Instead of Envshed
Envshed alternatives
Envshed is built around secrets management for small engineering teams working in monorepos. Its CLI detects pnpm or npm workspaces and pulls secrets for every workspace from the repository root. Teams also get environment management, per-user overrides, expiration warnings, project duplication, an audit trail, and integrations including GitHub Actions, Docker, Node.js and Coolify. A REST API supports use from languages such as Python, Go and Rust. The free Developer plan covers up to two members and three projects; paid plans start at $5/user/month.

Keyway
Free plan APILinuxMac+3Teams wanting process-only secrets and GitHub-based access — Keyway injects secrets into process memory and ties access to GitHub repository permissions, while Envshed centers on monorepo-aware management.
- 2
Kubermatic Kubernetes Platform
Free plan APILinuxMac+3Teams managing Kubernetes clusters across varied infrastructure — KKP manages Kubernetes cluster lifecycles across cloud, on-premises and edge environments rather than focusing on application secrets like Envshed.

Phase
Free plan APILinuxMac+3Teams needing self-hosted, audited secrets management — Phase offers self-hosting, default end-to-end encryption and a SOC 2 Type 2 audit; Envshed is cloud-only and not yet certified.

secr
Free plan APIExtensionLinux+3Teams needing secret scanning and AI identity controls — secr adds credential-pattern scanning, pre-commit leak blocking and scoped AI-agent identities alongside environment-level secret controls.
- 5
Secrets Manager
Free plan APILinuxMac+3Developers seeking an open-source, self-hosted secrets system — Secrets Manager is self-hosted and supports versioning, rollback and soft deletion, while Envshed is cloud-only and monorepo-native.

SikkerKey
Free plan APILinuxMac+2Teams needing varied secret types and machine authentication — SikkerKey supports leased, certificate, canary and TTL secrets, with machines authenticating by signing requests using host-held Ed25519 keys.
- 7
dotenvx
Free plan LinuxMacSelf-hosted+1Teams keeping encrypted secrets in .env files — dotenvx encrypts secrets in .env files for runtime decryption, while Envshed manages secrets centrally and pulls them for monorepo workspaces.

The right alternative depends on what Envshed leaves out or constrains. It is cloud-only, stores data in a single US-based region, is not zero-knowledge, and is not yet SOC 2 or ISO 27001 certified. Secret rotation, dynamic secrets and Kubernetes integration are also absent. Other options emphasize process-level injection, self-hosting, broader infrastructure management, secret scanning, or additional secret types. Compare those workflows with Envshed’s monorepo support, access controls, integrations and per-user pricing, and weigh whether deployment location, certifications or a specific platform fit should decide the switch.
