What Google Maps Timeline records
Timeline is a personal history of visits and routes associated with a signed-in device. Google says it can use GPS, Wi-Fi, mobile-network signals, and device sensors to estimate location, including in the background when Google apps are not being used. Timeline is off by default and requires opt-in. Google Maps Timeline help Google location data and privacy

Each eligible device saves its own Timeline. That means a history may differ between devices: enabling the feature on one device does not automatically create a record for another. The Maps app is the current way to access Timeline; Google’s current help describes it as unavailable in desktop Maps. How to review or change Timeline
Open Google Maps and go to your profile picture or initial, then Your timeline. Choose a date to review recorded visits and routes. Google’s screen labels and settings may vary as interface changes roll out.

What Apple Find My can locate
Find My is for locating Apple devices and supported items, and for sharing locations with people. Depending on the product, it can show a map location, play a sound, mark a device as lost, send notifications, or erase a device. Not every feature applies to every device or item, and Apple says availability can vary by country or region. Apple Find My support Apple Find My features

Why prior setup and offline status matter
Neither service can reliably supply information it was never configured to collect. Timeline must be enabled before the visit or route you want to recall. Find My must be configured on the Apple device before it is lost, and an item tracker must already be registered to the item.
For supported Apple products, enabling the Find My network allows offline location reports through nearby Apple devices. That does not guarantee a live position: the map may show an earlier, last-known location or no location if the device has not reported recently. A sound request may remain pending until the device reconnects. Set up Find My Locate a lost Apple device

Privacy and data controls
Google says Timeline data is stored on the device, with an optional encrypted backup to Google’s servers for moving to another device. A backup may take time to reflect edits. Timeline can be turned off, edited, or deleted, but those actions do not necessarily remove location-related information held under other Google Account settings, such as Web & App Activity or Search Services History. Google also says visits to certain designated particularly personal places are deleted from Timeline. That rule is specific to Timeline; it does not necessarily delete searches, interactions, or records controlled by other account settings.
