Weave GitOps

What Weave GitOps is
Weave GitOps extends Flux with deployment insights and tools for adopting and scaling continuous delivery across teams. Its dashboard helps users inspect application lifecycle, detect drift, check cluster health, roll back changes, and monitor operations. Both Open Source and Enterprise require a running Kubernetes cluster. The free Open Source edition includes a GitOps CLI for macOS and Linux. Enterprise can deploy applications across multiple clusters in cloud and hybrid environments using Git and Cluster API. It supports canary, blue/green, and A/B rollout strategies, with success and rollback criteria based on observability metrics from Prometheus, Datadog, or New Relic. Enterprise also includes policy-as-code checks at commit, build, deploy, and runtime stages; team workspaces; multi-tenancy; role-based access; and enterprise identity integration. Authentication includes OIDC, while Kubernetes RBAC controls dashboard and cluster permissions. Infrastructure integrations include Terraform, Crossplane, and any Cluster API provider. Enterprise offers critical 24/7 support for workloads, but requires an entitlement from Weaveworks. The Open Source installation guide notes that dashboard login sessions do not persist when scaling to multiple replicas.
Who it suits
Weave GitOps may suit teams using Flux and Kubernetes to manage continuous delivery. Enterprise features are aimed at organizations managing multiple clusters, teams, and rollout policies.
What it does well
- Free Open Source edition includes a macOS and Linux CLI.
- Dashboard can detect drift and check cluster health.
- Enterprise supports canary, blue/green, and A/B rollouts.
- Enterprise includes policy checks across four delivery stages.
- Critical 24/7 Enterprise workload support is advertised.
What to know first
- Both editions require a running Kubernetes cluster.
- Enterprise requires an entitlement from Weaveworks.
- Open Source dashboard sessions do not persist across multiple replicas.
Plans
| Plan | Billed and limits | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Weave GitOps Open Source | Requires a Kubernetes cluster and Flux; GitOps CLI supports macOS and Linux | Free |
| Weave GitOps Enterprise | Requires an entitlement from Weaveworks; runs on Kubernetes | On request |

Verdict
Weave GitOps adds lifecycle visibility and rollout controls around Flux, with additional fleet, policy, and team features in Enterprise. The Kubernetes requirement applies to both editions, and the Open Source dashboard has a session-persistence limitation when scaled to multiple replicas.
