A recent Tom’s Guide report listed the base 15-inch MacBook Air with M5 at Amazon for $1,299, describing it as a $200 reduction from a $1,499 reference price. That is the report’s price comparison—not proof the offer is still live, and not Apple’s launch price: Apple announced a $1,299 US starting price for this model on March 3, 2026. Check Amazon’s current listing, seller, configuration, stock and checkout total before buying.
What the reported $1,299 Amazon offer includes
Tom’s Guide’s early-October 2026 deal article identified the offer as the 15-inch MacBook Air with M5 in its base configuration: a 15.3-inch display, 16GB of unified memory and a 512GB SSD. Apple’s specifications confirm those capacities for the base model. The reported $1,499 “was” price is Tom’s Guide’s comparison price; the available information does not establish it as Apple’s launch MSRP.

Because laptop listings can change, compare like with like: screen size, memory, storage, color, seller and condition. A lower price on a different configuration or a third-party listing is not necessarily the same offer.

Apple announced on March 3, 2026, that the 15-inch MacBook Air with M5 would start at $1,299 in the US, with an education price of $1,199. The reported Amazon price matches that standard starting price. So the cited $200 saving is relative to the $1,499 reference price in the deal article, not a discount from Apple’s announced launch price.

What you get in the 15-inch MacBook Air
More screen area for multitasking
Apple describes the 15-inch model as the choice for more screen area, while positioning the 13-inch Air for portability. The 15.3-inch Liquid Retina display has a 2880-by-1864 resolution and a listed brightness of 500 nits. If you often keep documents, browser windows or creative tools open side by side, weigh that workspace against the greater carrying size of a 13-inch laptop.

With two Thunderbolt/USB-C ports, someone who regularly connects several wired devices may need to plan around available ports. That is a practical consideration, not a requirement to buy an accessory.

Battery estimates and configuration choices
Apple lists battery life of up to 18 hours for video streaming and up to 15 hours for wireless web use. These are Apple’s estimates under its stated test conditions, not independent results; actual battery life varies with use and configuration.
Beyond the base 16GB memory and 512GB SSD, Apple lists memory options of 24GB or 32GB and storage options of 1TB, 2TB or 4TB. If your work involves large projects, many demanding apps or substantial local files, check whether the base configuration fits your needs before treating the headline price as the relevant comparison.
