The reported average cost basis for those buyer groups was above Bitcoin’s price snapshot in the article—but coin movement does not, by itself, prove that holders sold.
What Glassnode reportedly found
In an Oct. 3, 2026 report, Stocktwits said Glassnode observed the highest daily movement so far in 2026 among holders who bought during the previous rally. Stocktwits described the chart as tracking BTC moved from one entity to another each day, using a seven-day average. The finding concerns on-chain movement between entities; it does not establish that every movement was an exchange sale or reveal an individual holder’s intent.
Stocktwits also reported that holders who bought during the decline were not moving their coins. That description points to activity concentrated in earlier buyer groups, rather than a broad movement across all Bitcoin holders.
How the reported cost bases compare with the price snapshot
Stocktwits attributed these approximate average cost-basis estimates to Glassnode and cited Bitcoin at about $84,673 when its report was published. On that dated snapshot, the cited price was below both estimates.

| Buyer cohort | Reported average cost basis | Comparison with the $84,673 snapshot |
|---|---|---|
| Bought one to two years earlier | About $97,000 (Glassnode, as reported by Stocktwits, Oct. 3, 2026) | About $12,327 below the reported average cost basis |
| Bought six to 12 months earlier | About $89,000 (Glassnode, as reported by Stocktwits, Oct. 3, 2026) | About $4,327 below the reported average cost basis |
The differences are arithmetic comparisons of the rounded figures in Stocktwits’ report, not individual investors’ realized losses. A cohort average does not show the purchase price, transaction costs, holdings, or profit and loss of any particular holder. The reported snapshot is historical, not a current Bitcoin quote.
What the movement does—and does not—show
Coins changing hands can be consistent with selling, but the metric as described does not confirm a sale to a buyer on an exchange. Nor does it establish whether a transfer represents a change in ownership, a wallet reorganization, or another type of movement. Stocktwits’ accessible account does not provide the underlying dataset or a full calculation methodology, so the cohort finding should be read as secondary-source reporting of Glassnode’s chart, not as independently verified transaction intent.

Stocktwits said the chart marked two approaches to the cost-basis lines as “Rejected.” The report did not explain those labels, so they do not establish a specific market mechanism or predict what price will do next.
Keep the price forecast separate from the cohort data
Stocktwits separately quoted analyst Ted Pillows saying, “Bitcoin tapped the $87,000 zone.” It attributed to him the view that a weekly close above $87,500 was needed for a strong rally, and that failing to achieve one left a chance of a fall below $80,000. These were conditional analyst opinions in the Oct. 3 report, not Glassnode’s on-chain finding or confirmed outcomes.

Market-performance figures are a separate comparison
Stocktwits also reported Glassnode figures saying Bitcoin outperformed the S&P 500 on more than 50% of trading days in the prior week, using “win rate” to mean the share of trading days Bitcoin outperformed the index. It described Bitcoin’s June win rate as one fifth of trading days and its weakest stretch in six years. Those performance comparisons do not establish why holders moved coins.
The same Stocktwits article attributed four-year compound annual growth rates of 42% for Bitcoin and 19% for the S&P 500 to Willy Woo. The accessible report did not state calculation dates or methodology for those figures, so they are reported attribution rather than an independently checked like-for-like comparison.
