What Warhammer Tone Pro contains
Warhammer describes Tone Pro as 30 colours, with five tones for each colour, for 150 paints in total. Its 18 September 2026 preview labels tone 1 the darkest and tone 5 the lightest, presenting the sequence as a way to find shade-to-highlight progressions. The Sunday Preview says the paints can be used for basecoating, shading, highlighting, glazing, and drybrushing. These are the manufacturer’s descriptions of the range, not independent test results or proof that every paint will behave identically across different models, surfaces, or techniques.
The two mediums
- Shading Medium: Warhammer says it reduces pigment density without changing the paint’s flow or finish properties.
- Blending Medium: Warhammer says it extends drying time to make blending easier.
The previews do not provide comparative test data for either medium.

What Di Chello’s earlier painting comments establish
A March 2017 White Dwarf feature on Di Chello’s Gaunt Summoner identifies that model as his second Slayer Sword win, at Warhammer Fest 2016. In that historical context, he described his approach as “Layers, lots of layers!” and explained that he began with a white undercoat and bright base colours, then darkened areas gradually with thin paint layers. The March 2017 White Dwarf feature is evidence of his earlier method, not a statement about Tone Pro or his current practice.

Warhammer’s launch previews said the paints could be tried from 26 September 2026 in Warhammer and independent hobby stores; the October preview described thousands of participating stores. These are dated launch statements, not confirmation that a particular shop currently has the range in stock. The 5 October feature said preorder would begin the following Saturday, but the retrieved information does not establish a current price or stock status.
