sfizz alternatives

sfizz is a free sample-based synthesizer for SFZ instruments. It plays existing SFZ libraries and supports personal instruments, with full SFZv1 and partial SFZv2 compatibility. Its VST3i, Audio Unit and LV2 plugins, standalone JACK client, and C/C++ bindings suit workstation use as well as software integration. Hot reload helps instrument makers check edits, while on-demand streaming loads sounds as needed and reclaims memory when they are no longer in use.

A different sampler may fit better if you need broader instrument formats, more sound-shaping tools, or an active project: sfizz’s repository is archived and read-only, and SFZv2 compatibility is partial. Linux users may also encounter a file requester that depends on zenity. When comparing alternatives, check which formats they load, which plugin types and operating systems they support, and whether their editing, synthesis, recording, or loop tools fit your workflow. Some options focus on library playback; others expand into synthesis or audio production.
