Before changing settings or buying an adapter, confirm support for your phone and vehicle, then follow Google’s Bluetooth-first setup sequence.
What you need for wireless Android Auto
Google lists Android 11 or newer, a compatible phone, an active data plan, 5 GHz Wi-Fi support, and a compatible car or stereo as requirements for wireless projection. Vehicle compatibility varies by model, so check with the automaker or stereo manufacturer. Google’s wireless Android Auto requirements provide the phone-side guidance.

A USB port by itself is not enough: Google notes that Android Auto does not work in every car with USB. Confirm that the vehicle or receiver supports Android Auto and that the feature is enabled in its infotainment settings. Google’s compatibility information and setup guidance are useful starting points.

When a wireless adapter makes sense
A wireless adapter is for a vehicle with factory-fitted wired Android Auto that does not provide built-in wireless Android Auto. It uses the car’s existing wired Android Auto capability to enable a wireless connection; it does not add Android Auto support to a car that lacks it. Compatibility depends on the vehicle’s USB and Android Auto implementation.
Motorola’s MA1 is one example, and its support page describes it for vehicles with factory-fitted wired Android Auto. That makes it an illustration of the adapter category, not evidence that a particular $30 adapter is available at that price or will resolve an unstable connection. See Motorola MA1 support for its manufacturer-specific compatibility guidance.
Bottom line
Confirm the phone and car meet wireless Android Auto requirements, complete Bluetooth pairing with Wi-Fi and Location Services enabled, and troubleshoot the infotainment system before considering an adapter. Buy an adapter only if the car already has compatible wired Android Auto and you want wireless convenience; no adapter or settings change can be promised to eliminate glitches.
