Yes, they can be worth considering without a Samsung phone—but basic Bluetooth listening is the main thing you can count on across platforms. Samsung says audio and calls work with other Android devices, iPhones, PCs, and consoles. The companion app and some advanced controls or ecosystem features are limited by device type, so check whether the features you want work with your exact phone before buying.
What works without a Samsung phone?
Samsung says Galaxy Buds4 Pro can connect for Bluetooth audio regardless of operating system. Its compatibility matrix lists standard audio and call streaming for Samsung Galaxy devices, other Android devices, and other Bluetooth devices, including iOS, PCs, and game consoles. That makes them usable as ordinary wireless earbuds even when the phone is not made by Samsung.

That baseline does not mean every control or feature transfers between platforms. Samsung separates compatibility into those three device categories, and its matrix shows feature-by-feature differences. For example, it does not list HD Voice/SWB for other Android or other Bluetooth devices, and touch-and-hold customization is unavailable in the other-Bluetooth category. Some features enabled in the Android Wearable app may remain saved on the earbuds, according to the matrix footnotes.
Samsung’s compatibility matrix, dated March 3, 2026, is the best place to verify a specific control or feature rather than assuming that a broad category such as “Android” gets every function.

Samsung’s current Galaxy Buds4 Pro product page says advanced settings in Galaxy Wearable require an Android smartphone running Android 12.0 or later with at least 1.5 GB of memory. Samsung states that the app is unsupported on iOS.
Which features are tied to Samsung devices?
UHQ audio
Samsung advertises UHQ audio up to 24-bit/96 kHz for specified Galaxy S, Z, and Tab device families running One UI 6.1.1 or later. The claim is limited to the compatible devices and software Samsung lists; it is not a benefit to assume for a non-Samsung phone. Check the product page against your exact device if this feature is important.

Noise-control modes and settings
Samsung lists ANC, Adaptive ANC 2.0, and Adaptive Noise Control. It says modes are managed in Galaxy settings on supported Galaxy devices or through Galaxy Wearable on non-Samsung Android. Availability and control paths therefore depend on the connected device; consult the compatibility matrix for the particular functions you expect to use.

Samsung’s launch announcement lists Auto Switch and cautions that some features may not be available on non-Samsung devices. The user guide says head gestures require a connected device with One UI 8.5 or higher, while Bixby voice activation is limited to Bixby-enabled Samsung phones. These are poor reasons to choose the Buds4 Pro if your phone cannot meet those requirements.

Samsung lists Bluetooth 6.1 and the SSC HiFi, SSC UHQ, AAC, SBC, and LC3 codecs in its launch specifications. The existence of a codec in that list does not establish that a particular non-Samsung phone will use it; compatibility and feature support vary by device.

If you have another Android phone
They may be a sensible candidate if your priority is Bluetooth audio and calls, you meet the Android Wearable app requirements, and the features you care about appear for your phone in Samsung’s compatibility matrix. If your main reason for choosing them is Samsung-specific audio or ecosystem integration, a non-Samsung phone may leave that value unused.

If you have an iPhone
They can still stream audio and calls over Bluetooth, but the Galaxy Wearable app is not supported on iOS. If app-based configuration or convenient access to advanced controls matters to you, that makes the Buds4 Pro a less straightforward choice than earbuds designed to provide their full companion-app experience on iPhone.

Price and performance still matter
Compatibility alone cannot establish whether these earbuds are good value at the price you are offered. Current retailer prices and stock, as well as independent comparative testing of sound, fit, ANC, battery life, and call quality, are not established here. Check current listings and independent reviews before treating them as a better buy than alternatives for your phone.
