For an iPhone app, Apple’s submission minimum is one screenshot in the 6.9-inch display class, or one in the 6.5-inch class if you do not provide a 6.9-inch screenshot. An iPad app needs one screenshot in the 13-inch class. Other accepted sizes are optional; you do not need to upload a separate screenshot for every display size. Apple’s live specification, checked October 4, 2026, still lists many older sizes as accepted.
What App Store Connect requires
Apple’s September 11, 2024 release note says submissions require one iPhone screenshot in the 6.5- or 6.9-inch class and one iPad screenshot in the 13-inch class. The current guidance makes 6.9 inches the iPhone class to use when supplied, with 6.5 inches as the alternative when no 6.9-inch screenshot is provided. The minimum is one screenshot in the relevant class, not a full set for every device size.

For an iPad app, provide a 13-inch-class screenshot. For an app that supports both iPhone and iPad, meet the requirement for each applicable device family. Apple’s release notes document the submission change; its screenshot specifications list accepted dimensions and device mappings.

| 3.5-inch | 640 × 920 or 640 × 960 | Legacy accepted class; Apple specifies status-bar and orientation variants. |
The 6.9-inch class includes multiple device generations. Because Apple’s model-to-size mappings can change as devices are added, use the linked official specification to confirm the mapping for your target device and the exact dimensions you export. The class does not correspond to one universal pixel size.
Accepted iPad screenshot dimensions
The required iPad class is 13-inch. Apple lists portrait sizes of 2064 × 2752 and 2048 × 2732 pixels; landscape uses the reversed dimensions. Other accepted iPad classes include 12.9-inch, 11-inch, 10.5-inch and 9.7-inch. Their exact dimensions vary by model, so there is no single generic “iPad screenshot size.”

Apple says missing images can be scaled from a larger class: 13-inch for 12.9- and 11-inch groups, 12.9-inch for 10.5-inch, and 10.5-inch for 9.7-inch. For example, the 11-inch group includes portrait dimensions 1488 × 2266, 1668 × 2420, 1668 × 2388 and 1640 × 2360 pixels, each with a corresponding landscape size. Consult Apple’s full table for model groupings and orientations.
What is gone—and what is not
What changed is the requirement to upload screenshots for every supported display size. Since September 11, 2024, Apple’s stated minimum has been one screenshot in the specified iPhone class and one in the 13-inch iPad class for iPad submissions. Optional screenshots for other accepted sizes can still be uploaded.

The older size entries themselves have not all disappeared. Apple’s current reference continues to list iPhone classes from 3.5 through 6.5 inches and several smaller iPad classes. An old device class can remain accepted without being required for a new submission. Check the current Apple specification rather than treating “legacy” as synonymous with “rejected.”
File rules and upload workflow
- Submit between one and ten screenshots in JPEG, JPG or PNG format.
- Images must not contain an alpha channel or transparency.
- If the interface is the same across sizes and localizations, Apple says you can provide the highest required resolution and have it scaled down automatically. Use Media Manager to add custom device-size or localization images when needed.
Upload screenshots in the platform section of the app record in App Store Connect. Apple says that after an app is approved, you can update screenshots only by creating a new version. See Apple’s upload instructions for the workflow and scaling guidance.

iPhone Duo: dimensions are listed, uploads are pending
Apple’s current specification lists iPhone Duo outer-display dimensions of 1398 × 2034 and 2034 × 1398 pixels, and inner-display dimensions of 2007 × 2853 and 2853 × 2007 pixels. However, Apple says App Store Connect upload support will arrive later in 2026. As of October 4, 2026, treat these as published specifications with upload support pending—not as dimensions you can already submit.

Quick submission checklist
- Identify the platform families your app supports: iPhone, iPad, or both.
- For iPhone, prepare one screenshot in the 6.9-inch class; use a 6.5-inch-class screenshot if you are not providing 6.9-inch artwork.
- For iPad, prepare one screenshot in the 13-inch class.
- Match the exact pixel dimensions and orientation to Apple’s current device-class table; do not assume one size covers every model.
- Export JPEG, JPG or PNG files without transparency, and keep the submission to one through ten screenshots.
- Add optional sizes or localization-specific screenshots only when you need custom presentation beyond Apple’s scaling guidance.
