You can replace Chrome on Android, but no source here verifies an open-source browser that runs every Chrome extension. Firefox for Android and its Fennec F-Droid distribution use Mozilla’s add-on ecosystem, not the Chrome Web Store. Quetta advertises Chrome extension support, but its sources do not establish that it is open source or that every extension works on Android. Kiwi historically offered Chrome-style extensions, but a competing browser’s comparison says it has not been maintained since January 2025. The practical choice depends on the extensions you actually need and whether their mobile controls and behavior work for you.
Why replacing Chrome does not automatically bring its extensions
Chrome for Android does not offer the desktop Chrome extension installation flow. Choosing another Android browser is therefore not simply a matter of switching browsers while keeping the same extension store and compatibility.

“Supports extensions” can mean that a browser can install some extensions from a named store. It does not prove that a particular extension will work fully on a phone. Desktop-focused interfaces may be awkward on a small screen; permissions, background behavior, and the way a site lays out its mobile pages can also affect whether an extension is useful.

Firefox for Android: Mozilla add-ons
Firefox for Android has its own add-on ecosystem. Mozilla documents Firefox for Android features and add-ons, but this is not Chrome Web Store compatibility. See Mozilla’s Firefox for Android guidance for the documented mobile features.

Fennec F-Droid: a Firefox-derived distribution
Fennec F-Droid is listed by F-Droid as a Firefox-based Android app in its free and open-source app repository. That makes it a route to consider if an open-source-oriented browser and Mozilla’s ecosystem are priorities. The listing alone does not establish the app’s exact current add-on catalog or release cadence; check the current version and supported add-ons in the distribution you plan to use. Kiwi: historical Chrome-extension support, with a maintenance caveat
The Kiwi Next GitHub repository describes support for most Chrome desktop extensions and identifies its license as the same as Chromium’s. That is a project claim, not proof that any specific extension works well on a current Android device. Quetta’s comparison page says Kiwi was archived and no longer maintained after January 2025. Because that status statement comes from a competing browser vendor, treat it as attributed reporting and check the live repository before relying on an archived build. The reported maintenance status makes Kiwi a poor long-term default for routine browsing that involves accounts, payments, or passwords. Kiwi Next repository · Quetta’s Kiwi comparison

Quetta: Chromium-based and advertises Chrome extension support
Quetta’s FAQ describes it as a Chromium browser for Android and iOS with native Chrome extension support. Its Google Play listing advertises support for Chrome Web Store and Edge Add-ons extensions. These are product claims, not independent tests of every extension. The cited sources do not establish that Quetta is open source, either. Check the exact extension’s behavior and permissions before making the browser your default. Quetta FAQ · Quetta on Google Play
How to choose based on what matters to you
- Open-source preference: Check the browser’s source, license, distribution route, and update cadence. Open-source status does not imply Chrome Web Store compatibility.
- A specific Chrome extension: Confirm that the candidate browser offers its installation source, then test that exact extension’s permissions, controls, and background behavior. A browser-level support claim is not a guarantee of compatibility.
- Long-term daily use: Look for recent maintenance and security updates. Do not treat an archived browser as a current default without verifying its status and accepting the risks.
- Convenience: Consider whether the browser’s documented built-in features meet your needs without an extension. Do not assume that a feature exists unless the browser documents it.
Test your must-have extensions before switching
Make a short list of extensions you cannot replace, then test each on the candidate browser using the sites and tasks you rely on. This is more informative than a general claim that a browser “supports extensions.”

- Install each essential extension from the browser’s supported source, if available.
- Review the permission prompts and decide whether they fit the extension’s purpose.
- Try the extension on the specific sites where you need it. Check sign-in flows, pop-ups, and whether its controls are usable on a phone screen.
- Check behavior that matters when the extension is not visibly open, such as background tasks or notifications, if those are part of your workflow.
- Before changing your default browser, back up bookmarks and confirm that your password manager works as expected in the candidate browser.
What the available evidence does not establish
No named extension or Android device was specified in the available product sources, so they cannot establish whether a particular extension will work on your phone. Quetta’s support claims do not prove universal compatibility or open-source status; Firefox and Fennec use Mozilla’s add-on ecosystem rather than Chrome’s; and Kiwi’s reported maintenance status requires care before choosing it for ongoing daily use. Independent coverage also discusses Android browser extension support, but it does not turn a general compatibility claim into a guarantee for an individual extension.
