NethSecurity gives small and medium-sized businesses an OpenWrt-based gateway that combines firewalling, multi-WAN, content filtering, deep packet inspection, intrusion prevention and VPN. It supports IPsec, OpenVPN and WireGuard, can balance connections and shape traffic, and uses Threat Shield to block known malicious IP addresses. The project is open source, with Linux, self-hosted and web deployment options, plus a free plan and 30-day trial. An optional controller can manage multiple installations, although its no-subscription registration limit is three community firewalls.

Alternatives may fit better when NethSecurity’s x86-64 hardware requirement, two-Ethernet-card minimum, controller limits or subscription conditions are restrictive. Nightly cloud backup requires a subscription, and professional support cannot be requested during the trial. Compare the security controls, routing features, VPN coverage, deployment platforms and management model before switching. Also check whether you need a free product, paid licensing, or quote-based access, and whether the alternative provides capabilities NethSecurity does not emphasize, such as broader package customization, network-zone design or different administration interfaces.
