ARC Raiders is best for players who enjoy tense scavenging, dangerous machine fights, and the uncertainty of meeting other players. It supports solo runs and teams of two or three, but it is online-only—not a solo offline campaign. Its defining trade-off is that a failed run can cost the gear you carried in, even as free loadouts and objective-based skill progress soften some of the risk.
What kind of game is ARC Raiders?
ARC Raiders is an online multiplayer extraction adventure from Embark Studios. You prepare equipment in a workshop, head to the surface to scavenge and pursue objectives, then try to extract with resources you can use to trade, craft, repair, or upgrade equipment. Hostile ARC machines and other Raiders can disrupt a run before you make it back.

Embark describes the setting as a lethal future Earth shaped by a mechanized threat. The official premise also draws on a mix of Italian history and space-travel infrastructure, giving the ruined world a more specific identity than a generic battlefield. Embark’s official site introduces the game as a multiplayer extraction adventure.

The biggest pros
Machine threats give exploration its own tension
ARC machines are not merely scenery around player-versus-player combat: they are a major danger in their own right. In its near-launch review, PC Gamer argued that the machines’ threat helps make exploration and combat engaging. That is a reviewer’s assessment, but it points to an important distinction: danger can come from the environment as well as from another Raider.
#1 Best Overall
- ARC Raiders Deluxe Edition includes the base game and the following content: The Wanderer Set, including the following cosmetic items: “Valente” Outfit" “Pathfinder” Backpack,“Blanket Roll” Backpack Attachment.
- Plus: Character Cosmetic, Finger Gun Rapid Fire Emote, Cowboy Scrappy Body Type and Skin, 2 400 Raider Tokens.
The setting rewards looking around
The game’s ruined maps combine visual variety with the contrast between historical remnants and advanced infrastructure. PC Gamer praised the maps’ visual variety, while Embark’s description emphasizes a vibrant, lethal world. For players who like atmosphere and environmental exploration alongside combat, that is a meaningful part of the appeal.
You can go alone or with a small team
PlayStation’s FAQ says the game is playable as one Raider or in teams of two or three. That gives solo players and smaller friend groups a way in without requiring a full squad. Solo, however, still means playing online in a multiplayer game; it does not mean a self-contained offline mode. PlayStation’s game page and FAQ state the supported group sizes and online-only status.

Runs can produce memorable player encounters
Other Raiders make each trip less predictable. In a launch-day preview, Xbox Wire described raids ranging from quiet scavenging to repeated fights, and encounters that could be hostile, cooperative, or end in betrayal. That social uncertainty can create stories that scripted enemies cannot—but it is not a promise of dependable teamwork.
Some systems cushion a failed run
Xbox Wire’s preview describes free no-risk loadouts with a minimum kit, as well as skill points for completing objectives even when a player fails to extract. Those systems can make a setback less absolute than losing all progress. The same preview characterized the experience as more approachable than harsher extraction games, though players still have equipment at stake when they bring their own gear.

The main cons and trade-offs
Extraction pressure makes failure costly
Equipment taken into a run can be lost if you fail, and you may also lose the chance to bring home what you found. That risk is central to the loop, not an incidental penalty. If losing a carefully assembled loadout would make a session feel aggravating rather than exciting, the game’s core tension may not suit you.
Cooperation with strangers is uncertain
A Raider who sounds friendly may help, attack, or change course. The possibility of cooperation is part of the emergent appeal, but players who want reliable cooperative PvE should account for the possibility of ambush or betrayal. The game supports small teams, yet encounters with people outside your team remain unpredictable.

- Capture and Tame Dinosaurs: Discover over 100 different dinosaurs and prehistoric creatures on the island, finding ways to tame them into useful additions for your tribe's dyno herd
- Survive Above All: Hunger, thirst, basic safety, and protecting yourself from the weather are all part of the game
- Harvest, Hunt and Build: Cut down trees and turn them into a basic home, which you can quickly expand into a Jurassic estate. Hunt for meat, scavenge for plants (or start your own garden!)
- Customize Everything: An extensive crafting system invites you to mix and match materials scavenged from the island, while also modifying the colors, textures, shapes, and styles
- Explore the Island: Solve the mystery of The ARK as you explore this massive island, discovering Explorer's Notebooks (filled with clues!) throughout
There is no offline solo campaign
PlayStation lists ARC Raiders as online multiplayer-only. You can play as one Raider, but you cannot treat that option as an offline story mode. Players who need offline access should consider this a decisive limitation.
Review sentiment depends on the time window
Steam showed an all-time English-language rating of 81% positive from 200,070 reviews and a recent 30-day rating of 55% positive from 2,656 reviews on October 7, 2026. These are separate Steam user-review aggregates, not results from a representative survey; they can change over time and do not establish why recent sentiment differs. Check Steam’s live ARC Raiders listing for current figures rather than treating either snapshot as permanent.

What to check before choosing a platform
ARC Raiders is listed on Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox. The available information establishes platform availability and online-only play, but does not provide a controlled, current comparison of PC, PS5, and Xbox performance or a complete accessibility audit. Avoid choosing a platform on the assumption that one version performs best without checking current platform-specific information.
Also confirm the online-service and platform requirements for the system you plan to use. The cited platform information establishes that the game is online-only, but does not by itself settle every account, subscription, or regional requirement.
Steam review snapshot: how to read the numbers
On October 7, 2026, Steam’s all-time English review aggregate was 81% positive across 200,070 reviews, while the recent 30-day aggregate was 55% positive across 2,656 reviews. The first reflects a much longer span of player feedback; the second is a narrower, more current window. Neither rating identifies the reasons behind individual reviews, and both can move as more reviews are added.
