If the phone is locked into a store presentation or blocks account and settings changes, that is likely retail demo management; switching off Developer options will not remove it.
First, identify which kind of demo mode is active

These are separate features. System UI demo mode changes the appearance of the status bar; Developer options is a settings menu; retail demo mode is a managed device configuration that can restrict ordinary use.

Turn off the screenshot status-bar presentation
- Open Settings > Developer options. The location and availability of Developer options vary by Android version and manufacturer.
- Find Show Demo Mode and switch it off.
- Check the status bar again. Notifications and system status should return to their normal, system-controlled display.
Android Developers describes this option as hiding notifications and showing a preset status bar. If you cannot find it, the device may not expose the feature under that name or in that location. Do not assume that a locked retail setup is the same setting. See Android Developers: Configure on-device developer options.
Advanced option: exit System UI demo mode with ADB
For a developer who already has ADB available, AOSP documents this command to return the system bars to system-driven state:

adb shell am broadcast -a com.android.systemui.demo -e command exitThis is a technical alternative, not a required step for the normal settings route. Android’s demo-mode ADB commands are verified only on Nexus and Pixel devices, so compatibility is not guaranteed on other devices. AOSP documents the exit action at Demo Mode for the Android System UI.
Hide the Developer options menu
If the phone works normally and you simply want to remove the advanced settings menu from view, switch off Developer options itself. This does not remove retail device management.

- Open Settings > Developer options. On some Android devices, the path may be Settings > System > Advanced > Developer options.
- Tap the main switch at the top of the Developer options screen to turn the menu off.
On Galaxy phones, Samsung’s U.S. instructions likewise say to open Settings > Developer options and tap the switch at the top. Menu names and placement can differ across devices and software versions. When a phone is stuck in retail demo mode
A retail demo phone may be configured as a device owner under device policy. That management can block adding accounts or changing settings, and a demo presentation may keep returning. The Developer options switch—and the System UI status-bar control—are not general ways to remove that management.

- If you bought the phone used or new and it remains restricted, contact the seller or retailer and ask them to resolve the device-management enrollment.
- If the phone belongs to a store, contact the store’s device manager or authorized staff rather than trying to bypass its controls.
- Avoid a factory reset as a first troubleshooting step. It is destructive, may not resolve an active management configuration, and AOSP’s published exit procedure is directed to retail employees.
AOSP says retail employees should ensure the demo device is not enrolled under device management and then factory reset it from the boot loader. Its documentation does not provide a universal consumer settings path for removing retail management, and manufacturers may implement the experience differently. AOSP also notes that retail demo mode may no longer be available for provisioning after personal consumer setup is complete. See Android Open Source Project: Retail demo mode.
