W3Schools certificates are verifiable credentials issued by W3Schools, but that does not mean they are universally accepted or independently accredited. W3Schools says its certificates are recognised worldwide; the practical value to an employer or school depends on that organisation. Treat one as evidence that you completed a W3Schools assessment—not as a degree, licence, or guarantee of a job.
What does “recognised” mean for a W3Schools certificate?
Recognition can mean several different things. Separating them makes the answer clearer:

- Authenticity: A W3Schools certificate can be checked through its unique verification link or QR code. W3Schools also provides a verification service: verify.w3schools.com. W3Schools Campus FAQ and W3Schools Support describe this verification method.
- Recognition claimed by the provider: W3Schools says its certificates are recognised worldwide, and its Academy says certificates are valued by schools looking to certify students. Those are W3Schools’ descriptions of its own credentials, not proof that every employer or school accepts them. Campus FAQ and W3Schools Academy.
- Acceptance by employers or institutions: The available evidence does not establish an independent employer-acceptance rate, accreditation decision, or endorsement by an industry standards body. Acceptance is up to the organisation evaluating the certificate.
So, a certificate can be genuine and verifiable without carrying the same weight everywhere.
Do employers accept W3Schools certificates, and are they worth putting on a résumé?
You can include one on a résumé or portfolio as evidence of completing a W3Schools exam. W3Schools says its certificates can be shared on résumés and social media, and that employers can check them using the certificate link or QR code. Whether a particular employer values it is a separate question; no independent acceptance percentage is established.
#1 Best Overall
The often-cited SitePoint discussion behind the original question dates to 27 July 2004. One participant said his company used W3Schools HTML, XHTML, and CSS exams internally, particularly for entry-level staff, while also doubting that the exams carried weight across the industry. He preferred a strong portfolio to a couple of certificates. That is one employer’s anecdote and one individual’s view—not a representative survey or a measure of current hiring practice. SitePoint discussion.
W3Schools itself advises learners to build a portfolio so employers can assess their skills and commitment. A certificate is most useful when it points to practical work that demonstrates what you can do. W3Schools Support.

Is W3Schools certification accredited or equivalent to a degree?
The evidence here does not establish independent accreditation or endorsement by a standards body. W3Schools describes its credential as a certificate, not as a regulated licence or academic degree. Its course guidance explicitly says its certificates are not meant to replace formal higher education. W3Schools Support.

What does the W3Schools exam involve?
W3Schools Academy describes a standard exam as 70 questions in 70 minutes, with up to three attempts. W3Schools Support also says learners can take a certification exam up to three times. These details describe W3Schools’ own assessment; they do not, by themselves, establish how an outside employer or school will value it. W3Schools Academy and W3Schools Support.
Will a W3Schools certificate get you a job?
No certificate can promise that outcome. W3Schools says it cannot guarantee that its certifications will get you a job and recommends building a portfolio. Use the certificate to document what you studied and passed; support it with projects that show how you apply those skills. W3Schools Support.

How to decide whether one is useful for you
- Check whether the employer, school, or programme you care about names W3Schools certificates as relevant or accepted.
- Consider what you need to demonstrate: an exam record, practical ability, a formal qualification, or a regulated credential.
- If you list the certificate, include its verification link and pair it with relevant projects or portfolio examples.
The original SitePoint poster mentioned a price of $59 (about £40) in 2004. That is historical context only and should not be used as a current price. SitePoint discussion.
