvesting yield or creature progression, use the in-game result as the final authority.

Tame the Therizinosaurus as a knockout herbivore, bring Exceptional Kibble and a narcotic reserve, and protect it while unconscious to preserve taming effectiveness. Its long-term advantage is adaptable harvesting: assign level-ups to delicate or power affinity according to your routes. At level 69, unlock the standard saddle in the Smithy and use the mount for gathering, transport and general combat, while treating boss recommendations as server- and build-specific rather than universal.
