Apple’s Smart Home Hub Could Arrive on October 13, 2026

Apple’s rumored smart home hub could be introduced on October 13, 2026, according to Bloomberg reporting cited by MacRumors. Apple has not confirmed the event, date, device, or product name, so October 13 is a reported expectation—not a launch announcement.

What is Apple’s rumored smart home hub?

Reports describe a compact, square touchscreen device intended to act as a visual control point for a home, combining a HomePod-like speaker with smart-home controls and other Apple services. “HomePad” is press shorthand; Apple has not confirmed that as the product’s commercial name.

The latest report describes a roughly 6-inch screen and an iMac G4-inspired tabletop design. Earlier coverage placed the screen in a 6-to-7-inch range. Both the size and design remain reported details rather than confirmed specifications. Reports describe two forms: a tabletop model with a speaker base and a wall-mounted version.

What features are reported?

The display is expected to provide access to smart-home controls, video calls, intercom communication, and music and video playback. Reported Apple apps include Calendar, Notes, and Reminders. A camera may recognize household members and personalize the information displayed.

  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

The rumored software is described as a new home operating system drawing visual elements from iOS, tvOS, and watchOS, with Siri AI at its center. Reporting also describes a persistent home screen with widgets and clock designs. Apple has not published a feature list or confirmed how any of these functions would work.

How does it fit with Apple Home today?

Apple already supports HomePod, HomePod mini, and Apple TV as home hubs. Apple says a home hub lets people control accessories when away from home, share accessory control, and run automations. Apple also says, “You must set up a home hub to add Matter accessories to the Home app.”

Thread-enabled Matter accessories need a Thread-enabled hub or a supported third-party border router. The available reports do not establish whether the rumored display will support Matter or Thread, or whether it could replace any existing home hub. Apple’s home hub support instructions explain current requirements; its accessory directory lists products identified as working with Apple Home, HomeKit, or Matter.

Should you wait for the rumored display?

Whether to wait depends on what you need now. If remote access, shared control, or automations matter today, Apple’s supported HomePod, HomePod mini, and Apple TV options are documented choices. If you specifically want a screen-based home interface, waiting may give you more information—but the rumored display has no confirmed price, compatibility details, or purchase availability.

An Apple Home-compatible smart plug is one optional way to start building a compatible setup now, but it is not a requirement for the rumored display; check the exact model and regional compatibility in Apple’s accessory directory.

What else may be announced alongside it?

A September 30 report grouped the compact hub with a new HomePod mini and Apple TV, also expected to feature Siri AI. The same report placed a full-sized HomePod update at a later date, not in the expected October group. It also described separate development projects: a privacy-focused security camera and sensor, and a higher-end hub concept with a larger display on a swiveling robotic arm. Those projects should not be confused with the compact rumored hub.
