Instead of Hydra
Hydra alternatives
Hydra is a free, open-source continuous integration service built for Nix projects. It checks out source, builds packages, ISO images, and tarballs, runs tests, and creates reports. Jobsets can respond to changing inputs, depend on other jobsets, and use Flake outputs through a hydraJobs attribute set. Its JSON API, self-hosted runners, and artifact or dependency cache fit Nix and NixOS package developers managing build automation around their own infrastructure.

The fit is specialized. Hydra is not needed just to use NixOS, has no hosted option, and running it is currently supported only on NixOS. Its database state requires backups, while hydra-queue-runner can leave builds queued without scheduling them. The alternatives below handle downloading rather than Nix CI. When comparing them, weigh download protocols, browser and remote access, platform coverage, scheduling, automation, and deployment choices against Hydra’s Nix-focused jobsets and testing workflow. A switch makes more sense when obtaining and organizing files matters more than building and testing packages.
