Which phone has the larger screen?
The POCO’s 6.83-inch display is 0.53 inches larger diagonally than the iPhone 17’s 6.3-inch display. That extra screen area may suit readers who prefer a large viewing surface, while the iPhone’s smaller dimensions are more appealing if compact handling matters. Both are specified for refresh rates up to 120Hz; that figure alone does not establish which screen looks better.
Which phone is smaller and lighter?
At 177g, the iPhone 17 is 41g lighter than the 218g POCO X8 Pro Max. Its 6.3-inch screen also makes it the smaller option. The POCO’s larger body accommodates its bigger display and stated 8500mAh typical battery, but buyers should consider the added size and weight in everyday use.

Battery capacity and charging: what the numbers do and do not tell you
Xiaomi specifies an 8500mAh typical battery and 100W HyperCharge for the POCO. Apple’s cited iPhone specification page does not give a comparable mAh figure, so the capacity numbers cannot be compared directly. A larger stated capacity does not, by itself, prove longer real-world battery life; no same-method independent endurance test for these two phones is established here.
Xiaomi says the POCO can charge from 1% to 50% in 24 minutes under its stated laboratory setup: the in-box 100W charger, “Top speed” enabled, screen off and an approximately 25°C test room. Actual charging time depends on conditions, and buyers should confirm whether the appropriate adapter is included in their local package.

Camera hardware is not a picture-quality verdict
Apple describes the iPhone 17 as having a 48MP Dual Fusion camera system and a Center Stage front camera. Xiaomi lists a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilization and an 8MP ultrawide camera for the POCO. Megapixel counts and camera specifications do not establish which phone takes better photos or video; a fair verdict would require independent testing under comparable conditions.

Water resistance claims use different test descriptions
Apple lists the iPhone 17 as IP68 under IEC 60529 and specifies up to 6m for 30 minutes. Xiaomi describes the POCO’s IP68 testing as static freshwater up to 2m for 30 minutes and cautions that resistance is limited to tested conditions. These are manufacturer specifications with different stated depths, not an identical-condition comparison or a promise that either device is waterproof in every situation.

What is the price difference?
A current, like-for-like price difference cannot be stated without a country, storage tier, seller and date. The cited sources do not establish current equivalent local prices. Check offers in your market for the same storage capacity where possible, and compare warranty and support terms as well as the headline price.
For historical context only, TechRadar reported a POCO X8 Pro Max starting price of $469 / £469 in an April 3, 2026 review. The Associated Press reported an iPhone 17 US launch starting price of about $800 in September 2025. These are secondary reports from different dates and sales contexts; subtracting them would not produce a valid current price gap. Performance claims need matched testing
Apple identifies the iPhone 17’s processor as A19; Xiaomi lists a Dimensity 9500s in the POCO. Xiaomi also reports an AnTuTu score of 3,085,998 for the POCO, from its internal lab using AnTuTu V11.0.5 at about 25°C, and notes that results can vary with testing conditions. Without a matching test of the iPhone using the same benchmark version and method, that score does not show which phone performs better. It also does not establish sustained performance during long gaming sessions.

How to choose between them
- Choose around size first: the iPhone is lighter and has the smaller screen; the POCO is the larger device.
- Compare local, matched offers: check the country, storage capacity, seller, warranty and whether a charging adapter is included.
- Consider charging needs: Xiaomi specifies 100W HyperCharge for the POCO, but its 24-minute-to-50% result applies only to the stated lab conditions.
- Pick the ecosystem you want: operating-system preference, apps and connected devices are practical decision factors; the specifications alone do not settle them.
- Check regional details: confirm carrier-band compatibility, SIM or eSIM configuration and local support for the exact model.
- Seek comparable independent reviews if camera quality, battery endurance, gaming or sustained speed is the deciding factor.
