To check, open the Android Auto listing in Google Play and install the update if the button is available. If you see Open instead, check again later.
How to update Android Auto to version 17.7
- On your Android phone, open the Google Play Store.
- Search for Android Auto and open the app listing published by Google LLC: Android Auto on Google Play.
- If the listing shows Update, tap it and wait for the installation to finish.
- If it shows Open or no update option, Google Play is not currently offering an update to your account. Check the listing again later.
Why don’t I see Android Auto 17.7 in the Play Store?
A release report is not a promise that every account receives the update at the same time. Google Play’s listing identifies Android Auto as an app published by Google LLC and showed an update date of September 9, 2026; that date does not establish which version is available to each user. A report published by SlashGear on October 2, 2026, described 17.7 as the newest stable version at the end of September while noting that Play Store availability can take time. So if the listing has no Update button, waiting and checking again is the straightforward stable-update route. A small Reddit discussion dated October 2 included users reporting different installed versions, including 17.7 and 17.8; those individual reports illustrate variation, but do not establish what is available to every user. Should you join the Android Auto beta?
Google offers a beta program for people who want early access to pre-release versions. Joining the beta is optional and is different from waiting for the ordinary stable update. Google’s instructions are to enroll in the Android Auto beta program and then update the beta version through Google Play: Google’s Android Auto beta test instructions. Choose this route only if you are comfortable using beta software; it is not a way to guarantee that stable version 17.7 will appear immediately.

What’s known about Android Auto 17.7
The available sources support describing 17.7 as a reported stable release, not promising that it is already installable for everyone. They do not provide an official, version-specific changelog, so there is no substantiated basis here to attribute a particular feature, bug fix, or performance improvement to 17.7.
Manual APK installation has been mentioned in secondary coverage, but the sources do not establish an official Google procedure for sideloading this particular build. For a routine update, use the Google Play listing rather than treating sideloading as an endorsed or necessary step.
