Apple Pay launched in India on 30 September 2026, initially supporting eligible Axis Bank-issued Visa and Mastercard credit cards. You can add a supported card to Apple Wallet on iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch and use it for contactless purchases, in apps and on websites that accept Apple Pay. Mac support is expected later; Apple has not announced when additional Indian banks will join.
What Apple Pay’s India launch includes
Apple announced the launch on 30 September 2026. At launch, Apple Pay is available on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, with Mac support coming soon. Apple describes it as a way to pay in stores, apps and on the web without repeatedly entering card details. In stores, the merchant needs to accept NFC contactless payments or otherwise show Apple Pay/contactless acceptance; availability is not universal at every checkout. Apple’s launch announcement

Apple’s announcement says the service is available in more than 90 countries and regions and works with more than 11,000 bank and network partners worldwide. Those are global figures, not counts of supported Indian banks or local merchants.
Which Axis Bank cards can be added?
Apple and Axis Bank list eligible Axis Bank-issued Visa and Mastercard credit cards as supported. This does not mean every Axis card works: Apple’s issuer directory warns that support can vary by card type. The announcement does not establish support for Axis debit cards or cards issued by other Indian banks. Check the current Apple Pay participating banks and card issuers directory for your specific card. Axis Bank’s Apple Pay information

How to add an eligible Axis card to Apple Wallet
- Confirm that your card is an eligible Axis Bank Visa or Mastercard credit card. If its type is not listed or enrollment is declined, check the Apple issuer directory or contact Axis Bank.
- On your iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch, open the Wallet app and tap the plus button (+).
- Follow the onscreen instructions to add the card, then complete the verification steps requested by Axis Bank.
- Alternatively, start in the Axis Mobile Banking app and use its option to add an eligible card to Apple Wallet.
Successful enrollment depends on the specific card and bank verification. For troubleshooting help, Axis Bank provides Apple Pay support information.
Where you can pay
In stores
At checkout, look for the Apple Pay logo or contactless payment symbol. Apple Pay works where the payment terminal accepts NFC contactless payments and the merchant accepts the card. Availability depends on the merchant and terminal; having Apple Pay set up does not make every contactless checkout eligible.
In apps and on websites
Choose Apple Pay when it appears as a payment option, then authenticate as prompted by your device. Apple says this avoids repeatedly typing card details during checkout. A merchant or website must offer Apple Pay for it to be used.
Security and payment details
Apple says your card number is not shared with merchants and is not stored on Apple’s servers. Mastercard says its tokenisation technology uses a unique, cryptographically secured token for each Apple Pay transaction rather than exposing card details to the merchant. These statements describe the protections cited by Apple and Mastercard; they do not guarantee that every merchant accepts Apple Pay or that no payment can ever be disputed or fraudulent. Will more Indian banks be supported?
Apple says it will update its India issuer directory as additional banks are added, but it has published neither a timetable nor the name of a next issuer. Until the directory changes, do not assume that a card from another Indian bank—or an unsupported Axis card type—can be enrolled. Check Apple’s current issuer directory.
