Cluster transfers only work when the destination server is publicly visible.

The exact discovery path depends on the edition. ARK: Survival Evolved uses Steam’s server browser, while ARK: Survival Ascended uses Epic Online Services (EOS). The steps below separate those cases and identify which suggestions are confirmed configuration requirements versus lower-confidence community workarounds.

Identify what is actually missing
“Not showing in the cluster list” can describe several different failures. A server may be absent from the public browser, visible in the browser but absent from an obelisk’s transfer list, visible to the owner but not to friends, or still starting after a restart. Identify the symptom before changing configuration.
- Absent from the server browser: discovery, startup, update, name, port, or NAT problem.
- Visible in the browser but absent at an obelisk: the server is not being treated as a reachable member of the same cluster, or the player-side transfer list is stale.
- Visible to you but not friends: a private address, firewall, carrier-grade NAT (CGNAT), or platform-discovery mismatch is likely.
- Server appears after a long delay: startup or update completion is the first suspect.
Do not change several settings at once. Apply one stage, restart if required, and test from a client that is not running on the server machine. That separates a local cache problem from a genuine public-reachability failure.

Use this fix order
- Wait for a complete startup and confirm the process is no longer installing or applying an update.
- Stop the server, run the hosting panel’s Steam or server-update action, and start it again.
- Set a distinctive, non-empty
SessionNameinGameUserSettings.ini. - Open and forward the required UDP ports, then test the public address from outside the host’s network.
- Account for edition-specific discovery: Steam for Survival Evolved, EOS for Survival Ascended.
- Use a direct IP connection as a diagnostic or temporary workaround.
- If only the obelisk transfer list is affected, try the dated player-side transfer workaround and then escalate to the host.
This sequence prevents a port change from masking a server that simply has not finished updating.
1. Let the server finish starting and updating
Allow the initial boot to complete
One current hosting guide estimates that a server can need five to 10 minutes to become discoverable after launch. That is a guide estimate, not an official Studio Wildcard guarantee; large maps, mods, storage speed, and an update in progress can make the delay longer. Watch the console or panel until the server reports that the world has loaded and the process is accepting connections.

Do not repeatedly force-stop a server during this phase. Interrupting world saves or an installation can leave the files in a state in which the next boot takes longer or fails.
Install the current server build
Stop the server completely, run the panel’s SteamCMD/Steam update operation (the label varies by host), wait for it to finish, and then start the server. A hosting guide reports that the game was receiving updates one to three times per day during the period it documented, so an otherwise healthy server can disappear after an update until its files are current. That frequency is not an official schedule and may change.
After updating, check that the server and client are on compatible builds. A client that has just updated can temporarily fail to find an older server, while a server that updated but was not restarted may continue advertising stale information.

Check for a process that is running but not listening
- In the host panel, confirm the status is running, not merely starting.
- In the console, look for the map/world completion message and the absence of a repeating crash or authentication error.
- Verify that the configured ports belong to the current instance; a second old process can occupy the expected port while the new process fails.
2. Give the server a unique session name
The SessionName value is the advertised server name in the Game Server Browser and, for Survival Evolved, the Steam server browser. A blank or duplicated name is a plausible discovery problem, although no official source confirms it as a universal root cause.
Find the configuration file
For a typical dedicated installation, open ShooterGame/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/GameUserSettings.ini. Managed hosts may expose the same file through a text editor in their control panel. Stop the server before editing so the panel does not overwrite your change on shutdown.
Edit the [SessionSettings] section

SessionName=NorthRidge-PvE-01Use a name that is easy to search and unlikely to collide with another server. Keep the spelling, spaces, punctuation, and capitalization consistent when searching from the client. Do not put the setting in Game.ini, and do not create a second [SessionSettings] section elsewhere in the file.
Restart and search narrowly
Save the file, start the server, wait for the world to load, and search the exact distinctive part of the name. Remove filters such as map, password, “official only,” or an old favorites list while testing. Once the server appears, add it to favorites and restore your normal filters one at a time.
3. Verify the network ports and public reachability
Port forwarding is useful only when the host has a public route to the internet. A server bound to a private LAN address can work for the owner while remaining invisible to friends and unusable for cluster transfers.

The ARK community configuration documentation lists UDP 7777 as the game port, UDP 27015 as the Steam query port, and TCP 27020 for optional RCON. If your host assigns different external ports, use the values shown in its panel and ensure the internal and external mapping is intentional.
Check every firewall layer
- Operating-system firewall: allow the server executable or the specific UDP ports on the correct network profile.
- Router/NAT: forward UDP 7777 and UDP 27015 to the server’s fixed private address. A DHCP address change can silently invalidate an otherwise correct rule.
- Provider firewall: cloud and game hosts often have a separate security-group or “allocated ports” control.
- Multiple instances: each instance needs a unique game/query-port pair unless the host supplies a proxy or port-sharing method.
Test from a different internet connection, such as a phone hotspot. A successful test from the same LAN can be misleading because some routers do not support NAT loopback.
4. Account for edition-specific discovery
ARK: Survival Evolved
Survival Evolved relies on Steam’s server browser for discovery. UDP 27015 therefore matters for the browser query, while UDP 7777 carries the actual game connection. A server can answer one and fail the other, so test both rather than assuming that an open game port proves browser visibility.
ARK: Survival Ascended
Survival Ascended uses Epic Online Services for discovery rather than the Steam browser. A current community hosting guide describes ASA discovery as requiring UDP 7777 plus peer-to-peer punch-through. The practical consequence is that a conventional port-forward can be correct while EOS still cannot establish a public path.
Carrier-grade NAT is a common blocker in this situation. If the host’s “public” address is shared with other customers, inbound forwarding may be impossible. Ask the internet provider whether the connection has a real public IPv4 address, request a public address if available, or move the server to a network that permits inbound traffic. A VPN or tunnel can change the path, but it introduces its own latency, filtering, and support considerations and should be treated as a separate network design.

Windows Server and Epic visibility reports
An official ARK community-forum thread reports missing Epic/EGS visibility on Windows Server 2016, 2019, and 2022. The mechanism and the thread’s technical resolution were not established, so treat the report as a compatibility lead rather than a confirmed diagnosis. If all port and configuration checks pass, record the Windows Server edition, build, ASA version, and EOS-related log messages before contacting the host.
5. Treat the Culture=en change as a low-confidence check
An April 2026 ASA guide claims that a missing Culture=en entry is its most common cause of a missing server and recommends adding an [Internationalization] section. Studio Wildcard has not documented this mechanism, and no independent confirmation was found, so use it only after the startup, update, name, and network checks.

Culture=enPlace the section in ShooterGame/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/GameUserSettings.ini, stop the server before editing, save a backup of the file, and restart. If the panel regenerates the file, make the change through the panel’s persistent configuration interface or repeat it after confirming which file the service actually reads. If there is no improvement, remove the change rather than accumulating undocumented settings.

Direct connection is a diagnostic: if it works, the server is reachable and the remaining problem is discovery, query, filtering, or cache state. A 2026 community guide for Survival Evolved recommends adding the server’s public IP and query port to Steam’s server favorites. The query port is used for lookup, then the game connection uses UDP 7777. That procedure is primarily documented for ASE; ASA behavior can differ because ASA uses EOS.
- Determine the server’s public IP address from the host panel or network administrator, not the private address beginning with ranges such as
192.168.x.x,10.x.x.x, or172.16.x.x–172.31.x.x. - In Steam, open View > Game Servers, select the Favorites tab, and choose Add a Server.
- Enter the public address with the query port, for example
203.0.113.25:27015, then select Find Games at This Address. - If the entry appears, launch ARK from that listing and test the connection. Do not advertise the example address; replace it with your server’s real public address.
If Steam cannot find the entry, recheck UDP 27015 and the provider firewall. If the entry is found but the game fails to connect, recheck UDP 7777, the server process, and any password or version mismatch.
7. When a clustered server is missing from an obelisk
Cluster transfers rely on the destination server being publicly visible. A server that is reachable only on a private LAN address may still run normally, but the cluster cannot present it as a transferable destination to players on the internet.
Verify cluster identity and reachability
- Confirm every cluster member uses the intended cluster directory or cluster identifier in the host’s configuration.
- Give each member its own game and query ports.
- Make sure each member can be reached from outside the host network and appears in the relevant browser or direct-connect test.
- Check that a firewall rule was not applied to one map only.
Try the older player-side workaround cautiously
A 2023 community workaround says to travel to another server in the cluster, exit to the server list without spawning, then load the affected server and download the survivor. This advice is dated and was not verified against current game versions. Use it only after confirming that the character and inventory state are backed up or otherwise recoverable, and stop if the transfer screen shows an error or an unexpected survivor state.

Keep a short test record
Write down the edition (ASE or ASA), map, server build, client build, public address, game/query ports, exact session name, and the time of each restart. Record whether the test was performed from the same LAN or an outside connection. This makes it possible to identify whether a change affected startup, discovery, or the game connection and gives a host enough information to investigate without guessing.
When to escalate to the host or network provider
Escalate after the server has completed an update, has a unique session name, and still fails an outside-network test with the required ports allowed. Include console excerpts around startup, the active configuration file path, firewall and forwarding screenshots, the edition and version, and whether direct connect succeeds.
Ask the network provider specifically whether the connection is behind CGNAT or blocks inbound UDP. Ask the game host whether its assigned address is shared, whether EOS traffic is supported for ASA, and whether another process is already using the requested ports. Avoid opening RCON (TCP 27020) merely to fix discovery; it is optional and should be restricted whenever enabled.
What is and is not officially confirmed
No Studio Wildcard support article or patch note confirming a universal fix for missing cluster-list entries was identified. The startup timing, update-frequency observation, session-name advice, EOS networking notes, Culture setting, and transfer workaround above come from community or hosting guidance with different levels of confidence. The port roles and the distinction between Steam discovery for ASE and EOS discovery for ASA are the stable configuration points to verify first.
