ARK Per-Level Stat Multipliers: How to Set Them in Game.ini

Set ARK player, tamed-dino and wild-dino stat gains by editing Game.ini under ShooterGameMode. This guide explains every key, index, value, ASA differences, restart requirements and troubleshooting steps.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

ARK per-level stat gains are controlled in Game.ini, under the ShooterGameMode section. Add a PerLevelStatsMultiplier_* line with the correct bracketed stat index, save the file, and restart the server. Do not put these lines in GameUserSettings.ini; that file is ignored for this setting.

What ARK’s per-level multipliers change

A per-level multiplier changes how much of a statistic is gained when a player or dinosaur spends a level. It does not directly set the creature’s current level, and it does not replace the normal stat system. The number after the equals sign scales the gain that the game would normally apply.

There are three target groups:

  • PerLevelStatsMultiplier_Player changes player stat gains.
  • PerLevelStatsMultiplier_DinoTamed changes gains when a tamed dinosaur levels up.
  • PerLevelStatsMultiplier_DinoWild changes the per-level values assigned to wild dinosaurs.

Each line has this form:

PerLevelStatsMultiplier_Player[0]=2

The bracketed number is the statistic index. The number after = is the multiplier. A value of 1 is the normal setting. For example, a line ending in =2 applies twice the normal per-level gain, subject to the game version and whether that statistic supports per-level scaling.

Check your ARK edition before editing

Guides for the original ARK: Survival Evolved and ARK: Survival Ascended are often mixed together. Confirm which game is running before copying a configuration example. The file name is the same, but Ascended uses different names for several statistics and has a stricter restart requirement in the available guidance.

Header spelling varies between guides. You may see either the lowercase form [/script/shootergame.shootergamemode] or mixed-case form [/Script/ShooterGame.ShooterGameMode]. The server’s accepted format is what matters. If your existing file already contains a correctly functioning header, keep its spelling and place the lines beneath it.

Find the correct Game.ini file

The configuration location depends on how the game is being hosted:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Session type Configuration folder used for Game.ini What to remember
Single-player or non-dedicated WindowsNoEditor Edit the Game.ini in this folder, then start the game again.
Dedicated server WindowsServer Edit the server’s Game.ini, stop the server first, then restart it after saving.

Server-control panels may expose an editor instead of a normal file browser, but the underlying file is still Game.ini. If a panel offers separate tabs for GameUserSettings.ini and Game.ini, choose the latter. Editing a similarly named local file will not change a dedicated server that reads a different configuration directory.

Make a backup before changing the file. Keep a copy of the original text so you can restore it if a malformed line prevents the server from loading or if a host panel rewrites the file.

Use the ShooterGameMode section and exact key syntax

Open Game.ini as plain text. Locate the ShooterGameMode header. If it is missing, add one on its own line, then put the multiplier entries below it:

PerLevelStatsMultiplier_Player[0]=2
PerLevelStatsMultiplier_DinoTamed[7]=2
PerLevelStatsMultiplier_DinoWild[4]=2

These examples set player Health, tamed-dinosaur Weight and wild-dinosaur Food to twice the normal per-level value. They are separate settings: changing one target does not automatically change the others.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Keep one setting per line. Do not add quotation marks, commas or spaces inside the key. The index belongs in square brackets, and the multiplier follows the equals sign. Decimal values are valid, so a line such as PerLevelStatsMultiplier_Player[0]=0.5 represents half the normal gain.

If the file contains more than one ShooterGameMode section, place the lines in the section read by the server and remove duplicate conflicting entries. A later or host-generated entry may override an earlier one, and the exact override behavior can vary by server setup.

Stat indices you can assign

The community ARK stat list uses the following indices. Indices 0 through 7 agree across the retrieved references; names for later entries and support for per-level gains are less certain. In ASA, indices 1, 3 and 8 have different stat names.

Index Original ARK name ASA name or difference Notes
0 Health Health Used for per-level Health gain.
1 Stamina Charge Capacity Do not assume the original label applies in ASA.
2 Torpidity Torpidity Index is consistent in the listed references.
3 Oxygen Charge Regeneration ASA uses a different name for this index.
4 Food Food Index is consistent in the listed references.
5 Water Water Index is consistent in the listed references.
6 Temperature Temperature Some references question whether this base value can be raised per level.
7 Weight Weight Index is consistent in the listed references.
8 MeleeDamageMultiplier Charge Emission Range ASA name differs; per-level support is not verified.
9 SpeedMultiplier SpeedMultiplier Some references list Speed; per-level support is not verified.
10 TemperatureFortitude (also called Fortitude) TemperatureFortitude/Fortitude Name varies by reference; per-level support is not verified.
11 CraftingSpeedMultiplier CraftingSpeedMultiplier Per-level support is not verified.

One guide states that some entries near the end of the list represent base values that cannot be increased per level. Because that behavior was not independently confirmed for current builds, test indices 6 and 8 through 11 on a disposable save before deploying them to an established world. If the line is accepted but produces no visible change, the limitation may be in the game rather than in your syntax.

Choose a multiplier value

Value Effect described by the available guidance When it is useful
1 Default per-level gain. Restore normal progression or explicitly document the baseline.
2 Twice the normal gain, if that stat supports scaling. Make each level-up substantially stronger.
0.5 Half the normal gain. Slow progression without disabling the stat entirely.
0.01 Nearly disables the gain; this is the community wiki’s suggested near-zero value. Prevent practical progression while leaving the setting present.
0 Not a safe disable value; the wiki reports that it falls back to 1.0. Do not use it when you intend zero gain.

A guide gives a Health example in which a multiplier of 2.0 changes a stated gain from 10 to 20 per level. That numerical example has not been independently verified for current builds, so treat it as an illustration of multiplication rather than a guaranteed value for your server.

Step-by-step: change player, tamed-dino or wild-dino gains

  1. Stop the game or server. For a dedicated server, shut it down cleanly before editing. This prevents the running process from overwriting your changes.
  2. Open the correct configuration folder. Use WindowsNoEditor for single-player/non-dedicated play or WindowsServer for a dedicated server.
  3. Open Game.ini as text. Do not select GameUserSettings.ini.
  4. Find or create the ShooterGameMode header. Use the casing already accepted in the file, such as [/script/shootergame.shootergamemode].
  5. Add only the targets you intend to change. For example:
[/script/shootergame.shootergamemode]
PerLevelStatsMultiplier_Player[0]=1.5
PerLevelStatsMultiplier_Player[7]=2
PerLevelStatsMultiplier_DinoTamed[0]=2
PerLevelStatsMultiplier_DinoTamed[7]=1.25
PerLevelStatsMultiplier_DinoWild[4]=0.5
  1. Save the file without changing its name or extension. Ensure the editor did not create Game.ini.txt.
  2. Start the game or server and wait for a complete load. ASA guidance specifically says the multiplier takes effect only after a restart; saving while the server is running leaves the loaded values unchanged.
  3. Test a new level-up. Apply a point to the selected stat or observe a controlled wild/tamed example. Existing stat points may not be retroactively recalculated.

Use separate lines for separate indices. For example, a player Health change and a player Weight change require two PerLevelStatsMultiplier_Player entries with indices 0 and 7; changing the value for index 0 does not affect index 7.

Examples for common goals

Faster player progression

[/script/shootergame.shootergamemode]
PerLevelStatsMultiplier_Player[0]=2
PerLevelStatsMultiplier_Player[1]=2
PerLevelStatsMultiplier_Player[7]=2

This targets player Health, Stamina in the original game (Charge Capacity in ASA) and Weight. Verify the edition before assuming the index-1 name.

Stronger tamed dinosaurs without changing players

[/script/shootergame.shootergamemode]
PerLevelStatsMultiplier_DinoTamed[0]=2
PerLevelStatsMultiplier_DinoTamed[7]=2
PerLevelStatsMultiplier_DinoTamed[8]=1.5

The first two lines target Health and Weight. The index-8 line is edition-sensitive: it is listed as Melee Damage in original ARK and Charge Emission Range in ASA, and per-level operation for this index is not confirmed.

Reduce wild-dinosaur Food gains

[/script/shootergamemode]
PerLevelStatsMultiplier_DinoWild[4]=0.5

Use the complete ShooterGameMode header shown in the other examples; the shortened header above is not valid and is included only to emphasize that the exact section name matters. The valid form is:

Tamed-dinosaur Add and Affinity variants

Community references describe additional tamed-dinosaur variants using suffixes such as _Add for an immediate boost and _Affinity for affinity-based scaling. Their availability and behavior can vary by game version. Confirm that the variant exists in your build before relying on it, and test it separately from the ordinary PerLevelStatsMultiplier_DinoTamed key.

Do not assume that adding a suffix to every target or index automatically creates a valid setting. An unrecognized key may simply have no effect, which can look like a multiplier failure.

Why a multiplier may appear not to work

The line is in GameUserSettings.ini

This is the most common file mistake for this setting. Move the line to Game.ini beneath the ShooterGameMode header, restart, and test again.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The server was not restarted

Saving the file does not necessarily reload values into a running process. Stop and start the server after every change. This restart requirement is explicitly called out for ASA and is the safest procedure for both editions.

The wrong configuration folder was edited

Single-player/non-dedicated sessions read the WindowsNoEditor configuration folder, while dedicated servers read WindowsServer. Check which process is actually hosting the world and edit that process’s file.

The header or key is misspelled

Compare the section to [/script/shootergame.shootergamemode] and compare the key character by character. The words Player, DinoTamed and DinoWild identify different targets; substituting one for another changes nothing for the group you are testing.

The index does not support per-level gains

Indices 0 through 7 are the most consistently documented. Support for indices 6 and 8 through 11 was not verified, and one guide says some of those values cannot be raised per level. Test with a clearly supported index such as Health (0) or Weight (7) to separate a syntax problem from a stat limitation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The value is zero

Do not use =0 as a disable switch. Community wiki guidance says zero falls back to the default multiplier of 1.0. Use 0.01 when you want gains to be nearly imperceptible.

The file changes or lines disappear

A Steam discussion reports lines disappearing after a server starts and a player logs in and out, but the cause was not confirmed. First verify that the file was saved, that the server is reading the expected folder, and that no management panel or other setting is rewriting the file. Keep a backup and inspect the file again after a restart. If the lines are removed repeatedly, stop the server, restore the entries, and check for duplicate configuration sections or automated configuration controls.

How to validate a change safely

  • Change one target and one index at a time so you know which line produced the result.
  • Use a test save or temporary server before applying large multipliers to a long-running world.
  • Record the edition, index, value and date in your configuration notes; ASA’s labels differ for several indices.
  • After restarting, spend a fresh level point rather than judging only from an already assigned stat.
  • Compare a supported index such as Health or Weight before testing uncertain entries.
  • Keep the pre-edit file so you can return to default behavior by removing the custom line or setting it back to 1.

Original ARK and ASA: practical differences

Decision Original ARK: Survival Evolved ARK: Survival Ascended
File Game.ini under the appropriate configuration folder. Game.ini; putting the line in GameUserSettings.ini has no effect.
Section ShooterGameMode; lowercase and mixed-case header forms appear in guides. Use the header form accepted by the running server.
Restart Restart after saving to load the values. Restart is specifically required; saving alone leaves loaded values unchanged.
Index labels 1 Stamina, 3 Oxygen, 8 Melee Damage in the cited list. 1 Charge Capacity, 3 Charge Regeneration, 8 Charge Emission Range in the cited ASA mapping.
Confidence limits Later-index support is not fully verified. Do not transfer original names blindly; test uncertain indices.

The safest portable rule is to copy the key structure, verify the edition-specific index names, and restart before evaluating the result. A configuration that works in one edition should not be assumed to have identical meaning in the other.

Recommended configuration checklist

  • Identify whether the world is original ARK or ASA.
  • Identify whether it is single-player, non-dedicated or dedicated.
  • Back up the existing configuration.
  • Edit Game.ini in WindowsNoEditor or WindowsServer, as appropriate.
  • Place entries below the ShooterGameMode header.
  • Use the correct target key: Player, DinoTamed or DinoWild.
  • Use a verified bracketed index, beginning with 0 for Health or 7 for Weight when testing.
  • Use 1 for default, a positive multiplier for increased gains, or 0.01 for an almost-disabled gain; avoid 0.
  • Save, stop and restart the server or game.
  • Confirm the result with a new level-up and inspect the file again if entries disappear.
