Google released Android 17 QPR3 Beta 1 on October 2, 2026, with two build identifiers: DP11.260918.005 and DP11.260918.006. Its release notes list 20 categories of issues addressed, spanning Pixel stability, Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity, camera behavior, audio, battery drain, and the interface. These are fixes Google lists for a beta build—not independent confirmation that every affected device or occurrence is resolved.
What’s new in Android 17 QPR3 Beta 1?
This is a Quarterly Platform Release beta. Google says QPRs arrive quarterly through updates delivered to AOSP and Pixel devices as part of Feature Drops. The release notes list a security patch level of 2026-08-05 and Google Play services version 26.32.34. Google also says QPR beta builds do not include app-impacting API changes and provides images for app testing. Read Google’s Android 17 QPR3 Beta 1 release notes.

The breadth of the fix list is notable, but the notes do not provide independent test results or measured performance improvements. A listed fix should be read as Google’s stated change, not a guarantee that a problem is eliminated for every user.

Stability, apps, and system behavior

- UI problems when returning to the home screen from apps, excessive spacing between icons in the app menu, and missing previews in recent apps.
Connectivity, telephony, and media
- Wi-Fi failing to reconnect after a background wake when hardware PNO scans fail or are unsupported.
- Cellular service loss and com.android.phone crash loops associated with unexpected SIM-slot indices, as well as eSIM profiles reverting to off.

- Audio output selection problems when apps have no active media controls, and LHDC v5 Bluetooth playback stopping when a second connected device disconnects.

Consider installing if you need to test an app against the QPR build or are comfortable using pre-release software and dealing with possible defects. If your Pixel is essential for daily work, calls, or travel, waiting for a stable release avoids taking on beta-specific risk. Google warns that beta software can contain errors or defects that affect normal device operation. Back up your data before installing and review Google’s current program instructions.

It depends on when you opt out. Google’s QPR3 Beta 1 announcement describes a no-wipe path for participants who want public stable Android 17 QPR2: opt out without installing QPR3 Beta 1, then wait for the stable update. Once QPR3 Beta 1 or a later update is installed, opting out triggers the usual downgrade OTA, which wipes locally saved data. Google’s program page also warns that opting out ordinarily installs a stable version and erases local data. Check the current program instructions before changing enrollment, and keep a backup.
