Apple Watch Series 10: Why You Should Get One Now—or Skip It

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Apple Watch Series 10 is still a capable, slim Apple Watch, but it is an older model in 2026. Buy it only if a meaningful discount makes its large always-on display, health features and fast charging worth more to you than the longer battery rating of Series 11. If their prices are close, choose Series 11; if you need multi-day endurance or serious outdoor capability, look at Ultra 3 or a Garmin instead. Apple Watch is designed for iPhone users, not Android owners.

What still makes the Series 10 appealing?

A larger screen in a thinner everyday watch

Series 10 comes in 42mm and 46mm cases, in aluminum or titanium. Its always-on wide-angle OLED display reaches up to 2,000 nits, according to Apple’s current comparison page. The practical appeal is a roomy screen in a relatively slim, light design—not just a brightness figure. That can suit smaller or medium wrists, sleep tracking and users who find the Ultra case too bulky, though comfort depends on wrist shape, case and band.

Apple lists an S10 chip and 64GB of storage. Series 10 also has a speaker that can play media, a convenience rather than a reason on its own to choose this model. See Apple’s Apple Watch comparison for the current lineup and specifications.

Health and safety features remain substantial

Series 10 includes ECG, high- and low-heart-rate alerts, irregular-rhythm notifications, cardio-fitness notifications, sleep tracking, wrist-temperature sensing, cycle tracking with retrospective ovulation estimates, Fall Detection, Crash Detection and Emergency SOS. It supports sleep-apnea notifications, but that capability is also available on Series 9 and later, Ultra 2 and later, and SE 3; it is not a Series 10 exclusive.

#1 Best Overall
Apple Watch Series 11 [GPS 46mm] Smartwatch with Jet Black Aluminum Case with Black Sport Band - M/L. Sleep Score, Fitness Tracker, Health Monitoring, Always-On Display, Water Resistant
  • A FULL-FEATURED HEALTH TRACKER—Apple Watch Series 11 gives you invaluable insights about your body, right from your wrist. Take an ECG anytime* and get alerts for a high and low heart rate or an irregular rhythm*—so you can stay closer to your heart. You can also view your overnight health tracking metrics with the Vitals app* and be notified of possible sleep apnea.*
  • KNOW YOUR SLEEP SCORE—With advanced sleep tracking, Series 11 gives you a daily sleep score. It’s an easy way to help measure and understand the quality of your sleep, so you can make it more restorative.
  • GET HYPERTENSION NOTIFICATIONS—Did you know that Series 11 can spot signs of chronic high blood pressure? By analyzing how your blood vessels respond to beats of the heart, it can notify you of possible hypertension.*
  • SAFETY FEATURES—A smartwatch that puts your safety first. Series 11 can detect a hard fall or severe car crash, automatically help connect you with emergency services, and notify your emergency contacts.* Check In can automatically notify a loved one when you’ve arrived at your destination.
  • A POWERFUL FITNESS TRACKER—With advanced metrics and motivating features like Pacer, Heart Rate Zones, training load, and Workout Buddy powered by Apple Intelligence from your nearby iPhone*—Series 11 is made to help everyone stay active, from runners and hikers to strength-training enthusiasts.

These tools have limits. Sleep-apnea notifications are screening prompts, not a diagnosis; ECG and heart-rate features do not replace clinical care; and wrist temperature is not a general-purpose thermometer. Availability can vary by region, model, software and regulatory approval. Apple’s comparison page says Blood Oxygen measurements are viewed on the paired iPhone and are for wellness, not medical use; check the exact device and regional availability before relying on that feature.

Useful for water activities, within limits

Series 10 has a depth gauge and water-temperature sensor. Apple rates it water resistant to 50 meters under ISO 22810:2010 and suitable for snorkeling to 6 meters. It is not a diving watch for scuba, and water resistance can diminish over time. Do not treat it as waterproof or use it for high-speed water sports. Ultra models are rated for 100 meters and recreational scuba diving to 40 meters with a compatible third-party app.

The biggest trade-off is battery life

Apple rates Series 10 for up to 18 hours of normal use and up to 36 hours in Low Power Mode under its defined test. Those are controlled-test ratings, not promised runtimes. GPS workouts, cellular use, music, poor reception, always-on display use and battery age can all reduce time between charges. Independent reviews identified battery longevity as the watch’s main weakness even while finding fast charging helpful. See DC Rainmaker’s in-depth review and Wareable’s review.

Fast charging can make daily use easier, but it does not turn Series 10 into a multi-day watch. If you track sleep, you will need a dependable charging window outside sleep; a long GPS workout or LTE use can make charging urgent sooner. A worn battery in a used watch compounds the issue. If frequent charging is a deal-breaker, do not let a sale price override that limitation.

How Series 10 compares with the current Apple Watch lineup

Apple’s comparison page lists Series 11, SE 3 and Ultra 3 as current models, with Series 10 among older models. The table focuses on the buying differences established in Apple’s current comparison rather than assuming a fixed street price; prices vary by seller and availability.

Model Best fit Advantage over Series 10 Why choose Series 10 instead
Series 11 Most buyers seeking a standard Apple Watch Current mainstream model; Apple rates it for up to 24 hours of all-day use, versus up to 18 hours for Series 10 Only if Series 10 is substantially cheaper or its size/material option better suits you
SE 3 Lower-cost essentials Lower entry cost, with basic smartwatch, fitness and safety functions Series 10 adds an always-on display, ECG and a richer sensor set
Ultra 3 Outdoor use, endurance, diving and battery priority Multi-day battery positioning, rugged case, 100-meter water resistance, deeper-water capability and satellite-related features Series 10 is slimmer, lighter and more discreet for everyday wear
Series 10 Discount buyers wanting a slim premium Apple Watch Large display, fast charging and advanced health features in a lighter form It is an older generation with a shorter battery rating than Series 11

Series 11 is the safer choice when the price gap is small, especially if overnight tracking and longer days matter. There is no universal discount threshold: compare actual prices for the same size, material and connectivity, then decide whether the savings compensate for the older generation and shorter battery rating. At a deep clearance or trustworthy refurbished price, Series 10 can make sense; near Series 11 pricing, it is difficult to justify.

Series 10 or SE 3?

Choose SE 3 if you mainly want notifications, activity and sleep tracking, and safety features at a lower cost. Pay more for Series 10 when the always-on display, ECG, temperature sensing, depth and water-temperature sensors, or premium case options matter to you. Sleep-apnea notifications alone are not a reason to pay for Series 10 because SE 3 also supports them.

Series 10 or Ultra 3?

Choose Ultra 3 when long battery intervals, ruggedness, outdoor navigation, satellite-related capabilities or deeper-water use justify a larger, heavier watch and higher price. Series 10 better suits ordinary smartwatch use, office wear and users who value a thinner profile. For endurance training and extended outdoor GPS use, Garmin is also worth considering: it is generally stronger for training metrics, navigation and battery longevity, while Apple Watch is stronger as an iPhone-connected general-purpose smartwatch with messaging, apps, Apple Pay and voice interaction.

Who should buy Series 10 now?

  • An iPhone owner upgrading from Series 4–8 who wants a current-feeling display and newer health sensors at a real discount.
  • A buyer who finds Ultra too large or heavy and prefers a slim watch for everyday wear or sleep tracking.
  • Someone who wants ECG, temperature sensing and an always-on display but does not need multi-day battery life.
  • A buyer choosing a new-old-stock or refurbished unit only after checking battery condition, warranty and return terms.
  • A user who values fast charging and can build charging into a daily routine.

Who should skip Series 10?

  • Anyone finding it priced close to Series 11; the newer model’s longer Apple-rated battery life makes it the safer buy.
  • People who prioritize several days away from a charger, long GPS sessions, hiking, diving or endurance events; consider Ultra 3 or Garmin instead.
  • Owners of a recent Series 9 or Ultra 2 seeking a transformational upgrade. Much of the health and software experience is already present on supported recent models.
  • Android users expecting normal setup and integration. Apple Watch is built around iPhone pairing and use.
  • Buyers seeking a diagnostic medical device rather than wellness and screening features.
  • Anyone considering a used unit with poor battery health, damage, uncertain cellular status or no meaningful return protection.

Buying checklist: avoid a bad deal

  1. Compare like for like. Check the actual Series 10 and Series 11 prices for the same case size, material and GPS or cellular configuration. If savings are small, favor Series 11.
  2. Pick the size and case you will wear. Series 10 is available in 42mm and 46mm, aluminum or titanium. Try the fit if possible; comfort is personal.
  3. Choose connectivity deliberately. GPS is usually enough when your iPhone is nearby. Cellular requires a compatible carrier, eligible plan and activation, and adds recurring service cost; availability and eligibility vary. Confirm details with Apple’s cellular information.
  4. For refurbished or used watches, verify the unit. Ask for battery-health disclosure, confirm Activation Lock is removed and that it pairs and updates, and check GPS versus GPS + Cellular, carrier compatibility, screen and case condition, included charging cable, warranty and return window. Refurbished does not automatically mean as good as new.
  5. Check regional features and software compatibility. Health features can depend on country, device, software and regulatory approval. Verify current iPhone, iOS and watchOS requirements and feature availability with Apple before purchase.
  6. Account for the charging routine. Consider your workouts, LTE use, sleep tracking and the battery condition of a pre-owned unit—not just the new-watch rating.
