If an Android crypto alert bot works while open but stops reporting events when the phone sleeps, the alert rule may be fine: Android can defer background work or restrict connectivity, and the exchange can separately throttle or disconnect the client. Trace each stage—from incoming market data to the displayed notification—before changing the bot’s logic.
Find the stage where the alert disappears
Add timestamped logs at each boundary: source data received, event parsed, rule evaluated, notification requested, and notification shown. Compare those records for a foreground run and a background run. This is a diagnostic method, not a guarantee that every Android device or exchange exposes the same signals.

- No source data received: investigate connectivity, background execution, and exchange limits or disconnects.
- Data arrives but no rule evaluation is logged: inspect parsing and event handling.
- The rule fires but no notification appears: investigate the notification request and device notification settings.
Android’s background-task restrictions and Doze and App Standby behavior can make background execution and network access differ from a foreground session. If the app works only while its activity is visible, check the task design and device power state before rewriting parsing or alert conditions.
Check Android connectivity and scheduling
Observe the network while the process is active
Use Android’s ConnectivityManager network callbacks to observe network availability and capabilities relevant to the task. Do not rely on manifest connectivity broadcasts as a way to start background work; Android’s background-work guidance explains the restrictions that apply.

Use WorkManager for deferred work, not a real-time clock
WorkManager suits persistent work that can be deferred and retried, such as a periodic refresh or reconciliation after a missed connection. Its periodic work API has a 15-minute minimum interval, and that is not a promise of execution exactly every 15 minutes. Battery optimization and other system conditions can delay a run. For broader task choices, see Android’s background data-transfer options.
Do not assume a foreground service means an always-on socket
A foreground service is intended for work noticeable to the user and must show a notification. It is subject to start restrictions and requirements that vary by Android release. Android 12 and later restrict starting foreground services from the background; Android 14 and later require the applicable service type and permissions. On Android 15, an app targeting API 35 or higher is subject to a cumulative six-hour-per-24-hour limit for its dataSync foreground services; that allowance is shared across the app’s dataSync services and resets when the user brings the app to the foreground. Check Android’s foreground-service overview, background-start restrictions, version changes, and service timeouts against your OS version and target SDK.

Choose where detection should run
The right design depends on how fresh an alert must be, whether the phone can stay active, and what recovery behavior is acceptable. The table describes trade-offs, not a guarantee of delivery time.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches| Design | Best fit | Main constraint |
|---|---|---|
| REST polling from the phone | Occasional checks when the app is active or delay is acceptable | Android may defer background work, while the endpoint may impose request limits. See Doze guidance and the exchange’s API documentation. |
| WebSocket from the phone | A live session while the user keeps the app active | Plan for disconnects, reconnection, and background lifecycle changes; do not assume Android will keep a process or socket alive indefinitely. |
| WorkManager periodic check | Eventual refresh or recovery and reconciliation | Scheduling is inexact, with a 15-minute minimum periodic interval. See the API reference. |
| Server-side monitoring plus push | Detection should continue while the phone sleeps | Requires a backend or provider and push setup. Exchange detection and push delivery have separate latency; neither is a deterministic end-to-end timing guarantee. |
Moving monitoring off-device is an architectural response to Android’s background limits, not a promise that an alert will arrive instantly. A backend can maintain exchange connections and send a mobile push, but the chosen exchange connection, push setup, and device behavior still need validation.

Separate exchange API failures from Android failures
Exchange policies are not universal across centralized exchanges, decentralized exchanges, chains, or providers. Binance is one documented CEX example: its documentation describes endpoint- and IP-dependent request limits, HTTP 429 handling, and WebSocket connection and message constraints. Its limits and retry behavior vary by product and endpoint and can change, so consult the applicable live documentation rather than copying a single numeric quota into a general bot design: Spot REST API information, general API information, developer introduction, and Spot WebSocket API documentation.
For the exchange-side trace, record HTTP status codes and error payloads, rate-limit headers or fields when supplied, WebSocket close and reconnect events, and retry timing. A 429 or repeated disconnect points to a different failure layer than a device that stops receiving data only after entering an idle state. Follow the specific endpoint’s documented retry guidance rather than retrying aggressively.

Use push priority for the user-visible outcome
If a sleeping phone must receive an alert, a common architecture is for a server to detect the exchange event and send a Firebase Cloud Messaging notification. This moves detection away from the phone’s idle lifecycle, but does not guarantee end-to-end latency: exchange detection and push delivery are distinct stages.
